Overexertive Assistance Anxiety Disorder (OAAD) is a medically unrecognized disorder wherein the the subject experiences extreme, overwhelming anxiety to assist others, primarily those in any level of danger — even when such danger is low risk, easily managable, or the other being is fully capable of handling said situation on their own.
Overwhelming, impairing, or otherwise distressing abxieties over the wellbeing of others, especially love ones.
These anxieties are not rooted in beliefs that others are less competant or capable than the subject. OAAD anxieties manifest due to intense levels of compassion and care towards others, to the point of the subject risking their own health and wellbeing for others, even when unnecessary.
Percieved and actual threats against loved ones are hard to differentiate for those with OAAD, and so most with the disorder choose to intervene in all instances, as not to risk the other being's safety due to negligence.
Most OAAD cases are due to trauma related to accidents or emergencies they couldn't control, especially in scenarios wherein a loved one was hurt; or are related to losing their autonomony in a major way at one point.
This disorder is often comorbid with: other anxiety disorders, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, schizospec disorders, and OCD.
Treatment can include but is not limited to: CBT, anxiety medication (primarily medications that alleviate physical symptoms); OCD therapies, strong support networks, counselling, and in some cases antidepressants or antipsychotics.
