I grew up with very limited hearing. My mom used to snap in my ears and I would have no idea she was talking to me.

I learned how to speak by lip reading and feeling my mom's throat.

Sometimes I regret having not learned ASL and joining the Deaf community. But I couldn't have known better, I was 7. I wouldn't have had a choice in whether or not I got ear surgery anyway.

It feels like I walk a thin line between the worlds.

If I hadn't gotten surgery, I would have less ear infections, better communication, understamd ASL or BSL, and a community.

But because I did, i can hear, play clarinet, and don't have to deal with the ableism deaf folk deal with regularly.

│ Reverie entrapment disorder is what i consider rare mental condition due to the intensity of the disorder and the symptoms.

│ possible common misdiagnoses : Maladaptive daydreaming (MD) , ADHD , ASD , GAD , OCD , Dissociative disorders .

│terms : IS - imaginary self . IC - Imaginary characters.

OVERVIEW

│ RED is which the brain gradually begins to treat daydreaming as a necessary activity / a resting state . Unlike normal daydreaming , people with RED cannot simply snap out of it , then continuing on with their day . the persons nervous system actively / constantly encourages the person to immerse themselves in their thoughts .

│common age of development : 8 - 12 , childhood to preteen .

│ physical symptoms :

— Eye strain.

— headaches.

— Poor posture.

— Decreased awareness of hunger , thirst , pain , or extremely high or low temperature.

— Sleep disruption.

— Reduced awareness of overall surroundings.

— Significantly reduced blinking.

— Slow responses to speech.

— intense self isolation.

│ emotional symptoms :

— intense false ( fictional ) grief.

(Examples include : A person suffering from RED may have an IC die , leading to real life diagnosed depression. )

— narrative guilt

( examples include : guilt over ‘causing’ death of imaginary characters , feeling as if they abandoned those characters if not daydreamed in a while.)

— emotional echos / lingering

(examples Include : crying over imaginary character death, irritable after fictional conflict , anxiety attacks induced by fictional danger )

— identify blending

(Examples include : may identify as their IS , or as an IC . People with this often have trouble pointing out what they like, dislike, hobby, and path in life.)

EPISODES

people with RED may experience 4 different types of episodes. 1 being the least concerning , and 4 the most .

Episode 1 — mirco

The average duration of mirco episodes is between 30 seconds to 5 minutes . Often triggered by brief stimulation , such as music or a familiar phrase . This person is aware of surroundings .

Episode 2 — Partial immersion

The average duration of Partial Immersion is often between 10 - 45 minutes . A person in this episode is semi - aware , but may need to be snapped back to reality , or have questions repeated . They may whisper dialogue , pacing , small facial expressions matching the daydreams , irritated if interrupted .

Episode 3 — Deep immersion

The average duration of deep immersion lasts 1 - 4 hours . This person may sit completely motionless , or extremely restless , forgetting to eat / drink , losing track of time , complete unawareness of non-urgent environmental changes .

Episode 4 — Complete narrative entrapment

The average duration of Complete Narrative Entrapment is 4 - 10 hours . This is seen in only severe instances . These people miss appointments , ignore bodily needs , remain in one location for hours , extreme emotional reaction to imagined events .

Developmental factors

RED develops in childhood to preteens . Those with RED in their childhood of experience chronic loneliness , frequent social rejection , Long term physical illnesses , family instability and abuse .

It’s suspected RED is a trauma based disorder .

Hello!

Uhm, this post may be triggering for those who struggle with mentions of dissociation, bad parents, or fakeclaiming.

I would like some advice if there is any, but mostly I just need to get my feelings off my chest before I explode and be mean to our friend.

One of my friends said they think they have alters and promptly made a pluralkit profile. I was fine with this, though suspicious because it seems that though they have 3 alters including themself they seem to switch for no reason and very seamlessly and quickly. While I know this doesnt necessarily make someone a faker, I am a bit sus of it.

They then go on to get mad about their psychiatrist not taking them seriously on their claims and their mom thinking its just the phone and attention seeking. "She said that I was only upset because she djdnt aah what I wanted to hear".

If they are plural then theur parents kind of suck, and its gonna suck for me bc it ruins me wanting to date them (idk why plz dont ask) and also means that their awesome mom is terrible.

if they arent plural then that means they were wrong or faking and im like rlly scared because ive heard stories of ppl using alters to dismiss their bad actions and at least 3 of my friends despise them/are exes of them and arent on good terms.

I dearly hope its just faking and misatributing symptoms and lasts not long because if its not this is gonna suck for me.

This sucks for me because they are the one person I feel like ive made a connection with to the point of true friendship. Theyre the person i can go to with my deepest secrets.

While talking about it my head got rlly fuzzy and I think I dissociated a bit and idk why. Im gonna go distract myself after I make thus post because im feeling it again.
