i think that men approach women with an act. literally all the time. and i think itās not until theyāve either gotten what they wanted from you or a fair amount of time passes before that act starts to dissolve and you get to see what type of man youāre really talking to. which is why i donāt even consider trusting a man until i see what heās like when he stops telling me what it is he thinks iād like to hear. not even a little bit.
he might be nice to you, sure. maybe he compliments you a lot. gives you a lot of attention. thatās all fine and good, but what is he like when heās angry about something? when the two of you disagree? when you arenāt available for him whenever heād like you to be? when you deny him of something he asks of you? what then? for me thatās what i always pay the most attention to. thereās no shortage of men who would find me beautiful and say so. there are countless men who would be willing to give me the kind of romantic attention that i may be interested in. i need to know whatās beyond all of that. how does he handle his anger? does he know how to communicate effectively? does he make you feel as though you owe him something in exchange for his attention? i know so many girls who talk to men, think theyre nice or whatever, and then however many days or weeks later he flips like a switch and heās awful. thatās not the fault of women, but itās a big part of the reason why i never approach relationships with men recklessly. because once they stop telling you what they think you wanna hear or doing things they think will impress you, their true colors really start to show. and no offense? not to be rude? theyāre usually not worth it sticking around to see it. thatās just how i approach it š¤·š»āāļø

I love how in Black Panther MāBaku makes a big deal of his peopleās ideological commitment to primitivism, them promptly leads Nakia and company into a throne room with fluorescent tube lighting. This suggests one of two things:
1. Itās only vibranium-based technology he has a problem with, and everything else is just for the Aesthetic; or
2. Fluorescent tube lighting is considered too primitive to count as modern technology by Wakandan standards.
Maybe both!

me: *leans in close so that i am whispering urgently into ur ear* steve rogers became a superhero solely because he was a brave, selfless, compassionate man. dr. erskine chose him because he saw that steve was a good man who understood the responsibility that we as humans have to care for each other, especially those who possess the power and strength necessary to defend those who do not. the serum made him bigger and stronger but nothing changed on the inside because he already was captain america in his heart- he already was a man prepared to fight and die to protect others and for what he knew to be right. steve rogersā superpower is and always has been his extraordinary love for humanity and his belief that as long as you can fight for what is right, you must because the good and the light in the world is worth fighting and dying for. steve rogersā inherent goodness is what makes him a hero above all other things

the reason that carol (2015) and the handmaiden (2016) were snubbed by the academy of motion picture arts and sciences but call me by your name (2017) was not is because the idea of women living without men and/or exacting their justified revenge upon men makes men and patriarchally conditioned women so uncomfortable that they would rather see a grown man sleep with a teenager. in this essay i willĀ
