“Dear dad,

Do you remember when I was around eight years old, and we went fishing, to the beach, to the cinema and, oh, all the long car rides? 

Well, me neither. Because those things never happened to me. They happened to all of my classmates. Never had I even one chance to spend time NORMALLY with my own father. 

FUNNY, isn't it? How I'm complaining about this now? But I complained about it back then as well. I would often pull your sleeve and ask; "Can we do something fun too? Like everyone else does?" But in your world the word ‘FUN’ was forbidden. 

It took me some time to understand that your opinions wouldn't change. And when I finally realized that, it was already too late. I had already wasted days, weeks, months and years even, to beg you to do something with me. 

OH, do you remember the first time you raised your hand up, about to hit me, but you didn't? What about when you actually hit me for the first time? But listen, I'm lucky. Because I don't remember it. But the more I try to think about it; I'm sure I cried, and I'm sure mom cried too. 

What about when you heard I was going to debut? You were happy. But later I found out you were happy only because I was going to be famous, and you could tell everyone about how your son is 'famous and talented as hell'. 

When I got hospitalized, mom told me you often visited me. Could it be that you were actually worried, like normally A FATHER should be? After all, I would've been very worried if it were you. 

Well, I slept for a long time. Two whole years, it was. Of course I had no idea if you were visiting me, but when I woke up, I remember; you were there. Sitting next to the hospital bed, holding mom's hand.

It took me some time to get back on my feet. Literally. At first I failed basically at everything. I couldn't even walk for some time. Mom helped me a lot. She told me a lot of stories about what happened while I was... well, asleep. But when I asked you if anything special had happened to you or your company, you never gave me a proper answer. All you said was; You're not my son, my son is a SINGER. 

I'm sure at some point you might actually stop thinking of me the way you've been thinking of me for a long time. Maybe, one day, we might actually be able to go fishing, to the beach, to the cinema. But right now all you need to know is that, unlike you; I'm forgiving. I haven't fully forgiven you yet for all the things you did, but when that day comes; I will call you for sure. 

AH, not that you really asked; But I'm healthy, happy and I have a lot of people around me. I've finally found some good friends. And these are friends that you can't take away, unlike you took all my childhood friends. 

What else is there to say? Oh -- take care of MOM. She loves you a lot. Keep loving her too.

              There are too many of you, so I’ll just address the letter like this. I wonder if some of you will be surprised to know I consider you a best friend, I wonder if some of you won’t want that. I’m not sure, really. I’m never really sure when it comes to you all aside from one thing, a thing that you’re probably sick to death of me saying — but I’ll never stop saying it. 

               I love you. 

              Bet you were expecting that somewhere in this letter, right? Maybe not so soon but best to get it out of the way. Did Kaname scrunch his nose up? Did Vince gag? Did Maxie roll his eyes? Eri might’ve smiled along with Yolin but Lia, Lia I’m not sure. Whatever your reactions might’ve been I hope that you all know I mean it, I’ve always meant it & always will. 

              A n y w a y … 

              Honestly, I’m not too sure how I’ve found myself surrounded by you miserable bastards. I sometimes feel that I stick out like a sore thumb because our minds work so differently ; then each of you do something sweet or creative or funny & I’m reminded that it might not be such a bad thing, after all. You’re all weirdly wonderful in your own ways, I feel very lucky to be your friend & a part of this group because I get to hear your opinions & see all the cool things you can do. I love that. I love hearing your stories & planning things with you all. I’m very lucky, which is why I sometimes feel… Bad.

              Lying. You know I do it, I know you know. I hope you don’t mind that I’m not always honest ( I find it quite hard to lie to you all, if that’s any consolation ), & if you do mind I hope you know I lie for very good reasons. Gross reasons. Gross, personal, reasons that would make you all sigh & roll your eyes again, but good reasons. I wouldn’t do it otherwise because you’re all important to me. Very, very important. 

               Are you ready to hear why you’re all so important? … Oh, I don’t think you are. Sit your asses down & get comfy, this is gonna take a while.

               Kaname is important to me even though he probably pisses me off the most (Vince, you’re a close fucking second ). Always challenging us, pushing us to do better & his little round about ways of showing he cares is sweet, isn’t it? My precious Ototo. I do enjoy pissing you off too, it’s terribly fun. Thank you for letting me be your friend, even if you deny it. I always enjoy listening to what you have to say, even if most the time it’s hurtling insults my way.

               Eri is important but, honestly, I don’t think I even need to say this for you or Maxie. Everyone can see how especially gross I am with you two, but Eri, is my pillar of support & someone I can have complete faith in, always. You’ve always protected me & stood by me, I hope that you realise how much I adore you. Thank you for sticking by me, thank you for trusting me, thank you for being my friend. 

               Maxie, adorable-&-he-knows-it-Maxie. Biggest tsundere fuck I’ve ever met in my life, but my favourite. Our little group wouldn’t be the same without him because he’s so annoyingly brilliant at so many things, isn’t he? It’s amazing to watch him play an instrument. Him & his ‘take no shit attitude’ is brilliant too because after a while it sort of applies to anyone who dares to give shit to his friends as well. He’ll deny it, but he would drag someone so hard if they tried to fuck with us. Hoo boy, they’d regret it.

               Vincent. Motherfucking. Pierce. When we first met I never thought I’d be writing a letter about my best friends, the people I cherish the most, and you be on that fucking list. I’m glad you are though. You’re so much fun, you big, lanky, goofy idiot. I’m not even sure that I’m deserving of your friendship but I’ll have it for as long as you’re willing to give it, because I love you just as much as everyone else. Thank you for forgiving me.

               Well, I’m sure you were all expecting me to get emotional & sappy. I’m quite predictable that way, aren’t I? I hope you don’t mind.
