Good winter wood - hidden away in the Canadian wilderness is this stunning chalet by ACDF Architecture. âChalet La Petite Soeurâ overlooks the vast Lac Ouareau and provides 2 very distinct areas to hideaway from the extreme outdoors. One warm, wooden and cosy, the other cool and minimal. Feels kind of schizophrenic, but in a really good way.

Soho Loft |Â Nusla Design
A minimal interior design located in Soho, New York, designed by Nusla Design. The building was formerly the silver factory for Tiffany & Co. jewelers. Given the significant history, it was important that the original details were maintained and restored while updating with newer elements and functionality. The dropped ceiling was removed, the double-hung wooden windows were restored and the brick walls were exposed. New wide board floors were treated using a traditional Scandinavian process. The industrial aesthetic, including the black steel windows and large custom steel panels for the bedroom wall were also a nod to the history of the loft. The clean modern lines against the uneven historic lines of the walls and beams against the new clean white floor and white walls provides a sense of serenity.
To contrast with the unfinished white walls and the raw concrete tiles, the bronze tombac and concrete kitchen from Reform adds texture and richness. The full-height book-matched marble wall in the kitchen complements the rich bronze of the kitchen and also elevates the space adding a hint of luxury within the industrial space. The loft is perched at the back of the building and is surrounded by yards and trees, we maximized the openings for the existing windows and added four new window openings in the rear wall and also two skylights in the roof. The natural light flowing into the apartment contributes to the airy atmosphere. The apartment contains two separate large bedrooms with bathrooms en-suite. The floor plan consists of a large open living room with a dining area at one end and an opening living space at the other.
David Maurice of LTD Architectural designed the award-winning âBack Country Houseâ. Itâs a stunning retreat located in the settlement of Puhoi, New Zealand. The property is a reinterpretation of the countryâs backcountry huts â simple shelters found in the wilderness that can be inhabited by the general public.

House in Chofu |Â SNARK
AÂ minimal interior design located in Tokyo, Japan, designed by SNARK. The Tokyo prefecture, Chofu City, where this second-hand condominium is located is a lush green commuter town close to the Tama river and the municipal park, and access to central Tokyo as well. There is good access to the Japan Alps owing to the proximity of Chofu Interchange on the expressway. The architects designed a house for a couple on a corner suite on the fourth floor. From there they can view Mt. Takao on the west side on a sunny day.
In the renovation this time the designers took the mountain room to expand, took the place to live three-quarters of the year, and adjusted the balance of the size of the room to make the house that will be the base camp connecting mountains and cities. The mountain room was opened as a place to allow various activities such as maintenance of gear, preparation of mountain climbing, gathering with mountain friends, not just a gear storage place by expanding to a size more than double. All furniture that stores the gear were made of lauan plywood with rough details that allow for tough usage and made to induce usage other than storage by keeping the volume down to the waist height.
The place to live was gathered compactly within the living, dining, kitchen, and bedroom. The efficiency of air conditioning is increased without obstructing the line of sight to the opening in three directions with the frame door that separate the place to live with the mountain room. The furniture separating the kitchen and the bedroom was made a little higher than other furniture and arranged so as to enclose the bedroom. In this way, although it is a one-room layout, they planned to adjust the relationships of neighboring places with fittings and furniture to live comfortably.
