Hey everyone! I’ve been apart of The Outsiders fandom for almost 12 years, and there’s honestly nothing more that I love than discussing it. Like a lot of you, I read the book in middle school English, and it completely changed my life. I fell in love with the characters and story, and my life has been changed every since.

I saw a post a long time ago by this woman who works in healthcare, and she talked about how she was taking care of an elderly gentleman who was like 80-something. His older brother came to visit him in the hospital pretty often and still referred to him as his baby brother. She fondly recalls the time she overheard them talking and he said “Well I’m in charge and I still gotta take care of you. Mom said so.”

Anyway, I see the Curtis brothers’ futures and it is bright.

davis told this story on soc saturday once but i think a lot about when he was on for soda and forgot pony doesn’t speak after “you still reading that dang book?” so brody just sat there like ….🤨😟😠?????!? waiting for him to ask what it’s about. it took davis a solid 6 seconds of silence before finally going HUH? 😀 and getting the hint. he said it as if it was pony’s fault too which was the icing on the cake. fortunately for davis because it was a flub on his part, this is still the most perfectly coded soda/pony interaction i have ever seen.

just in case you didn’t believe me about the solid 6 seconds part… the silence truly was deafening.

Sodapop Curtis who wants so badly for his brothers to just be happy. Who splits apart fights and comforts Pony from his nightmares and rubs Darry's back after a long shift.

Who tells Darry he's allowed to feel, he's allowed to grieve, he's allowed to not move on right away. Who begs Ponyboy to say something, do anything, just don't go numb. Feel something.

Who, in the meantime, forgets he's allowed to feel too. At least, when it's not behind closed doors. Forgets he needs to take a break too, between work and splitting up his brothers' fights.

Sodapop Curtis who is stuck. All he wants is for his brothers to be happy, so he works at it and puts in his time and energy for it. But meanwhile, he's working himself to the bone, while he's begging his brothers not to. A living hypocrite, ain't he?
