“There comes a point in many of our lives where we realize we are not strong enough to rescue ourselves.
The weight of our sin. The pain of our past. The addictions, the anxiety, the shame, the heartbreak, the regret, the hurt. We stare at the pit we've fallen into and quietly whisper, "There's no way I can get myself out of this hole."
The truth is... you're right.
The world tells us to look within ourselves. To become stronger. To believe in ourselves. To heal ourselves. But the gospel tells a very different story. The gospel tells us that salvation has never been about climbing out of the pit, it has always been about the Savior climbing down to us.
Jesus doesn't stand at the entrance of the cave and say, "Try harder."
He doesn't say, "Clean yourself up first."
He doesn't say, "Once you're worthy, then come."
Instead, He stretches out His hand and says, "I am the way." John 14:6
Notice that Jesus didn't merely point to the way. He is the way.
When we have no strength left...
He is the way.
When we've ruined our lives with our own decisions...
He is the way.
When shame convinces us that God could never love us again...
He is the way!!
Some of you reading this have been trying to escape your darkness through success, relationships, money, entertainment, religion, or self-improvement. But none of those things can carry you into the light.
Only Jesus can.
The beautiful thing about our Savior is that He specializes in rescuing people who cannot rescue themselves. That's why He came. He didn't come for those who thought they had it all together. He came for the broken, the weary, the sinner, and the lost.
Lift your eyes.
The Light is still shining.
His hand is still extended.
His invitation will not change.
Jesus is still saying, "I am the way."
Will you trust Him enough to take His hand?”
