Happening right now, July 2020
as a serbian, i feel like i need to say something about it. if you see something about these protests being about a complete lockdown which should have been this weekend, it’s not entirely true.
first of all, the lockdown and measures in march were decided by the president himself, against the law.
we were not allowed to come outside our homes from 5am to 5pm and we had to stay at home the whole weekend. i get that those were the measures, maybe a little to extreme if you ask me, but alright. but than, on May 7th, we were completely free. we could go out whenever we wanted, public transport and and stores didn’t even require wearing a mask. clubs and caffes were open. we even had a football game on which attended over a 20 000+ people.
all of it because Serbia 2020 elections
we were told that everything’s alright but the majority of us knew that everything was in absolute chaos. i myself know people who are very close to me, who had all the simptoms and were not allowed to get tested because then they would have to cancel the elections. they could’ve died. everyone who has a friend or family member working at the hospital knew that there is no place for the patients, everyone was doing overtime (and no one was paid for it) and everything was just a mess.
for results of elections to be valid, at least 50% of people has to vote. only 30% voted and thay still claimed Aleksandar Vučić for our president, even though it’s against the law and they didn’t even bother to hide that fact.
then, after the elections, the real number of infected and dead popped, although they did not admit it, we were lied the whole time and they, again, didn’t even bother to hide it.
now, were trying to fight his dictatorship and we get beaten like dogs.
protests were supposed to be again today at seven, but the president changed his mind about this weekends lockdown, again, all by himself.
if there are serbs reading this, wake up. same goes for our neighbors croats and north macedonians, i heard that you’re in similar situation.
we need to fight this
