you got up from the breakfast table, “i’m gonna go change,” you angled your head towards the door of the bedroom, “also, bucky i have some activities planned for today, so you should too.”
he nodded, picking up his plate and utensils.
four bikini options were laid out in front of you. what am i going to wear? subconsiously, you wanted to look good for bucky, or any other hot guy that happened to pass by you. but mostly bucky.
your options consisted of the floral bikini you wore last time, a lavender colored one, a sage green bralette bikini, and a light blue triangle bikini with a tropical flower.
you chose the lavender triangle bikini, it fit pretty similar to the floral one. you felt confident in how you looked, your hair still a bit messy from sleep. you slashed some tap water on it and ran your fingers through it. on top of your bathing suit you threw on a cute little linen white skirt and a flowy tank. a bit of your mid section showed, enough to induce looks but still look casual.
you quickly did a light bit of beach makeup, sprayed a bit of perfume, grabbed your beach towel and got out of the room.
“bucky, the room’s free,” you called out, preoccupied with vila, kaiya and sol’s texts.
“yeah, ok.” he replied, drying off the last of the dishes.
you packed a bag for the both of you. towels, sunscreen, water, snacks and extra clothes were what was shoved into an insanely small beach bag.
“bucky, i need an extra change of clothes for you,” you called out to the room, “we’re probably gonna get dirty.”
he grunted in reply, walking out of the door in a matter of minutes. he sported a fitted black tee with those short ass swim trunks. you know the ones that show off a guy’s whole leg. the shorts displayed his muscular thighs, along with a tattoo of a snake biting a butterfly. he threw a ratty gray-blue towel over his sholder.
how come you never noticed this tattoo?
now at this point it was becoming noticeable to him that you were inspecting him, maybe even checking him out.
“why are you looking at me like that,” he turned to face you.
“i don’t know, i just never noticed your tattoos.” you glance shifted from his eyes to a new tattoo you spotted. it kind of looked like a quote, “the snake one is pretty cool.”
his face lit up, “thanks, i recently got these yin and yang koi fish on my arm.” he showed the inside of his arm. the tattoo itself was a little bit swollen and red but you probably couldn’t tell from afar.
you only had two tattoos, one emily dickinson quote on the inside of your wrist, and the second a simple line art of flowers and leaves down your spine.
“i saw another one on your other arm, what does it say?” you asked, not trying to probe.
“oh yeah! it’s an emily dickinson quote, my sister rebecca loved her poetry.” he said, a gentle smile lifting his rough features.
“no fucking way, i have an emily dickinson quote too,” you said, a bit excited that he had something in common.
“what quote is it?” he asked.
“unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality.” you recited, having the line already memorized.
“that one is one of my favorites, mine is ‘dying is a wild night and a new road’” he repeated off of his arm, “i forgot it was there for the longest time.” he said this with a bittersweet expression.
“i didn’t know that you had a sister,” you replied
“yeah, i don’t know, i don’t usually talk about her a lot,” he said, his features fell gracefully, “she passed in a car accident a few years back.”
you rubbed the spot where your dickinson quote was, “i’m sorry,” you said, looking up at him. his moonstone eyes shifted uncomfortably.
“yeah she was the best,” he said softly, “but, anyways let’s get going. i don’t want to be late for whatever you have planned for us.”
he passed you his towel to put in the bag, then led the two of you out the door. you had ordered an Uber, so the driver was already waiting for you when you got to the street. it was a small car, so the two of you were kind of squshed together in the backseat.
many bumps and “sorry’s” later you arrived to kythnos. lyra helped you set this up as well as a few other tourist-y things to do for the rest of the week. you paid the driver before getting out.
you both stepped out of the car and admired the view. the mediterranean was breathtaking, especially here. it was clear, yet turquoise, practically begging for you to jump in.
“scuba diving! what do you think?” you turned to bucky, asking for his opinion.
“yes, this is amazing,” he said, his sunglasses already on, “thanks.”
you led bucky down to the shore where the instructor was about to start demonstrating how to put on the gear, etc.

you took your shorts off and put on the gear. you set your clothes in the bag and placed it closer to land, so the bag would not get wet.
bucky put on his scuba gear too, and followed after you.
the boat was close to shore, tied to a pole farther to the entrance to the beach. you hopped in, bucky following after you. there were already a handful of people in the boat. three sisters, you assumed, were sitting next to each other, talking animatedly amongst them. one had light brown hair, another dark brown, and the other had pink and brown hair. you could tell they were speaking spanish. next to them were an older looking couple, the man had a salt and pepper beard and the lady had red hair with streaks of gray and white peeking through. they were talking too, but a bit more calm than the three sisters. the intructor from the shore started pushing the boat, and then hopped on. the boat engine started and the instructor began to tell the group about the islands, what fish there are, all things interesting.
you gazed out onto the water, the sky was a bit dull, but you checked the weather before and it said it was going to clear up.
the first stop to the diving trip was gorgeous, the water was turquoise and so clear. there were countless fish and sea animals.
the second stop was the same, but different fish, and the water went deeper, and the water was cooler.
the final stop was insane, there were statues almost but they were 50 ft underwater.
the tour ended around 3pm, the two of you eager to eat lunch.
you ate quickly at a street food place, and then walking back to the little bungalow.
“so…” you asked, “what did you think?”
“that was perfect in everyway,” he replied, “would relive again 10/10. but, now its my turn for a surprise trip.”
“oh god,” you sighed, “what does that mean…”
“not much, just a little dinner,” the two of you reached the door, “i found it online, and it seems like its perfect.”
“okay,” you had to put a little trust in him, after all he couldn’t be awful at planning.

you adjusted the cotton sundress you had on in front of the mirror, trying to get it to fit properly. the part holding your boobs up didn’t sit properly and the straps were too big.
“at this point you should just take the mirror with you,” bucky remarked.

you woke up to the rattle of airplane turbulence, finding your head resting comfortably in bucky’s lap. how you ended up there, you didn’t know. what you did know was that you were going to get off of him as fast as you could. which caused you to smack your arm against the hard plastic of the folded-up table of the chair in front of you.

you inspected your arm, now in the safety of your seat. bucky woke up, presumably because of the loud noise you made.

“so… this is it,” you mumbled to yourself, getting out of the taxi. the small, yet extravagant one-bedroom mini house on the blue water seemed out of this world to you. it was just a typical white pavement and bright blue lining of greece. it sat on a dock, looking out onto the clear crystal water of the mediterranean.
“wow,” was all bucky managed to say.
you grabbed your suitcases out of the trunk, dragging the heavy bags into the surprisingly huge bedroom. there was only one bed, but thank the lord it was king-sized. It was decorated with a few pillows and a simple white duvet. the bathroom was gorgeous with white and blue tiles and cute small plants hanging out in the corners. the modern yet homey look of the room had you falling in love with the place.
“okay,” you said, “first let's unpack, and then we can decide to either chill in here or go to the beach.”
“i think i’d rather go to the beach,” bucky chuckled as if the other option was insane.
you opened your bursting suitcase, shoving your clothes into the drawer, while he neatly put his clothes in organized lines. another way the two of you were entirely opposites.
you quickly grabbed the first bathing suit you saw. it just happened to be the string one that soph said made you look “scrumptious.” it was a soft pink bikini with a flower pattern on it. before leaving to walk to the beach you looked at yourself in the full-length mirror.
damn, i do look pretty scrumptious. the bikini seemed a little smaller than usual around the boob area, but it didn’t matter too much, you were in greece!

it took around 4 minutes for the two of you to get to the beach by foot. when you got there, both of you gasped at the sprawling beaches of white sand and bright blue water. as a breeze whisked around you, the aroma of the salty ocean made you grin.
you dropped your stuff and sprinted towards the water, leaving bucky to eat your dust. once you got deep enough you jumped off of the ground and dived into the clear water. it felt refreshing and just the perfect amount of just everything. except for him. if it was just you and sol, this vacation would’ve been absolutely perfect. but he’s here, here to ruin everything.
after swimming around for a bit you decide to go back up to shore to tan a little bit. you brought a new book to read on this trip, and you might have been a bit too enthusiastic about reading it, but whatever.
“back already?” bucky asked, not bothering to look up from the book he was reading.
“isn’t that obvious?” you responded.
“so cold you might change the weather, ice queen.” bucky snapped back.
“i don’t need you ruining my vacation, james,” you replied cooly.

you found a small little cafe that sold delicious greek food and the most perfect coffee ever. according to the lovely lady on the street, of course. you had asked her if she knew any good places to eat and she exclaimed “ya! ya! éla! xéro to téleio méros!” (meaning “yes! yes! come now! i know the perfect place!) (please correct me if i am wrong on this tho)
she led you to a gorgeous little shop at the top of the hill you met her on, the patio showing a perfect view of the crystal blue water below. you ordered what she told you to, the lamb souvlaki and an espresso.
“you should join me!” you told the lady, “it would be nice to have someone to eat my first souvlaki with.” you smiled at her.
she smiled right back, and replied in a thick greek accent, “i’m lyra, what’s your name?”

“i’m sorry for being kind of a dick, i do remember the time i tried to kiss you. i guess i was drunk enough to try but sober enough to remember. i don't know what possessed me to be so dickish,” he looked genuine enough. maybe he wasn’t so bad.
“thanks for the apology. i might get back to you in 5-7 business days,” you replied, and quickly followed up when a frown started to appear on his face “i’m joking! i'm joking, but thanks for the apology. i appreciate it a lot actually.” you said with a shy grin.
“you got me in the first half,” he laughed. oh wow, he finds me funny. that's a first. you smiled as a reply.
“oh! i just remembered,” he said turning to face you again, “before i tried to kiss you, you went up to me and asked if i wanted to fuck. not to mention you called me hot.”
“oh noo,” you whined, burying your face in your hands, “i did that?”
“yeah, and then you passed out,” he said, trying to hold in his laughter.
“oh um, can i ask a question?
“sure,”
“hypothetically, if you dated someone, and they cheated on you, you’d hate them. right? after the breakup, you’ve spent so much time healing and setting boundaries. and then you saw them at this party, and you didn’t expect to see them. but you saw them there. you start talking and hypothetically, of course, somehow you start making out. snogging, if you will. for like a good amount of time.” you ramble, he’s looking at you, listening to every word, “and once you’re finished you realize what you’ve done and you rush off. not to mention you told your ex that you wish you never met them. what would you do?”
he glanced at your still slightly swollen lips, “hypothetically i snog my ex who cheated on me.” he said.
“yeah.”
“if it were me i would probably go back to my ex. but since i’m giving you a good answer to your hypothetical, i would just pretend that that never happened. and when you see them, just be nice. if it seems like they’re trying to get you back, just make up an excuse for stopping the conversation.” he stated, glancing down at his drink, then back up to you, “i’m guessing this isn’t a hypothetical, though.”
“uh, yeah it isn’t,” you softly said, with an awkward smile, “but thank you for the advice.”
“no problem,” he said.
you glanced down at your watch, “oh shit!” you started to gather your things, “i have a thing tomorrow morning and it’s already midnight.” you explained shoving your phone into your purse.
“i can drive you home if you want,” he offered, “i only drank a little.”
“yeah,” you said a little distracted, “yeah. sure, thanks.” you smiled at him.
you both gathered your things and walked to bucky’s car.

“here’s your stop, madam,” he reached over to open the door for you.
“thank you so much for driving me home,” you said, reaching forward to hug him, still in the car.
“yeah. this was fun,” he smiled softly at you as you got out of the car. he waited until you were safely inside the building to drive off. common courtesy, i guess.

you picked up your phone.

you called kaiya back first.
“hello?” she answered.
“hey kai, good morning,” you said, “also why’d you and vi call me?”
“long story short, everybody who ate the food yesterday got food poisoning. so vi and i are shitting our guts out right now. we can’t go to greece like this.” she rambled, seeming stressed,
“wait but the trip to greece is non-refundable,” you said.
“exactly, that's our problem, and the flight is in five hours. do you think you could pack and be ready to go to greece in less than 5 hours?” she pleaded.
“i mean i kind of had a thing, but yeah i can pack quickly. also who’s the second person?” you asked, “because isn’t it a two-person trip?”
“that’s for you to decide,” kai said, “you can bring sol.”
“oh! nice,” you exclaimed, “sorry about your food poisoning.”
“yeah. thanks for doing this at the last minute. okay bye.” kai said.
“yep.” and you hung up.
you quickly called sol wanting to tell her the news.
“hey! sol! guess what! everyone got food poisoning at the wedding, including vi and kai. and their honeymoon trip to greece is non-refundable, sooo they told me to go and invite someone! also, the flight is in 5 hours.” you exclaimed.
“awesome! that’s great! i think i can pack quickly enough.” she said excitedly, “hold on let me
check if i can go.”
“oh shit. i am so sorry.” she said, “i have a fucking cross-country road trip to go on with my brothers and sisters tomorrow. i wish i could cancel but my parents would kill me. they said that we should still be close as adults. they paid for everything, so i guess i can’t complain.”
“oh shit. it's okay. send me pictures of the places you go to.” you said.
“bye, love you,” she said.
“love you too,” you responded. she hung up.
you called kai again, “kai, sol can’t come and all my friends are on vacation already. i don’t have anybody to go with.” you stated.
“uhh, okay i think i have someone you can go with.” she said, “be open to who it is. you two can bond on the plane.”
“okay, bye”

you waited at the airport gate, your carry-on and your backpack seated right next to you. you looked up from your phone to see the unexpected person accompanying you. bucky.
“…aw fuck no.” he said, talking to someone on the phone, and you just happened to overhear his conversation, “not her, she’s the worst person i could have ever been paired with…” you couldn’t hear the next part, he turned his back to you, “...you know how i feel about her, kai.”
he hung up and walked over to you.
is he just going to forget everything that happened yesterday!? i guess that's how it always is with him. fuck him.
“hey,” he said, taking the seat across from you.
you nodded in response, not bothering to look up from your phone.
that's how the entire waiting time was. he would ask you a question to try and break the ice, but you wouldn’t look up, or respond dryly. when you did look up, you looked bored and annoyed. when you boarded, fortunately, you had downloaded enough movies to keep you occupied. even though he was right next to you.
you were on princess diaries, your third movie, when you started to feel a bit tired, you tilted your head back against the seat. you fell asleep quickly, the smooth airplane movement lulling you to sleep.
you woke up to the rattle of airplane turbulence, finding your head resting comfortably on top of bucky’s chest. how you ended up there, you didn’t know. what you did know was that you were going to get off of him as fast as you could. which caused you to smack your arm against the hard plastic of the folded-up table of the chair in front of you.
“ow!” you exclaimed loudly, you voice echoing throughout the silent plane.
you inspected your arm, now in the safety of your seat. bucky woke up, presumably because of the loud noise you made.
“hey,” he asked groggily, “are you okay?”
“i’m fine,” you said, rolling your eyes.
“calm down ice queen.” he said, turning away from you.

“so, what are you up to now?” your newly married sister asked you, “any new girlfriends or boyfriends? anyone you’re talking to?”
“oh my god, vi!” you exclaimed, “stop getting into mine when we can talk about yours, you just got married.” you smiled. your older sister, vila, also known as “vi” to you, was like a replica of your mom. they looked the same and their personalities were the same down to the way they talked.
“shouldn’t you be with kai?” kaiya was vi’s wife. if your sister didn’t marry her, you definitely would’ve. jokingly, of course, we are pairing you with you know who after all
she was gorgeous, she looked like a goddess with warm brown skin and black wavy hair, she was kind, the type of person to pick up bugs and put them back outside, she was funny. she could turn anyone’s frown into something bigger than a smile. vi and kai were perfect for each other. you couldn’t imagine vi being with anyone else. but even if kai is the nicest person on this horrible planet, her best friend was anything but. don’t get me wrong, the guy was smoking hot. but the nasty words that spilled out of his mouth were not.
“you’re not going to eat at the buffet?” kai walked over to you two, gently bringing vila’s hand up to her lips. you strived to one day be as disgustingly cute as them.
“nope” you answered kai’s question, “i ate dinner before at sol’s house. it was her birthday and i didn’t want to miss that. but i also couldn’t miss you two getting drunk.” you giggled.
they chuckled a little bit, then kai waited for a second to say something to you.
“have you met my best man?” she asked. oh no. not him.
“i don’t think so,” that's a lie.
“let me introduce you!” she looked over at vi as if to say, is that ok? i can stay. vi shook her head and smiled. she always wanted you to meet new people.
“buck! james! bucky!” she yelled over towards the bar.
she kept walking into the crowd, tugging you along with her.
you made it to the small makeshift bar in the gazebo, only to bump into him, “kai! the party’s great,” he exclaimed drunkenly, “who’s this?”
he didn’t remember you?
“vila’s sister,” kai pushed you towards him, “the maid of honor! have a nice talk! bye,” she abruptly left, leaving the two of you just standing there until you decided to call him out.
“you don’t remember me?” you asked, quizzically.
“no of course not, i’ve never seen you in my entire life.”
you rolled your eyes, “you don’t remember when you tried to fuking kidnap me?”

alone at a bar, drinking your sanity off was not your ideal wednesday. you had just broken up with your ex-girlfriend, natasha, about a week ago, only to see her fucking another woman in the bathroom. anyways, nat wasn’t on your mind at the moment. what was going through your head was the hot guy drinking too many beers to be able to keep his eyes open. and, while your sober head overthought, your drunken head didn’t think enough.
“hey,” you drawled, prancing towards the guy, “guess what?”
“i’ll guess you’re too drunk to walk on your own.”
“noooo” you whined, “you're hot. wanna fuck?”

to be perfectly honest, the girl drunkenly talking to him was cute. no. no. no. now she's passed out.
“oh god,” he muttered, picking the girl up, bridal style, “put her drinks on my tab please too,” he said to the bartender walking out of the bar.
before leaving, he checked to see if she brought a purse or a bag. no bag, no purse. he walked to his car, just a few blocks from the bar, with an unconscious woman in his arms. great setup, barnes. he set the girl down to open the door.
he picked her up with ease, setting her down in the back seat. after a few minutes, her eyes fluttered open, still looking as drunk as ever. he walked in, holding a plastic water bottle. he meant to bring the container of plastic costco water bottles into his apartment after shopping, but he got too lazy in the end. thank god he was too lazy that afternoon.
“hey,” he said, “you kinda passed out at the bar, and i didn’t want anything to happen, so i took you here,” he rambled, “i know that sounds kinda odd, but i didn’t want to go through your stuff without your permission.” he exhaled.
“who are you?”
“im bucky,” he smiled, “who are you?”
“i’m y/n.” she stood up to grab the water from bucky’s hands in the front seat, finding herself sprawled over his car, “sorry.”
“it’s ok,” bucky set the things down to help her get back up, “it happens.”
she grabbed the water, downing it in one go.
“can i go home?” y/n asked.
“yeah yeah, i’ll take you,” bucky said, helping her stand up to get to the front.
you grabbed the seatbelt, eager to get home. you had a little bit of trouble crossing it over you. you turned to push the buckle in and faced bucky. his lips were up against yours before you knew it. you pushed him off as quickly as you could.
“what the fuck are you doing?” you exclaimed, your hand on the door handle.
“i-i ugh, i thought that was what the vibe was,” he stammered, i guess he was drunk enough to do that.
“well you thought wrong.” you slammed the door and stormed off. every boy was the same, they all thought the world revolved around them and that everyone wants to kiss them. fucking men.
you called an uber and rode back home. you fell to your bed, falling asleep before your head even hit the pillow.

“funny.” he looked you right in the eye, “i don’t remember ever trying to do that. usually they do it first,” he remarked with a smirk.
you pressed your lips into a line at his words. fucking men.
you turned around going back to try and find your sister, only to be lost in the crowd.
“a little lost?” a voice said behind you. you recognized it. natasha. oh shit.
“what the fuck are you doing here?” you turned around to face her.
“your sister invited me,” she said with a soft smile. fucking fake ass, “i thought i’d drop by to congratulate her and say hi to you.”
“oh.”
“i’m guessing you didn’t tell her i… well, you know,” she said, taking a step closer to you.
“oh. yeah, i didn’t think she needed to know that much. plus she was super stressed with the wedding details and…” you trailed off, realizing you were telling your whole life to the person you wish never knew you at all.
“i guess you’re still the same kind of person you always were,” she reached her hand out to touch your face.
you let her touch your face, and that small part of you that missed her started to take over.
“you know i think about you every day. i miss you, and i wish i never fucked up what we had…” you moved closer to her the slightest bit. she pulled your lips to hers. she tasted like regret and cherries. she pulled you into the closest bathroom, pressing you against the wall. you pushed off of her to take a deep breath, only to dive back into the bittersweet kiss. finally, you pulled away, a longing desire for more in your eyes. you blinked rapidly, realizing what had happened, “i wish i never met you,” you whispered, natasha close enough to hear it.
