Why does it bother you so much??? I've seen you talk about this before and still don't get it???
Because the idea of reiatsu as like THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN A BATTLE, makes A LOT of Bleach’s combat literally meaningless and pointless AND IT’S SHITTY WRITING.
Since reiatsu is supposed to be ~the most important thing~ and can apparently just fucking…BRUSH OFF PEOPLE’S ABILITIES…nO MATTER WHAT THAT ABILITY IS…Then that makes giving each zanpakuto a unique ability POINTLESS and zanpakuto having abilities AT ALL pointless. Why? Because again, Kubo has set up reiatsu as being the most important thing in a fight and has basically been like “yeah um…remember these abilities I gave these people…um…they don’t matter if they’re fighting someone with more reiatsu u-uwu”.
And frankly, that comes across as REALLY LAZY AND SHITTY to me. It feels like something Kubo made up on the spot to get out of actually you know…putting thought and effort into a fight…NOT TO FUCKING MENTION, it calls so many character’s abilities into question and opens so many holes in the story??? Like let’s take Aizen’s ability for example. Conceivably, under this rule, if Aizen met someone with more reiatsu than him, they could just…break out of it…because reiatsu is the most important thing u-uwu. Remember how Urahara’s bankai deals with molecular construction? Mmmmm, that apparently wouldn’t fucking matter if he was fighting with someone who has more reiatsu than him!!!!!
Like I honestly like some concepts about reiatsu like that it can physically affect someone and it can be used as a way to rank people, but, BUT it shouldn’t let people disregard other people’s abilities OR BE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN A FIGHT.
Hell, we don’t even need to bring abilities into this for this to seem reALLY DUMB. Remember how a lot of zanpakuto’s take on different forms??? And turn into different weapons that would have a lot of advantages and disadvantages because of the shape they took? WELL, if reiatsu is the mOST IMPORTANT THING, the reach and shape of your weapon apparently doesn’t really matter, does it?
Hell, if reiatsu is as important as Kubo claims it is, it sort of makes kido, hakuda, and zanjutsu pointless too. Why? Because it doesn’t matter how skilled you are in any of those areas if every battle is a BATTLE OF REIATSU. Sorry Kenpachi. Sorry Unohana. Sorry Soi Fon. All those years you put into developing and perfecting your skills? They were apparently aLL POINTLESS because reiatsu is the most important thing. :’(
Oh and not to mention, it makes the very idea of different characters having different specialties, pOINTLESS because if reiatsu is SO IMPORTANT and can just…IGNORE PEOPLE’S ABILITIES, then it doesn’t matter what their strengths and weaknesses are! It only matters if they’re fighting an opponent as strong as they are!!! uvu
Oh and remember those stats Kubo gave the captains??? Guess what!!! That entire stat system is MEANINGLESS because as Kubo told us, reiatsu is the deciding FACTOR IN A FIGHT AND IT’S APPARENTLY SOOOOOOO IMPORTANT.
Like just the implications of reiatsu being apparently fucking OMNI-IMPORTANT opens up sO MANY HOLES AND LEADS TO MORE QUESTIONS THAN IT ANSWERS???
