Art Exhibition 2: Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition  In this exhibition, many astonishing great pieces of art existed, it was as if I walked among people who were too creative too exist. I looked at many paintings, I also noticed that one of the people I knew even had an art piece in there.  Anyways, the first art piece by Marian Haji I was astonished by was an art piece related to Bahrain’s lifestyle back in the days, when ‘Lulu’ was one of the things that shaped up this country, the amount of detail I saw in this painting was way too much that it looked like it was real, in fact when I really began staring into it I felt I was with the person who was in the art piece.  Another art piece I analyzed, was one artist by the name of Sayed Hasan who created truly magnificent art that was mixed with a lot of contrast and details, it was a painting of different humans in a very artistic manner with the use of many principles of art at one time, if someone asked me and example of principles of art, I would show him this instantly. 

Some of the great artists there were Dana Jumaan, Areej Rajab, Hussain Al Shehabi, Dwa Al Khalifa, and Sara Al Aradi

Art Exhibition (Part of Project 1)  Al Riwaq Art Exhibition and Space. Brilliant art gallery filled with all sorts of art, with a lot of space to spend a great time on each painting focusing on the main attributes that created that piece of art. 

One of the paintings was calligraphic writing mixed with human emotions that I really spend time analyzing, the great detail spent by the artist to make sure the writing blends with the emotions of the human made me mesmerized and proud to be there.  Two people who had a great impact on this art space are Noor Al Noaimi and Siobhan Fallon.  A couple of other great artists also had a major part on the day I arrived at the gallery, these artists were also creating some sort of calligraphic art although this time they were also focusing on water art to make the art look much better.  In the end, I spend a lot of time there and took many pictures and videos that I will post in the second post that had to do with the immense details implemented on these marvelous and beautiful art pieces by the hands of great artists.

Interview Principles of Design (Project 1)

1.What are different career paths in art & design that are modern and required in today’s world?

In today’s world Product, animation, environmental, and games design are all required in many key businesses around the world. They were required before,but today a business cannot run at all without good design behind it. So most of these careers are in need of a designer. 

2.What is the difference between form and shape when it comes to Art & Design? 

When it comes to Art & Design, shape is an enclosed area or something flat while form is not something flat, it can be three dimensional. To simplify, shape is the outer form, and form is the detailed appearance. 

3.What type of principles are used in cartoon design? And how is that important? 

The type of principles used in cartoon are movement to create exaggerated actions, 

They also use balance in the value of the characters, colors, and texture to represent the important characters for example. 

4.In what way is art similar or different to design? 

They are similar because of the principles and elements used between the both of them, they both use shape, color, contrast, and more. They are different because when it comes to art, art is supposed to bring out the emotions of the piece. While design can be used to solve many problems in the visually communicated world.

1.When it comes to design, people often do not use the main principles, how could that affect them?

Well, basically Yaseen, your question is what many people in UOB might ask themselves at the start, although once they get to design things, and they start to criticize their own work, they will realize that they are implementing a lot of principles...

Without principle, the viewer cannot understand or interpret what the designer is trying to show because principles order you work. At the start, Dr.Adel started discussing and bringing the main point in the intro about the history of Gestalt -Three psychologists came up with different theories about how a human perceives a picture -Rudolf Arnheim is who came up with “Art and Visual Perception: in 1945 which made Universities use it today to understand the theories -The principles of Gestalt are: >Similiarity: Which is when things look identical >Continuation: Which is when your eye shifts from an area to another because of an element used in the design >Closure: Which is when you close things by your own perception of how they should look >Proximity: Which is when elements in a design are next to each other forming a single shape >Figure/Ground: Which is when you make a perception of what is the background of the original image because of the shadows creating it. So there are actually two designs in one design you could say >Symmetry & Order: Which is when the elements in the design create a balanced design that is following a single system. The reasons all these principles are important are because with them you will be able to create a good design that follows the order in different ways. When working on these principles you will realize there are levels to implementing them. You can implement them simply, and you can also implement them by focusing and finding true creativeness like Escher in 1938 when he created a marvelous design for figures and ground. These types of artists are the ones that create unique well-designed work that lasts for centuries. In conclusion, the gestalt principles are all important in their own unique way and that is very important to know because when you focus on a unique principle and you implement it properly, your level of creativeness will exceed and the design will be much more than just a good design, and that is exactly what we are looking for.  All designs are designed by me. 👆🏽

Project 1 (Coverage Over Yonis Atteya ‘Design & Branding) 

At the start,Yonis Attiya introduced himself. He is the founder of limefish, a visual designer, specialist in video production, adobe photoshop, and Premiere Pro. Yonis started explaining the difference between the logos today and how many of them are out of trend because of what people want to see today. This provided us students with insight about how we should visualize our next logo design to become. The world today are transforming from emblem designs to lettered logos or icon logos. The logo that seems to have lost it’s time and trend is ‘Emblem Logos’.  Below you will understand the difference between each type of logo.  Three Types of Logos (Letters) (Icon) (Emblem) Letters= Logo in the form of letters belonging to the company There is a monogram that contains the company's initials There is a full company name in the logo Icon = Graphic or graphic representation of the company Logo composed of a photo Abstract logo Logo showing personality Shield = Logo consists of several things the same time as monogram in an abstract sign Composite logo of parts

Logo Design (Part of Project 1) Detailed Coverage of the Logo by Myself.  Critical Analysis of the logo designed by me.  When it comes to this logo, 

At the start it was meant to be about bottles, a company that sells bottles of water that stay cold, nothing new, just needed a new logo for this type of business.  I thought about it, and I really liked the name ‘Otis’, Otis comes from something cool and blue and this is exactly what my business is all about. I decided to design the logo and start from here. 

Then I realized that I was supposed to create something with the logo that represented the items under the name ‘Otis’. 

I came up with a dolphin because a dolphin is cold and blue. 

Now, if I would fix something in this design, it would be the background because it does not reflect on the waterside of bottles much, it’s more dark and sad I would say. 

The other thing I would fix is the fact that word bottles is not shown well with the logo and the background, so changing the color of the background on the text in the bottom is definitely important.

Vans Advertisement (Part of Project 1)

Critical Analysis of Advertisement

This is a design about Van’s new shoes ‘Ultrarange’ which are shoe brand new in their company from design to style. Everyone knows Vans, they have nothing to do with the sporty type of shoes. 

Although they made this and I said to myself that I had to hop on this and create a design to advertise this shoe. 

The beginning was tough to figure out as are most designs in the beginning, but with time I started to figure out that it had to have some sort of an idea that represents it. I chose their slogan off the wall. 

You can see from here, I would put the shoes above the wall and create a shadow presenting the slogan off the wall, I created that and next was the idea of the advertisement.  I thought about a sale percentage fitting to Vans, then I chose 30%. 

The last part is the Ultrarange, and the reason I designed it like this is probably understood by most, Ultrarange=range, I created range basically to represent the word itself. 

The principle I focused on was a contrast in color in the background to make it stand out. The repetition in the text ‘Ultrarange’, and lastly Hierarchy starts from the most important to the least.

Al-Maidan Advertisment (Project 1) 

Critical Analysis of this Advertisement.  This advertisement is for a pitch in Karbabad, the reason this advertisement was made was that they basically had a foot tennis tournament coming up. This was what I was going for in the advertisement.  I used emphasis on the date and time to make sure they were acknowledged before anyone read anything else. 

Of course, the name of the tournament also has emphasis and contrast in size which is what makes it more significant. 

I realized that to make this advertisement stand out and make football fans interested was the feeling it portrayed them. I used light colors that would mean it would open up to their soul in a way. They would feel fresher. When it comes to football, this is a bit rare I would say, everything else is serious and night-style portrayed. 

What I would fix in this, is the fact that the net in the bottom left grass is not portrayed above also, this does not make a lot of sense. 

I would also make the logo in the middle more visually appealing rather than this.

Logo Re-Design | Logo Design  (مطعم شمس العراق) Critical Analysis on the logo by myself.

Process, Concept, Ideation, Inspiration, Elements, Techniques, and Principles

The reason I chose this logo was that this logo was actually re-designed recently by the restaurant and I felt bad they did not give it its max potential the second try.  I decided to take a chance on this and made this. A chef’s hat on the sun that has a “fez” on it which is something in Iraq, and it has grills written on the hat to explain the components of the restaurant.  Mustache also signifies Iraq. The techniques were placement, shape builder tool, ellipse, type, pen, line, achor, and direct selection tool.  Elements include line, shape, and color. Principles include color harmony, emphasis on color, and contrast in size and color.  @uob-funoon

Photography Metaphor

Process, concept, ideation, principles, and elements  When I took this picture, one of the first thoughts I had were why this looks so clean from insects. Then I thought about putting any sort of family, not just insects. So I decided to do that with the monkeys acting like these unique fruits were the house they lived in.

Barcode Metaphor  Process, Ideation, Concept, and Elements 

Barcodes are all over the world, the metaphor I wanted to implement from the idea that barcodes looked like hair was a haircut. The concept is to make the barcode look like a guy’s hair that was being cut. The elements I used were lines, value, space, and shape. Principles include repetition in the lines and hair-looking paths.

Object Metaphor 

Process, Inspiration, Ideation, and Concept: 

In order to create this piece of work I need inspiration, started looking into Pinterest and google images, and I found the cotton buds, so I decided to start implementing cotton buds with something more creative which was boat riding and cotton buds were the paddles to move the boat. The principles I used were color harmony and color contrast. The elements I used were lines in the shape of the figures, and shapes for the look-alike shadow in the boats.

Typographic Logo The Process:  It all started from being inspired by the knife that looked in my imagination like the letter “i”. I decided I would create a whole design from that idea and moved on to making spikes and putting a throwing knife at the beginning of the letter k.  Ideation: The idea came from the letter “i” looking like a knife in my point of view

The Elements: The elements I used were mainly contrasted in color by making the word knife look so bold because there are no other colors except white in the background. It is also emphasized in the middle.  The techniques: I used the point tool to make the spikes and the eraser to erase gaps.  @uob-funoon
