Directly inspired by Booyahbornu's "Alternate world" Terraria concepts I've been making up my own shit
With the idea being that regular Terraria is affected by Cthulhu, his Terraria was affected by Tsathoggua, and mine by Gug.
If you don't know what Gug is, it is literally just a Lovecraft monster that looks if you took Four Arms from Ben 10 an orangutan and Bigfoot and slammed them together and it's somehow came out cohesive and really fucking angry at anything.
Basically the world is harsher, magic isn't abundant like it is in Terraria proper. Where there's wizardly magics and powerful sorceries there as magic is in innate part of its power, here it's like old marshall ritual magic, like D&D style monks and paladins. Old runic whetstones or ancient hand sigil arts that create spells.
In place of the regular forests there is the TAIGA, knotted and rooted in its flooring, the trees here grow dense and tall, protection from the beasts that which lumber beyond them.
The snow is replaced by a VOLCANIC TUNDRA, place blasted into coldness by the ash in the air and on the ground. Black and sooty with dead trees and a whipping cold wind.
The desert is replaced with vast valleys, some of the deepest areas in the land other than the ocean, SALT FLATS. White cracked and fragile environments where you can easily fall through into caverns below.
And of those very beaches, being covered in huge craggy mountains that open into vast alcoves beneath their Cliff faces, a TAFONI BEACH.
The jungle being replaced with a WETLAND SWAMP. This one was very directly influenced in concept by their idea but I went more Southeastern North America, so like proper shade everywhere can't see over the canopy mosquitoes glutting out the fucking Sky even if there was light. That kind of stuff
Two evils are based off of hair and bile as opposed to rot and blood.
Being the CUTICULATION (Corruption): vast wiry briars of hair and dermatitis storms like those of sandstorms. Everything here is either a creature completely made of or controlled by their hair
CONSUMPTION (Crimson) where everything is melting and digesting either itself or each other, like everything aesthetically "40K Nurgle" but without the virulence part.
There's also an alternate to the hollow, being a trance like Lily pad-filled near infinite canopy. Like there's a pool at the bottom that's just sleepy water but like otherwise basically the entire way up and down through the biome is fully just different levels of Lily canopies floating through the air. THE SOPROSE
Deeper into the ground you get to places like THE BLOOD POCKETS, this world's answer to beehives, being gross inner lung material looking clusters of blood wax hives made by these nesting mosquitoes.
Instead of the mushroom biome there is the slick sofa biome, instead of mushroom people and mushroom aside creatures it's worms and worm filled and covered creatures, the biome just being referred to as the SLICK SULFUR
Next up being the alternatives to the marble and granite biomes respectively, being the OBSIDIAN GLASS & GYPSUM biomes. Partly just trading places with each other in color but also these being different shades of those colors, like the obsidian glass is more pearlescent while the gypsum has a much Pinker milkier tone then the sterile granite.
Also further down into the swamp see you end up encountering the tombs, this world's equivalent to the jungle temple. Specifically called the ANURARA TOMBS, inhabited by large sentient poison dart frogs who are all wearing very priestly vestments as they are all just the people kind of warding the tomb rather than actual like warriors or people in a city.
The spider cave is replaced with the termite nest because.. to be entirely honest I was thinking about ticks when I first made the idea but I've already fleshed it out too far to go anywhere away from termites so... TERMITE NESTS!
The floating islands have a weird naming structure because I named them after the guy that did the spell in D&D that raised mountains out of the ground. The referred to as the "PROCTIVE KARST ISLANDS" as they are lifted into the air using ancient Lost magic akin to Proctiv from D&D that raised these almost monastery like temples at the top of these spire like floating islands into the sky. Rather than being on clouds they're tall
Going in like boss fight order
1. SLIME BAND (three larger than normal slimes carrying individual members of a stereotypical party of adventurers)
2. TOOTH OF GUG (a large dislodged autonomic tooth, having a few nerves hanging off the back like the eye, and went into its second phase it actually just cracks down the bottom giving it the shape of a beat almost, the shards loading beneath it.)
Within the cuticulation, the SWALLOWER OF GODS (eater of worlds parallel, a flatworm rather than a long actual worm, being barely short but the way that it moves is much more like a train, it just kind of charges back and forth and will slowly climb elevation towards you if there is blocks to do so, the way that you summon it is fully just in Alaskan bull worm joke because you end up going into its mouth breaking a bunch of what you think are crystals to summon the boss, they're literally just it's tonsil stones..)
Then it's other in the consumption, the GUTS OF GUG (a roiling mass of guts that hangs in the air while spewing bile acid at the player and firing gnashing mouths out of the top extra mouth on top of what would be the intake valve, just the grossest looking thing possible and then it's it's second phase some of the guts split open and get teeth and it's not like streamlined it looks fucking gross, but as a fun thing the or you get from this biome is vivianite)
3. The queen bee analog is the MOS-KING-TO, basically everything exactly the same as the queen bee he just has a bleeding effect.
This one's a double up on information as it's talking about the replacement of the dungeon and skeletron
Essentially it's a coliseum in this world, it's a much flatter open place to where you have to fight this like almost raid boss as opposed to skeletron to get into the lower areas which you'll be attacked by like an unkillable swarm of warriors if you don't. The warriors are created by the equivalent to skeletron dropping its ribs.
4. It's name is RIBZORD, a massive weirdly tall rib cage with more ribs than there should be and two pairs of shoulder blades. Also it's hard to see but when I do actually make the art there is an eye inside of the rib cage which will start showing up in other designs more blatantly. It's boss fight works as it dropping its ribs and those ribs growing into warriors exactly like the Hydra teeth warriors from the golden fleece myth.
5. Another double up, instead of Hell or the underworld there is Asphodel, instead of blame and brimstone it's dripping near rotten ancient marble and lichen. Not dark and unknowable like Booyahbornu's underworld pastiche butt much more Hades like, it is beautiful and dead. And once you do the things to summon the wall of flesh equivalent it's not the Wall of flesh it's something fucking worse somehow
5a. The gate of Tartarus (a small slit rips its way upward into the top of the screen from the bottom, it's basically just a black hole but like a line, and then it starts to tear open, first a few fingers then some arms then and I stock just a bunch of different random monsters, none of them being the same thing, all of them just ripping out and punching and slapping and slashing and zapping anything in their vicinity. The idea being that you bringing together the things to have opened this gate in the first place is evidence enough for the gate to have opened to try and swallow you because you could end up becoming a threat and it's hyper-reactive due to the damages caused by the version of the Moon Lord here; but in defeating the monsters trying to come out you prove yourself worthy of being able to stay upon the land as a warrior of some higher fate).
This thing's already fucking chocked full of information so I'm not trying to add the entirety of post hard mode in one post
