Visited my grandfather's abandoned home today in pyeongchang, not many people have the privilege to have this kind of time capsule experience. He had scrolls and scrolls of calligraphy that he had been practicing for years on end, full of iterations of different poems I could not read. I need to have this sort of fervor and find this kind of joy in my creativity and be prolific even when I am feeling empty.

thank you for your mistakes because 

im sure hemingway didn’t get it right the first time

thank you for your half page kisses that never got the meaning quite right

for your fingers that never held mine with an author’s grip

for the empty cliches that made me rather trite

because ive learned to nurture, to draft, to revise –

crossed out every one of your letters, 

every fingerprint you’ve ever left

ripped out the binding that kept it in place

and scattered pressed flowers, 

warm hearts, 

and soft hands in between the pages

this is not your work anymore
