I can’t sleep ever since I realized there’s still no fanfiction pairing Hannibal Lecter and Castiel in 2025. Honestly, I’m shocked how has no writer been intrigued by the idea of a story or dynamic between them?
Isn’t it fascinating to imagine how their interactions would unfold, how the plot would twist around their opposing natures? Just think about the conversations ayered, slow-burning, tense, and philosophical.
Castiel, the angel disillusioned by God not because he stopped believing, but because blind obedience began to feel like complicity. Created to serve without question, he eventually started to ask the most dangerous question: Why? Through the Winchesters, he learned that goodness isn’t always obedience. He still clings to a sense of purpose, of love, of righteousness but he’s haunted by the cost of it all.
Then there’s Hannibal so far removed from faith, it’s almost theatrical. He doesn’t deny the existence of God; rather, he scorns Him. To Hannibal, if there is a God, then He is cruel, arbitrary, and powerless to stop Hannibal from playing god himself. He takes what he wants, shapes his reality, and administers his own brand of justice. There’s something blasphemous yet elegant about how he views the divine: not as something to be followed, but something to be mocked and maybe even surpassed.
Now imagine them in the same room.
Castiel, still aching for grace, still trying to hold on to what remains of his faith and morality standing before Hannibal, who would dissect that ache like a delicacy. Would Castiel see in Hannibal the version of himself he fears becoming? And would Hannibal see Castiel as a beautiful contradiction divine, yet fractured something to study, to provoke, perhaps even to unravel?
I don’t know what the exact story would be but I do know that it would captivate me entirely.
