Born in Portland, Maine to Turkish parents, Yasemin Akman spent most of her early childhood running around with her sister on the outskirts of the beautiful, New England city. Her parents, a very dedicated accountant, and a strict cardiologist both made sure that their girls were not only raised with love but also, with ambitions and eyes set on building themselves stellar careers. So Yasemin grew up with this greed for things; She’d always wanted more than she had been given, and obviously, she knew she would have to work hard to make things possible for herself.
Such greed, in Yasemin, was mixed with a compassion instilled in her by her father, especially after than man had suffered a car accident that landed him on a wheelchair. From that day on, Bekir Akman became his daughters’ guiding light at home whereas their mother Cemre filled the girls lives with stories of improvement and encouragement.
At the age of fourteen, her family moved to Orange County, California due to a promotion that had been given to Dr. Akman, to work as the chief of Cardiology in the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. In California, Yasemin blossomed even more as both a young woman and the academic prodigy she’d started to work on back in New England. It was also in California that she began trying to be as different as possible from her twin sister, Hazal. She started dying her hair, wearing too much eye make-up, lashing out at people… eventually, it stopped.
It was towards the end of her high school years that she met someone who possibly became the most significant turning point in her life. From the moment they met, they seemed to be connected at the hip, and with time, that friendship and care turned into love. They seemed to work well together, she helped him with his studies and with his social skills and he---well, he gave her love. Pure love and companionship. He seemed to be her biggest supporter and for someone who aimed as high as Yasemin did, she could use all the support from around her. Her family had practically adopted him too, and from the time they had graduated high school, a marriage proposal knocked on her door, swooped her parents off their feet too, and there she was, having the cutest little end-of-the-summer wedding with her first love.
College life wasn’t as hard as most people made it out to be. Yasemin got accepted into Berkeley to study Marketing, and while her husband didn’t have the same luck to be accepted to the same university, he still followed her to Northern California to give their love a chance. So, since she had the academic part of her life already decided, it wasn’t hard for Yasemin to focus on what she needed to focus. The best part was that her husband, despite not going to the same University as her, also seemed interested in academic life, so all the pressure their friends were putting on them, asking about babies and all that, she could push to the back of her mind and focus on what mattered.
However, as time passed, Yasemin started feeling like she was trapped. It wasn’t like she didn’t love her husband, because she did. She truly did, but their lives came to a point where his life revolved around hers and hers revolved around something else: her career. Yasemin began feeling suffocated and unhappy, which was not ideal for marriage. Her career was going great, her social life was amazing and yet, there was still pressure to start a family and Yasemin didn’t know if it came from within herself or from the ones around her and it was taking a toll on her mental health.
When the opportunity to spend a few months studying in London showed up, Yasemin figured it was time to sit down and have a much-needed conversation with her high school sweetheart. Finally, she and her husband signed the divorce papers and she moved to London to do continue focusing on her career.
While in London, Yasemin moved on to study Consumer Behavior in a Master's course once again, focusing on building herself a career and thinking of herself as smarter than the others in the room despite her love life had fallen apart. Everything in her life seemed to happen so fast and so intensely that Yasemin didn't seem to be surprised by the curve balls and obstacles that life seemed to throw her way. In fact, she seemed to be determined not to let them stop her. She moved back to the United States, more precisely to New York City to work as the Marketing Chief of a multinational company. It was also in New York where she had a medical emergency due to burnout, which led her to a complete change in her career.
Both her therapist and her Psychiatrist had her step out of work, but, as stubborn and unstoppable as she was, Yasemin started taking getting her realtor’s license and from there, the sky was the limit. A friend gave her the opportunity to join a rising real estate company, and with her expertise in sales, consumer behavior, and sweet talking, it didn’t take long for Yasemin to start closing deals on millionaire properties and getting herself big commissions out of them. Soon enough, she was scouted to join a really big and important real estate agency with offices all over the United States, where she could create a solid network and make a bigger name for herself.
What brought Yasemin to Wilmington was the chance to oversee the Wilmington offices of the agency she works for. She still drives to Raleigh once or twice a week for important meetings, but for most situations, she’s able to do those online. She bought herself a small beautiful house facing the ocean in Wrightsville Beach and has been living there for the last three years.
She was at Lincoln Park that morning after her usual run with Yasemin, enjoying the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. As she strolled along the winding path, she noticed a squirrel darting across her path, carrying an acorn in its mouth. The little critter's determination was pretty cute—she couldn’t help but chuckle softly. But then the squirrel abruptly stopped, dropped the acorn, and scurried back towards her. What the heck? She took a step back as the squirrel approached her feet, eyeing her sneakers with curiosity. "Whoa there, little guy!" She said. "I'm flattered, but I don't think my shoes would make a very cozy home for you." The squirrel seemed to consider this for a moment before bounding off. Layla looked back at her running buddy, shaking her head. "That's never happened to me before…"
Yasemin couldn't help but laughing at the scene unfolding in front of her. "I think you've found yourself a lover." She teased her friend, obviously joking, of course. "You're already doing much better than me, since he didn't even want anywhere near me." She almost pouted, although she did press her lips together as if she was going to eventually pout. "Should we continue?" / @laylcsaxena
It didn't take much for a wild idea to take hold and for action to follow when it came to Cassia and any possible adventure. Before her profession as a paramedic there had never been anyone relying on her so it had always been easy to pick up and go whenever a whim moved her to do so. Somehow she'd gained an entire weekend off and she didn't want to waste it lazing about when there could be fun to partake in and another experience added to the memory bank. After a quick back was packed Cassia headed over to Yasemin's and found herself in an expected reaction as she stood in her friend's kitchen with a freshly made coffee in hand.
"I can and I do," she easily confirmed and sipped the hot drink. "Don't act like you don't need it." It wasn't a knock on the woman's beauty but she looked tired and not just from a lack of sleep. More so from a lack of living. "When's the last time you did anything strictly for yourself? Hell... when's the last time you had some real fun?"
Yasemin stood there, thinking about what her friend had just asked her. She was right... it had been so long since Yas had done something fun and reckless... as of lately, she'd been nothing but a workaholic type A kind of person. "You're lucky I love you." The older woman shook her head, dropping her hands from her waist to let them hang beside her, then waved Cassia further inside her house. "Let's suppose I say yes... how about you help me pick outfits? A weekend you said?" She asked, already going inside her walk-in closet. "Are we doing 'cool for the summer', 'shamelessly single' or should I pick something classier?" / @cassiasalas
"Hi -- Yasemin Akman?" He greeted, and nodded when he felt he had the right person, "Nice to meet you -- I'm sorry I'm late, traffic's a bitch." He slid into the booth opposite the woman, and sat his arms on the flat surface of the table. "Thank you for agreeing to me. I've been looking into buying a home, and I've been recommended to you. I hear you're the best in the field." He smiled softy at the woman, "I'm sorry, did you want to order something to eat? Coffee maybe?"
"Coffee is great, thank you." Yasemin smiled with grace. She didn't take lightly on people being late, especially after learning how precious her time should be considered, but, she tended to look past it when it came to potential clients. "Do you have a preference of neighborhood? Just so I know where to start looking." She asked as she clicked on her tablet and adjusted its cover behind it, to support its weight./ @jaydenlucas
Ariya's heart raced as she realized she had nearly caused an accident by stepping in front of Yasemin's car. Still, the baby bird needed protecting. She cradled it against her chest, and apologized. "I'm so sorry, Yas. I didn't mean to startle you like that. This little guy was about to wander into traffic and I just reacted without thinking." She looked down at the tiny creature, its beak opening and closing as it let out faint peeps. "I don't think he's injured, thankfully. But he seems too young to be out of the nest on his own. Poor thing must have fallen or gotten separated from his mama somehow." Her brows knitted together as she pondered what to do. "I'm not sure where his nest is… Maybe I should just find a safe spot in one of the trees to put him for now? Somewhere his parents might be able to find him again?—What do you think? I'd hate to just leave him on the ground where a cat or something could get to him. He needs a fighting chance."
Yasemin waved her hand, as if to dismiss the younger woman's words because although she appreciated the apologies, she knew Ariya hadn't meant her actions in the first place. No on in their right mind jumps in front of a moving car. "Why don't we take them to the pet shop?" To her, it seemed like the most reasonable option. "And maybe we can come back later to try and find its nest? I don't hear any tweets, so it might not be around here?" But then again, she didn't know much about animals in the first place. "I think the doctors there will know how to handle this situation better than us alone."/ @ariyacl
Haz listened as her sister shared about her life—which seemed to be consumed by work and stress-relieving workouts. She could relate to the feeling of being stuck in a mundane routine, but it worried her to see Yasemin so apathetic. “I’ll have the strawberry one, thank you.” Guilt gnawed at her for not being more present in her sister's life lately. When Yasemin mentioned wanting to live vicariously through her, she bit her bottom lip. There was nothing special about her life, other than the fact she’d somehow ended up being embroiled with her boss. "Yas, there's something I need to tell you," she as they stepped outside. "Remember how I mentioned things were getting better at work? Well, that's not the whole story." She paused, gathering her thoughts as she fiddled with her gelato spoon. Her heart raced, and she could feel the heat rising in her cheeks.
"Lincoln and I… we kissed. Twice, actually. Once at the gala when I was pretending to be his girlfriend, and then again at the springtide bash." The words tumbled out in a rush, and embarrassment washed over her. "I'm so confused, Yas. I don't know what to think or feel about it." She looked at her sister, her eyes pleading for understanding. "Please don’t judge me and I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. I just didn't know how to process it all." She sighed, taking a small bite of her gelato before continuing. Her mind was a jumble of emotions, and she struggled to make sense of it all. "I'm worried that I might be developing feelings for him, but I don't know if I can trust him after everything that's happened between us." She reached out and gently squeezed her sister's hand, a gesture of sisterly love and support. "I know you've got a lot on your plate, but I really need your advice on this. What do you think I should do?"
It was a beautiful sunny day and Yasemin would be damned if she would be enjoying it inside the ice cream shop, so, as she adjusted her shades over her eyes and took a bite from her caramel apple pie scoop, she cocked her head to the side as Hazal went on about her predicament. "Okay, first of all... why would i judge you?" With that, she moved her sunglasses to rest them on top of her head so that her sister could see her eyes as she blinked a couple of times. Did she really seem the type of person who would judge her sister's actions that way? "Bebeğim, you can come to me with anything." She said, reaching over to place her hand over her younger twin's and giving it a light squeeze.
As her sister shared the news about herself and Lincoln, Yasemin bit softly on her bottom lip. Sure, she had her fair share of relationships, but, considering the fact that she was still single after all these years, maybe her reasoning for being extra cautious was the reason why she didn't let herself go that often. "Do you know how he feels about you?" She asked, arching one brow. "I mean, I feel like he would be the one who should be worried as, well, he's your boss and this just screams sexual harassment should things go south, but..." She then pressed her lips together, before continuing. "How do you feel about all of this? You told me you might be catching feelings for him, but... do you feel like you might want to act on them or not?" / @hazalakmcn
Corrie's plans for the day off had been simple – wake up, morning run, head to the store and grab a pint of Half Baked ice cream, then come home to settle in front of the TV to ... rest? Rot? She hadn't been sure herself, but she hadn't had to worry about that long - or at all, really – with the summons from her friend shifting the schedule in two seconds flat to send her on a direct path to the gym. 'Summons', like she wouldn't have dropped everything anyway for the company.
Maybe she could have given it a little more thought though, she'd since decided, and found herself considering yet again as Yasemin's voice reached her ears. Bent forward, hands braced against her knees as she caught her breath, she pulled a face at the other woman and this cursed bonus round, before a grin split across it, the act dropped, and she straightened. "Deal. And maybe winner remembers to take pity next time? Yas, lovingly, respectfully, you're kicking my ass."
Yasemin couldn't help but laugh at her friend's comment about her kicking Corrie's ass. It wasn't intentional, of course, but, she guessed that it also had something to do with her competitive nature. "Psh, as if I would ever take pity on a strong woman like you." She quipped back, but made a mental note to herself to actually take it easy on her friend. "C'mon, Moreno. Give me your best shot!" Yas teased, still keeping her guard up, after all, her face was her best feature when it came to work and, should Corrie manage to hit her, Yas wouldn't want to have to resorts to tons of make up to hide a black eye.
With ease, they moved around their little workout area, swinging and swaying and keeping themselves sharp when it came to their little sparring. "How's work?" She asked, hoping to find a breach in a distraction and hopefully, take advantage of it.
pearce was sure that yasemin was right. this all wasn't worth it but a part of him didn't want the other to make him look like he was a complete woos because as much as he hated fighting, he was capable of protecting himself. it was like the mention of security was the last thing the other wanted to hear and he wasted no time pulling away from pearce and glancing back behind his shoulder. he mumbled something before walking off and pearce shook his head as his hands smoothed over his shirt, "some people, huh? i was just trying to look out for you."
"I know you were," The brunette's expressions softening at the thought, because if there was someone who had found a way of letting her being taken care of, that someone was Pearce. "And I love you way too much for it, but we don't need a random no one ruining our evening out." She pointed out, swatting his hands away from his torso so she could smooth his shirt, then brushed an invisible dust off his shoulders. "I can take care of myself though, Pearce." With that, she leaned up and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. "Now, let's just ignore the fact that some men don't know how to take no for an answer and sit down for a drink, okay?" / @pearcecallahan
Kimberly grinned, "I figured. Although I will say, I've been told I'm quite likeable Yas. So I couldn't help, but test it out by playing with fire." It was a flat out egotistical lie, but she couldn't help but joke around at this point. "I would not pass this up, ever! I get the best of both worlds, a new dish to learn from scratch and good company." Looking at her cart, she then asked, "Did you need to get any other groceries?"
"Whoever says you're anything less than quite likeable would be lying." The older woman smiled. She didn't have many friends, she guessed... or at least, she didn't have as many as she used to back when she was younger, but it was nice to see a friend in Kimberly. "Well, since we are splurging, how about I make you dinner, then?" Yasemin offered. It would be nice to spend the night in the company of a friend, and she was dead sure that both Cassia and Peyton were tired of her boring life already. "We'll have homemade hummus as entrance, I promise!" She chuckled yet again. "And my answer to your question relies solely on your answer, so tell me, Kim... do I need to get any other groceries?" / @kmadrigalsoto
Irza smiled, a brow arching at her suggestion. "Both? Not a bad idea at all. My mom would probably get a kick out of that," he said with a grin. Glancing down at the stuff in his hands, he mulled it over. "Guess I could splurge a bit for her birthday. God knows she's earned it after dealing with me for all these years." When he looked back up, he caught a flicker of recognition in her eyes. It wasn't exactly shocking, given his current job as the town's mayor. Figuring he might as well make it official, he introduced himself. "I’m Irza. Thanks for the tip. You looking for anything special today?"
Irza didn't sound like your regular all-american name, and after having read his last name in electoral ballots and being to his campaign rallies a few times, she had learned of the man's turkish origins, which was nice to think about. "Tanıştığıma memnun oldum, Irza. I'm Yasemin." The brunette smiled, switching from Turkish back to English after saying it was nice to meet him. "Now, if you're really thinking about splurging, I'm probably the best person to have around. I guess that would depend on what your mother likes." Because yes, sometimes Yasemin spent one too many dollars on shoes, make-up and scented candles. "I'm not looking for anything special, no. Just browsing through the sections. I liked the black silk scarf you also checked, so maybe I'll get that one before you change your mind." / @irzaozer
A ventilated house in the warm weather of North Carolina would hopefully make him miss India a little less. Because his place in the city of Mumbai had been glorious like that. It had the largest windows that could open and allow the wind to sweep through the entire open floor plan, creating a naturally cooling environment without the use of air conditioners. It was pretty much what he hoped for here as well. Sure this was a ground level home so it wouldn’t provide the views and height he was used to with his large duplex in Mumbai but he’d get used to it. “Absolutely, ventilation is key…I don’t want to be stuck relying on air conditioned air all the time.”
For Nikhil this wasn’t his first home purchase and he didn’t anticipate it being his last. Which was precisely why he had come equipped with the right questions to ask and was glad to see Yasemin attempt to answer all of them without referring to her notes and the listing information. The water heater had been a concern because he knew it could get costly and leaving his wife to handle all of that didn’t feel right, especially when she was already doing so much for him. “Okay perfect, and the roof was replaced when exactly? I noticed a few of the shingles coming loose which isn’t an immediate problem, but I just want to know what we need to expect going forward.” Nikhil moved around the space comfortably as he started imagining the different ways they could decorate and bring a sort of personal touch to this place they’d both call home even if it wasn’t in the way conventional married people would.
As she spoke up about the nursery it wasn’t something he had an interest in looking at right now, especially since there was going to be no baby on the way in this household any time soon. Not to mention, it was going to be a space they utilized in another way for sure, and her suggestion was actually perfect as she spoke up about the home office for Asha. He figured it would be good for her even if she didn’t specify anything when they’d spoken about what the house should have. “Yes she is,” he said with a smile on his face, wanting only the best for his friend. She was doing him such a huge thing by sacrificing a part of her life this way that he wanted to ensure she got everything she could hope for in their new home, no matter how temporary it was. “I think it looks good so far. And you mentioned it’s got a large garage space right? What about the backyard? Is it just the lot or has it been fenced off already?” Though if it was a chain-link fence, Nikhil would get that fixed right away, after all—he wasn't a fan of the lack of security that type of fence provided.
"Neither should you." Yasemin quipped back as she tapped with her magnetic pen on her tablet and continued walking around the house. "There are several ventilation points in the house, which you can choose to connect to keep this or that area fresher, so it was really a well-thought out house. Like I said, the previous owners' parents lived with them, so it has the comfort of a house built for an elderly couple, that we would definitely appreciate the practicality of it all." Yasemin wasn't much of a blabber, mostly when it came to work. Hazal, she reckoned, had always been the most talkative of the twins, which made it easier for the younger woman to make friends and all that. Yasemin was always the more direct one, the short and sweet one.
"The roof was replaced late last year, but due to that snowstorm we had in late January, that's possibly the cause of those shingles you've found, to be slightly lose." Again, Yas moved her tablet away from her chest, so she could check her e-mails while she continued speaking to Nikhil. "The owner did say some shingles were to be replaced this month, so I wouldn't worry that much. You have to remember the house hasn't gone in the market yet," a friendly reminder as to why the shingles hadn't been replaced and why the house wasn't in perfect state, "so, the owner is doing some last-minute renovations as we speak." The brunette offered him a smile. She did like the way he asked his questions and established what he wanted. In fact, she liked it a lot. The only thing Yasemin liked even more than that was the way Mr. Kohli let her prove her worth, by asking difficult questions which she had the proper answer for them.
Too bad he was a married man.
As they made their way back downstairs, Yasemin then moved along to the back area which had a nice pool, a barbecue area, seats and tables to welcome guests. "It hasn't been fenced yet," Yas said as she opened the glass doors that made way to the pool area, her heels staying away from the fresh grass, "but we have worked with a wonderful security agency, so I could get you their contact if you'd like. The garage fits at least four vehicles and it has two bike hangers, too." / @nikhilxkohli
Amos was definitely on the verge of losing his mind. He and Camila hadn't figured out when or where he was finally going to meet their daughter. Honestly, Amos wasn't even sure how to do that. He couldn't remember the last time he'd even interacted with a child and honestly, up until that day in his living room, he didn't even know that he wanted a child. The more days passed, the more that the tennis player realized he wanted them though, or at least, he wanted this one that already existed. He wanted to do right by her. So there he was, standing just a few feet away from a toy store and acting like he knew what he was doing. Looking back and forth between the giant lego set at the toy store and the sports merch store right next to it. He felt someone just walking past him and sighed. "Do you think four year olds like Lego's? Wait, little girls play with Lego's too right? I just think giving her a doll is probably too boring, you know?
Yasemin pressed her lips together as she eyed the different type of toys on display in front of her. She didn't have a problem with children, not at all, she just didn't have many of those in her life with the exception of the offsprings of some of her co-workers, and even those she didn't spend that much time with. When someone asked for her opinion on Legos, she pressed her lips for a second, before looking back at the man. "I think we are the ones who tend to make everything about gender, if you ask me." She shrugged. "I think you should go with the Legos, though. Because then she gets to practice her coordination, her creativity and everything else. I do agree that dolls are very commonplace." And then, she turned her body halfway towards the Legos on display. "Which one would you rather get if you were turning seven? The Star Wars one or the Batman one?" / @amosdeleon
A grin appeared on Kimberly's lips as she crossed her arms and said, "Remind me not to be in the same room as you when we're hangry then cause I don't think those around can handle us." It was half-joke, half-truth since on her end she would just yap away with no filter until she's fed. The look on Yasemin's face was enough to say it all that she was not leaving with a spread of hummus from the supermarket. "That was offensive, I should have known better." she replied in an innocent tone as she faked a pout. "Aww, you're the best Yasemin!! I'd love that." Ever since she'd been on her own the heiress was always down to learn something new. Holding a hand over her heart and the other arm with the hand up like she's being sworn in, "I won't let you down!..." Dropping her arms to her side, she then tilted her head and asked, "But also I don't want to intrude. Were you off today or?"
Yasemin couldn't help but laughing at Kimberly's imput as she was indeed right. Yas was truly unbearable when she was hungry, her baba and Haz were often at the end of her fury, unfortunately. "It was offensive and you're lucky I like you, otherwise I would have left you alone with your awful choice of spread hummus." Again, she chuckled, as her previous words had taken a somewhat threatening tone, but she was merely joking. "I'm not exactly off, but I don't have any showings today, so I can do my desk job at home with no trouble. So, what do you say? Are you joining me for home-made hummus and casual conversation?" / @kmadrigalsoto
He browsed through the store, looking for the perfect gift for his mother's birthday. Irza had narrowed it down to two options: a beautiful cashmere scarf in her favorite color or a leather-bound journal with her initials embossed on the cover. Both were thoughtful choices, but he found himself torn between them. Noticing a woman nearby, he turned to her with a friendly smile. "Excuse me, I was hoping to get your opinion on something. I'm trying to pick out a gift for my mom's birthday. Which do you think she'd like more—the scarf or the journal?" He held up both items, his warm brown eyes hopeful as he waited for her input.
Nothing in particular had brought Yasemin to the mall that day, but, with the way she'd been feeling lately, maybe some retail therapy ought to help. She'd been distracted, browsing through the scarves when someone approached her and asked for her opinion. "See, the thing about me is that, whenever I'm in doubt, I ask myself: why not both?" The real estate agent chuckled. There was something highly familiar about the man's face... where had she seen him before? "Not that it's financially healthy, but if it's for your mother, then I'm sure she'll love both of them." Oh... the mayor! Of course! / @irzaozer
