I shared the same birthday with Picasso, but I like Mondrian more.

I finished the picture book of Piet Mondrian right after I finished Pablo Picasso.It’s true that Picasso was the pioneer of cubism, but seldom do people know how truely rebelllious and aggressive he was. (Well you can imagine, but more often the truth is beyond your imagination.) He once said these words, “Modern art must be killed.This means that one also has to kill oneself, if one is to continue accomplishing things” and these words, “As soon as you stop, you have to start again.You can leave a canvas aside, saying you won’t touch it again. But you never come to ‘The End’”.

But for Mondrian, he had once arrived at a “End” point in his artistic development that could take him no further – His new white paintings once appeared to have reached the limits of painting. As a matter of fact, he copied the works of great artists throughout his life, from Georges Barque to Vincent Van Gogh, from his friend Theo van Doesburg to Pablo Picsso. And in his late years, he even began to copy himself! It turned out, he was a 100 percent copycat! But that’s what I like about him. What he did was just like a human. He could also be vulnerable and there were times that he ran out of inspiration. Awkward situations he had gone through make it a common ground for me to relate and identify with him. He did copy, but what’s wrong with that anyway? He did found himself in this process and that’s the most aspiring part.

This is exactly what I want to do

Books are alive. I realized this from the very beginnig. It is alive as if it has become part of the writer’s soul. People passes away, but their books are a living evdience that they had once left there tracks on this earth. In this sense, books become part of them, and they become part of the books. And I would especially take the priviledge to record the books I encountered and in aonother way, the people I encountered. I’ve always wanted to write my own stories but somehow, I feel like my inspirtion aren’t ready to soar since my experience is limited. So why not read other people’s books first and share it with others? Reading is steping into someone else’s mindset and the resharing process is pulling myself out of the story and in the end, me myself becomes a filter. What I write afterwrds will be a sort of recreation as well as reflection of my own. This is to me the essence of reading and the reason I am confident of  what I am doing now.
