Gustave CANNOT keep his promises.

He promised a lot in life - promised to run from white hair, to be brave on the expedition, to continue when one fell - yet Gustave could never quite follow through. It was one of the flaws to the engineer.

It’s not that he meant to intentionally, not all the time, but the man’s actions spoke louder than the words he just spewed out at times.

So imagine the surprise when Gustave promised to look over Verso, to make sure Verso was safe and didn’t end up throwing this second chance away. And imagine the reaction when Gustave kept that promise, stuck to it like the holy words of engineering. Like the blueprints of his inventions.

Gustave promised to keep Verso alive… and he did that.

Theo is almost the embodiment of “I’m not a violent dog, I don’t know why I bite.” in a strange and twisted way.

Because he’s not a violent person; Not at heart. He doesn’t want to kill, he doesn’t want to hurt people. He doesn’t want his claws to sink in to people so deeply he watches the life drain from them.

Obviously we know WHY Theo did hurt those around him from Season 5. He was an innocent child who got promised a life by ‘people’ who were powerful. But why him? Why choose Theo out of all the other kids out there? Yknow. He doesn’t know why he was chosen, he doesn’t know ‘why he bites’.

Theo really… he’s a victim of manipulation, a puppet forced to embrace violence as a defence and a means to survive.
