Penny wasn’t exactly certain why this particular green plant was supposed to spontaneously solicit the touching of lips. She also wasn’t sure what was so agreeable about that, but she knew she wanted it.
However, she didn’t want it from just anyone. She wanted it from the person that was supposed to walk through the door in approximately four minutes and seven seconds.
Four minutes, six seconds now, if Ruby didn’t want to be late for her meeting with General Ironwood. The mistletoe was hanging above the door and according to her research she would have to be standing under it at the exact same time. It shouldn’t be too difficult to execute, four minutes exactly now.
Over the next few minutes, Penny thought about the results of this endeavor. What would it be like to kiss Ruby? She had never kissed anyone before, never wanted to. It was a rather strange compulsion when considered. A kind of want without any evidence it would even be agreeable. Three minutes, two sec-
“Hi, Penny. What are you doing here?”
The door had opened ahead of schedule and Ruby stood, right under the mistletoe.
“Ruby!” Penny rushed forward. She wasn’t quite prepared but she needed to get under the door if the plan was to go off without a hitch. “I wish to facilitate a holiday tradition.”
Ruby raised her eyebrow. “What?”
There followed a series of micro expressions from Ruby. At first confusion, then a small smile and soon a chuckle. “Penny, why have you hung parsley above our door?”
Penny tilted her head before scratching it. “That’s not mistletoe?”
Ruby laughed with a snort. “No, it’s not. It’s parsley, you know? For eating.”
“So not for kissing?” Penny replied. “I seem to have made a small error. Please allow me a moment to correct it.”
Penny reached up to remove the parsley but was stopped when Ruby grabbed her arm.
“Nah.” She said with a smile. “Let’s just pretend it’s mistletoe.”
“But it’s not,” Penny replied, a little confused. “It would not take me long to correct this error and retrieve the correct plant. I will-Mmm!”
Before she could complete the thought, Ruby kissed her.
Ruby’s lips were indeed as soft as she had suspected. She had a gentle scent, sweet and pleasing to the senses. A warmth radiated from touch when her hand gently caressed her cheek. Penny didn’t wonder any longer why she wanted this so much. It didn’t matter anymore.
When Ruby pulled back it was far too soon for her liking and she sighed a little.
“Further speculation is no longer required,” Penny said, smiling. “I enjoyed that very much.”
Ruby chuckled a little breathlessly. “Yeah me too. Wanna do it again?”
Penny didn’t need even a second to think about that. She grinned and nodded enthusiastically.
“Great!” Ruby said, smirking a little. “Another kiss under the parsley.”
Penny laughed a little and kissed her again. Aside from the small plant-based miscalculation, another highly rewarding and perfectly executed mission accomplished.
