13th June 2009 was the first date that was neatly written on the bottom of a polaroid that was strung up on the wall, along with a countless number of others. It was written in black sharpie or some form of black permanent marker. The Polaroid was quite dark, signalling it was nighttime, with the brightest thing being a bleach-blonde haired boy who was laughing as he hugged a teddy bear the size of him. The smile that was on the bleach-blonde males face was genuine and it was his first date ever. He and his ‘date’ went to a fair where they went on rides, played the game, pigged out on food. At the end of that night, the two walked along the beach, the waves crashing against their bare feet and lower legs as they left their belongings in a reasonably safe space. The two laughed and danced in the ocean as they had the best night of their lives. The brunette he was with was only 15 while John was 16. Little did the two knew that that date was just the start of it all.
Looking at another Polaroid, 1st July 2009 was scribbled in black marker. The picture was bright, the sun was shining and illuminating a brunette 15-year old who was smiling while looking away from the camera as if to hide his face. It seemed to be taken on a pier. The boy looked beautiful. His sleeves covering his hands. It was the pairs third date and the bleached blonde boy had just asked the beautiful brunette boy to be his boyfriend. From behind the camera, the bleach-blonde boy looked at the brunette in awe as he snapped a photo. The brunette was giggling as he pouted at his boyfriend. The two laughed at each other as people around them stared and silently judged. But the couple didn’t care. So what if they were young? They were in love. The two played in the arcade while battling each other on games. Running up and down the pier and even skipping, hand in hand. The two had a great 3rd date and the brunette was couldn’t be happier.
Remember when the brunette couldn’t be happier? Well, fast forward to a polaroid where 5th January 2010 was scribbled in black marker. The brunette appeared to be holding the camera as the bleached-blonde boy kissed his cheek. The moment seemed so full of happiness and love as the two stood in front of the Eiffel tower. The couple decided to go away for new years with the brunettes family. The two seemed so in love it was pure. The two had been travelling around the streets of France for the day. The two were joking around a lot but for the most part, they were just enjoying their time together.
29th April 2010 was the next date to be looked at. The picture was of the brunette boy sitting at a table surrounded by friends and family. He looked as if he was about to blow out the cake that sat in front of him with a large set of number '16’ candles. The brunette’s face was illuminated by the flames from the candle. His cheeks were puffed out as his blue paper crown laid adjacent on his head. Despite it being the brunette 16th birthday, he only had a small party with just friends and family. It was perfect, as the brunette laughed with his close friends and spent the night with his boyfriend where they cuddled and watched The Office. The couple was so happy. Despite the ups and down the couple had had over the time they stuck together and were happy to be with one another.
Years worth of polaroids hung up but 25th July 2012 caught the eyes of most. It was a picture of a hand with a silver diamond ring on the bleach-blonde males finger. The male wore multiple rings, but that ring meant something more. An engagement ring. A ring that meant so much to the couple. A ring that meant they would be spending the rest of their lives together. It was the Americans birthday and he and the Canadian had travelled back to Missouri, the birthplace of the American. He was excited to see his family as well as show his, at that point, boyfriend around. They had gone on a walk around. With the bleach-blonde boy showing the brunette his favourite places. Before they were about to head back to the older parents home, the brunette got on one knee and proposed to the love of his life. THAT day, THAT one specific day was the best day of their lives, as they could now call one another each other their fiance.
21st September 2013 was the year of the wedding. The Polaroid held an image of the pair walking down the aisle with confetti and petals being thrown over them. The smiles on their faces were enough to light up the universe. Finally, the couple had married. It only took a year after the proposal to save and commit. Their wedding was perfect. It was outside on a beach, with friends and family cheering them on as the walked hand in hand down the aisle and towards the car to go to the airport. They planned to go to Australia for their honeymoon.

"John, Come here,“ the Canadian called out as he stood in the doorway to their living room. The American snaked his arms around the younger male as he watched their daughter look up at the polaroids that were strung up along the living room wall. The pair smiled as they watched the 5-year-old look at the photos and giggle. Jaren escaped Johns grip as he walked over, picking up the little girl and laughing.
The brunette girl laughed as she hugged her dad. "Dada, you scared me!” she pouted. “I’m sorry, princess.” Jaren laughed as she had her arms around the Canadians neck. John walked over and hugged the two before smiling widely.“Daddy, what’re all the polaroids for?” she asked, causing John to chuckle. “Savannah, we already told you. It’s all the memories of me and dada before you came along.” He said as he kissed Savannah temple.
Savannah smiled as she pointed to the Polaroid camera that sat on the coffee table by the strung up polaroids. “Take another photo dada, take one of all of us!” she said enthusiastically. The couple looked at each other and nodded, John, grabbing the camera and turning it to face the family. They took a photo and watched as the Polaroid came out. Savannah made grabby hands to the polaroid as John shook it. The bleached-blonde male laughed as he grabbed a black marker that was on the table and wrote on it before handing it to his daughter.
Savannah looked at the writing as she raised a brow. “What does it say dada?” She asked innocently as Jaren looked. “It says, 'The Smith-Keyes Family, 19th May’” He said as the family hugged. Savannah smiled as she looked over her parent’s shoulders. The 5-year-old giggled as she looked at the polaroids once again, she was happy she had John and Jaren as her dads. But John and Jaren were even happier to build up their polaroid memories with their beautiful daughter, Savannah.
