Bee Gees start in Australia, formed in 1958 but recording starting in 1965

They return to the UK in 1967 and sign to a label that adds 2 new members, Vince Melouney on guitar and Colin Petersen on drums. (Melouney would leave in 1968)

In 1969 the Bee Gees, sans Robin, record their 7th studio album, Cucumber Castle, during which Petersen is fired.

Petersen goes on to form the band Humpy Bong in 1970.

Tim Staffell, member of the band Smile, leaves his own group to join Humpy Bong.

Staffell's departure leaves the remaining members of Smile –guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor– without a singer or bass player.

Freddie Mercury, friend of Smile, joins as their new leader singer.

New band is renamed Queen.
