Was looking around to see if there were colleges that had closed their doors or listed their campuses for sale just to browse and there's something going on here
Like 370+ up for sale in the United States, there must be some sort of quiet extinction event going on with the more niche, out-of-the-way colleges. Covid and online learning probably started it and Trump defunding everything is hastening it, its becoming a ghost town out there.
And they're also getting no bites it seems, this place in Maine (with an additional 224 acres) is assessed at $26m in value, but its list price is $5m, its sat on market for three years already so you could probably bid lower and they'd take it. I presume its because the market for such places is also other small educational institutions which are suffering badly from the same trends that forced these places under.
It feels like an opportunity, like you can do a lot with this. Its an entirely walkable, self-contained small town. You have residences, administration, services and utilities, dining and minor shopping outlets, a gym, a library. Labs/classrooms/equipment facilities can either be kept as they are or converted into entrepreneurial ventures, paying off a $3-4m loan seems easily feasible if you are a moderately successful online venture/not dependent on locality for your business.
These spaces could become intriguing projects for communal social and economic experimentation, a far more interesting use than just paving over it to make way for a golf course or data center, or letting it rot until an academic institution comes knocking.

here is your daily reminder to COMMENT ON THE AO3 FICS YOU READ! it goes such a long way, especially if it’s a multi-chapter work and you can only leave kudos once. ANYTHING is an acceptable comment—emojis, keyboard smash, screaming, in-depth analysis! i promise you, the writers want it ALL
taking my isopod on public transportation
one thing i am quite grateful to Brian David Gilbert for is the phrase "If you needed ME to tell you that... I'm glad I told you that."
it has been etched into my brain for the past six years, fundamentally altering how i consider knowledge gaps held by others, as well as myself. people usually need to be told stuff before they can know it! that's how knowing stuff works! this is an extreme example played for laughs but it's a legitimately helpful philosophy!!
Israel systematically targets the health of pregnant mothers and infants in Gaza. This is a reality every parent in Gaza knows. It has also been confirmed repeatedly by others. Pediatric healthcare professionals in Gaza have been bravely speaking out about how Israel is currently using restrictions of formula into Gaza to torture and kill Palestinian babies.
…you are so wise — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/3cFvVj2
ketchup is a sports drink is NOT the hot take i was expecting on my dash today

A teeny tiny embroidered bead* lizard for my jacket!
*no actual beads were used but I figure if I can crochet a bead lizard I can embroider one
please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
pick up a fucking pencil and DRAW.
HEY SEE THIS??? THIS IS A SCAM.

IF THIS WERE A REAL THING, THEY WOULD HAVE TALKED ABOUT IT ON THEIR STAFF PAGE, NOT A NEWLY CROPPED UP OTHERWISE BLANK BLOG.
THEY WOULD NOT BE TAGGING RANDOM PEOPLE IN THE REPLIES.
DO NOT GIVE THEM ANYTHING.
