Just As Sweet
 A Byun Baekhyun Scenario
It was such a beautiful Saturday, much warmer than it should have been in late February. Beyond excited to spend the day out of the house to enjoy the weather, you quickly scurried, on your way to Apgujeong for some street shopping. You especially wanted to visit Jetoy, a wonderful Choo Choo Cat store, to browse the huge selections of fluffy toys and stationery branded with felines and bright pastel colors.
After slipping into your bright red chucks, you waved a quick goodbye to your family, and off you went. Â Once outside, you were glad you opted to wear jeans and a hoodie rather than the sundress you had originally chosen--the breeze was no joke. You slipped your headphones in and adjusted your ipod to the EXO playlist. It was your favorite for warm spring days like these. You bobbed your head to "Lucky" as you crossed the Dongho Bridge into the shopping district. First stop had to be ice cream; since a warm day isn't complete without it.
You began skipping excitedly as you got closer to the ice cream shop. Â You smirked as your ipod switched to "Love Me Right", as if it knew to keep up with your pace. Â Even with the upbeat track playing, you couldn't help but be slightly disappointed when your destination greeted you with a "closed" sign. Â You frowned as you watched the faces and shared the feeling of momentary setback with a small family who also realized they wouldn't get to enjoy any sweet treats today.
This minor obstacle didn't ruin your mood too terribly, as the excitement returned once you laid eyes on the entrance to Jetoy. You didn’t indulge in your girly side much, but today you decided it was time to run wild with your secret desires. A childish feeling washed over your body as you meekly opened one of the bright pink double doors. You were excited when you saw that there wasn't anyone else inside. You could enjoy the store without any awkward feelings like someone was watching you. You browsed through the many shelves, notebooks, diaries, and writing utensils nearby. The need to buy each and every item cluttered your mind. You knew you could spend hours in this store, lost in all the colorful items while thinking of how you could creatively use them.
Your train of thought was broken as you heard the familiar sound of the door bells. You knew that you could no longer enjoy the store on your own. Stifling a sigh, you tried to focus on looking at things once more. You secretly hoped whomever had stopped in would leave quickly.
“Ahjumma, do you mind if I set my bags by the counter while I browse?” said the newly arrived customer.
<You knew that voice. Where did you hear it before?> You thought to yourself as you quickly turned to looked up at the store owner who was guiding the customer on where to set his bags.
It was Byun Baekhyun--you immediately averted your eyes when he turned from the counter to begin shopping. The last thing you wanted to do was give in to all your fan girl tendencies. You didn't want him to catch your blatant glancing, so you turned your gaze to products around you--seemingly minding your business.
You eventually turned to him, giving in to your curiousity. You observed him carefully as he cooed, smiled and giggled--making some of the cutest faces. You weren’t surprised to see him utterly enthralled as he examined the cutesy, girly items. It was what you loved about him; his ability to freely enjoy all that he wanted with no fear of judgment.
“You know I won’t bite right?” his breath at your ear, startling you out of your daydream. He chuckled at your shock and grabbed the stationery from your hand before it could fall to the ground. “What’s your name? I would introduce myself, though I think you may be familiar already.”
Trying not to make your shock too obvious , you shyly gave him your name with a smile. This was the last thing you expected to happen when you left your house today. Byun Baekhyun was standing right beside you. What were you supposed to say to your bias? You were not ready.
“What are you buying today?” he asked--his question snapping you out of another trance.
“I'm really just looking. I don't shop for things like this often. To be honest, I'm sort of embarrassed to be here--not that you wanted to know that. What am I saying?” you sighed. Your nerves had always tended to make you overshare.
“No, it's okay”-- he said as he elicited a smile that calmed you all the way down to your soul --“I asked because I wanted to know more about you. Why would you be embarrassed to be here? I mean, you are a girl, right? It can't be as embarrassing as me being here.”
“I guess it’s because I'm not known as a girly girl to my friends, at least. To them I'm the tough, quiet girl who spends her time studying and reading. They would probably laugh so hard if they saw me here. Also, I don't really like being in public. It's as if I'm being constantly judged,” you spewed to him, immediately regretting that you overshared again. Why did you feel so calm to tell him everything?
“I do understand. As you may know, I am constantly judged,” he smiled and calmed you again, “But it's just us here, so let's shop worry-free!” Just like that, Baekhyun started jumping around the store like a small dog while suggesting all the items you should direct your attention to. By the time the two of you were done, you had nearly filled your entire basket. There was a ton of colorful stationery, a single purse, and a cute fluffed up pillow. You were happy knowing he didn't push you to buy things; merely suggested what you may like. You knew without him you  would have likely left the store with nothing - which would have been regretful later on.
On your way to the counter, you noticed Baekhyun hadn't picked anything out for himself. While he wasn't looking, you snatched an extra tee shirt off a rack and shoved it into your basket. You hoped he would appreciate the gesture as a thank you for his inspiration and help. As you checked out, you caught him scrunching his forehead while nervously glued to his phone.
“What’s wrong?” you asked, not sure if you were prying.
“My manager says he can't send a car to come pick me up right now, which is a bunch of BS. Yesterday he assured me it would be fine, and I don't know how I'm going to get this home unscatched being forced to walk through the public. There will surely be fans!” by the time he finished his explanation, he was nearly screaming.
The worry on his face was apparent, as you stared at his bags while mulling over a solution. You thought you could offer to help carry his things home. You had no problem with that at all, though that doesn't solve the problem of the potential run-ins with overly excited fans. Baekhyun being photographed with a girl could complicate matters.
You continued thinking of solutions. Your parents both worked night jobs, so that was out of the question--though there was your older sister. Of course, she didn't follow kpop and surely knows nothing about EXO. She was absolutely harmless, and with that, you decided to call her. Though it took a little bit of convincing, a promised dinner and full gas tank was more than enough to ensure Baekhyun a ride home.
“Uhhhm, Baekhyun-sshi?” you said as he looked up at you questioningly, “I called my sister and she said driving you home was not a problem. So long as you are okay with it, that's a solution. I assure you she doesn’t know anything about you. You have nothing to worry about,” you ensured him.
The crease above his eyebrow began to fade as the smile grew below. You could really get used to seeing that smile. You could tell he was still holding back some nerves.
“Thank you so much! I can't believe you would do that for me,” said an accepting Baekhyun.
You gave him a big grin and nodded towards his bags, signalling to start gathering them up. Your sister only lived a few minutes away, and would be there soon. You watched as he struggled to gather them up--giggling as you stepped in and took a few off his arms.
"You know, it's not often that any of the members or I receive help from a fan with no sort of ultimatum. I'm glad that I met you today, and I'm really grateful that you are helping me out like this," Baek said as you both started loading bags into the trunk.
At that moment, a wicked idea had infiltrated your mind. Before you had the chance to suss out the details, you hurled into your response, "What makes you think I don't have an ultimatum?"
You lifted an eyebrow and kept your lips pursed. You watched as all the usual vibrant color left Baekhyun's face. He sputtered a little, shaking his head in near shock. He turned and hesitantly put the last of the bags into the car. He anxiously looked down at the bags if he wasn't sure to quickly snatch them back out or not. You stifled a giggle and kept your expression blank as you guys both entered the car. You only managed to hold in your act for a few seconds before you burst. You cackled loudly and nudged Baekhyun in the rib cage.
"I was only kidding Baekhyun-sshi! It was just a joke, I swear," you pleaded with him, mimicking some of the cutest faces he often used with his hyungs.
You watched as he sighed in relief, relaxing a little. "Seriously?"
"Seriously," you smiled.
"Are you trying to kill me?" he replied, starting to howl.
Both of you were in fits of laughter the rest of the way to his dorm. Baekhyun was barely able to give your sister the directions between all the giggles. Though despite the laughter, you couldn't help but be overcome with sadness, knowing the time you had left was coming to an end.Â
While the car pulled up to the dorms, a few fans were waiting to catch a glimpse of any one of the members. Lucky for Baek, you reminded him to call a staff member to meet him at the car. Â You looked him in the eyes while wearing a sad smile. You slowly lifted the shirt out of the bag of items from Jetoy, and motioned it towards Baek.
"For me?" he asked.
"Yes, I figured you didn't want to leave the store without buying something. I knew you wouldn't get it yourself, so...," you stumbled over your words as you handed it to him.
He started to move his hand toward yours.
"You should put your number in here, so I can take you for ice cream the next time I have a free schedule," he sincerely smiled as he handed you his phone.
You couldn't suppress the escaping grin as you quickly punched numbers into his phone, and handed it back. You waved furiously to him as he hopped out of the car and began walking to his dorm. Â
You may not have been able to enjoy ice cream on this beautiful day, but your future looked just as sweet.
"Everyone asks me if I changed, Its like you're nailed into my heart. My whole world is filled with you." EXO Overdose. Suho my Angel.
