YONGYI is an UNKNOWN year old PANSEXUAL, MALE-PRESENTING, HE/HIM/THEY/THEM, here in Firebrand City. People say they look a lot like LEWIS TAN. They are JUST but can be CLOSED-MINDED. They are an ANGEL SUPERIOR in Firebrand and are DEPUTY COUNCILMAN.
BIOGRAPHY:
Yongyi had been on earth for over a thousand years. He was too restless for heaven and felt he could do more on earth.
For hundreds of years, he was stationed in the Middle Kingdom, watching as dynasties rose and fell. He was instructed to keep watch on the various leaders, ensuring their decisions were all human-made and outside of the influence of demons.
While Yongyi didn’t originally understand why he was only to interfere in celestial events, he eventually understood that humans needed to learn to exist on their own and that angelic interference could cause more harm than good.
He watched as leaders made the same mistakes over and over again, never learning from them. In that time, he learned of human fallibility and his sympathy for them decreased. Nevertheless, all living things were God’s children and it was his job to protect them all from the fallen and hell-born.
Thus, he watched, battling the occasional demon here or there throughout the centuries.
On the many mundane years where he had nothing to do, he often resided in Buddhist monasteries, protecting them and teaching them. Every generation or two, he would earn himself a human reputation as a wise teacher and rubbed elbows with people from all walks of life, whether they were a lowly merchant or the son of heaven.
Nevertheless, no one could live for centuries like that and not feel hopelessly lonely. Although his duties always took precedence over anything else in his life, he had fallen in love a few times. Those relationships never lasted long and he always withdrew from them, knowing that his duty would make it impossible to give them a fulfilling love.
When the Qing dynasty fell, Yongyi decided to move on from China and explore more of the world. He ended up in the Americas and resumed his watching, always vigilant for demonic influences.
At the outbreak of the human and supernatural war, Yongyi decided to return to heaven, not wanting to act without instructions from his Master. Since he had been gone for so long, his celestial family demanded that he stay and take a break. God agreed that it was not Yongyi’s place to interfere and sent other angels to deal with the war.
Yongyi stayed in heaven for longer than expected. When he finally returned, the world was not the way he left it and suddenly humans knew of his existence. He no longer had to hide but his hands were still restrained, unable to help or hinder.
God sent Yongyi to Firebrand upon his return to Earth. The city was now crawling with demons and God wanted a strong hand in the city in case further conflict erupted.

Yongyi’s name means “eternally just”.
The angel is trained in various styles of Chinese martial arts and has never been defeated in battle.
Yongyi dual wields two jian swords and it’s very rare that anyone sees him without them.
Unless his wings are getting in the way, Yongyi doesn’t hide them in Firebrand. He’s proud of being an angel and wants everyone to know where he stands.
Yongyi lives an ascetic lifestyle. He doesn’t indulge in anything, whether it be food or bodily desires. All he needs is a shelter over his head to protect from the weather and he is content.
Due to his ascetic choice, Yongyi typically wears the same modernized black hanfu every day and his material possessions are limited to what little he has collected in his tiny and modest bachelor apartment. If he ever needed anything, he could always return to heaven.
Despite having to live among them, Yongyi has no patience for demons and wouldn’t hesitate to point his sword at them if they annoy him.
