Hakota stopped for a second before walking. “You’re staying at Air Temple island!?” He replied, shocked at what he just heard. Taking a second to calm down, they began to retrace their steps and get back to where they were. “So how did you end up staying there?”

She almost laughed at his reaction. “Oh, right. Well, Master Tenzin’s brother, Commander Bumi, has a daughter named Sansara. I lived with them in the Fire Nation for a couple years, because- It’s kind of a long, complicated story…” she shrugged.

“Hmm…That’s pretty interesting. But then again almost everything about you is interesting, going from the Water Tribe to the other nations and somehow ending up here. I shouldn’t be surprised by anything anymore.” He replied, a growing grin on his face. “If you don’t mind, I wouldn’t mind listened to that story. That is if you’re willing to share.” not wanting to force her into anything.

A smile played at the corners of her mouth. "Well, if you insist..." she paused, taking a breath. "Okay. I'm just gonna start from the beginning. Well, I was adopted when I was really little. My real parents left me in a restaurant, in the Earth Kingdom, but I don't remember that because I was just a baby. The owners of the restaurant took me in as their own, and raised me in Laogai City. I didn't even know I was a waterbender til I was about 12. My father thought I would be an Earthbender. But that's a different story." They kept walking.

"Anyway, when I was 15, I met Sansara while ice skating. She crashed into me. Literally." she paused, smiling at the memory. "I went with her and her father after that. We went back to the Fire Nation, where I lived for a few years, with her and her brother, Metta..." she trailed off. "Um. Yeah, then I realized that if I was going to be a healer, I had to have a master, so I traveled all the way to the North Pole, where I met Master Kazuk. I was up there for almost 2 years. Then, about three months ago, I got a message from Sansara's brother about how Sansara had run off to who knows where to try to earn some money for the family. Her mother was ill, and Sansara thought that it would help. But it only caused her mother anxiety. So I came back. I thought she would be here, in Republic City, since her father is in the area. And I was right." she smirked. 

"Hmm, did I leave anything out? Oh. I found my real father. In a Fire Nation prison... Yep. That's it." She took a big breath. They had stopped walking halfway through her life story. She looked at Hakota.

And of course we could, I’m always open to grabbing something to eat.” Hakota smiled, never expecting to make a friend on the way home. “So I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turned about to walk off. “Wait, you’re not that good with directions, so I should help you get back home.”

Yan Jin laughed, “That’d be nice. I’m staying on Air Temple Island right now. As long as I can make my way out of this area…” she looks around, “I should be fine.” she turns and starts walking with him, back in the direction they came from.

By looking at the gym and back at her, he knew she wouldn’t think it was good at all. Most of the gyms for probending weren’t all that spectacular, but there were a few that were pretty fancy. Her response was something he hadn’t expected, and he grinned softly. “Haha, you’re welcome. The gyms around here, are always open to anyone using them.” Turning to her, he put his hands in his jacket pockets. “Will you be able to remember where this is? Cause I can always show you tomorrow, it wouldn’t a bother.”

“Sure! I’m not that great at directions usually. Maybe we could go get a bite to eat too? If you want.” Yan Jin had a sudden desire to become friends with Hakota. She barely knew anyone in Republic City, and he seemed really nice.

“That’s cool. I guess the best place to learn healing is the Water Tribe. The techniques used in Republic City are much different than in the nations.” He replied, looking at the street ahead, before glancing at her. “It’s actually pretty easy if you know how to bend lightning. But it’s more hard work than actual fun.” putting his hands in his pockets. Before they knew it, they were coming up on the gym. “And here’s the first gym.” He said, stopping in front of a building.

The gym didn’t look like anything special from the outside, but she knew that inside there was a great training facility. “Awesome! Thanks for taking me here, I probably wouldn’t have been able to find it on my own.” Now that she’d found the gym, she could start training. Sansara had a wild idea of creating a probending team, and Yan Jin was to be the waterbender if they could accomplish such a thing with an airbender like Sansara on the team.

Day 4 character development

4.) How vain is your character? Do they find themselves attractive? 

Yan Jin doesn't think very much of herself or how she looks. If anything, she doesn't like her appearance very much. She doesn't have the best smile, or hair, or even eyes. In fact, when she was growing up, she always wished that she had green eyes, like most of her friends.
