Funny you mention these men, I’ve learned quite a lot from them, like with:

I’m afraid teaching and writing eats up most of my time—But I love reading whatever novels we could get from overseas, considering I know all of our Japanese classics quite well already. Now that I’m qualified for Dutch, I‘d been focusing on English more..as a “just in case” plan, you could say. Most of it has been put on ice since I’ve been researching how to educate Kōsaku best.

Hijikata, he’s a farmer by the books even if his looks betray. Never saw that type in the upper class, so I’m careful with him and my words.
