   Kouga huffed. His pride hurt far more than his body was. Gaze falling to the floor, he extended his arm to her, allowing her to better reach the gashes that had been carved into his skin. He didn’t think he needed it, but he found it difficult to tell her no.

     “I don’t know why you’re making such a big fuss,” he said. “I’ve been through a lot worse than this. You that used to cleaning up after that half-breed muttbag?”

   Kouga bristled at Inuyasha’s words, a low growl emitting from his clenched teeth. This was the worst situation he could think of. Why did he have to tag along? Right... Because of Kagome. Couldn’t trust dog-breath over there to keep her safe. He was always getting her in trouble. The others in that rag-tag troupe seemed a little more intelligent, at least. Hopefully they could keep Kagome safe until he got back to her.

   His thoughts of concern were interrupted by the yammering of the half-breed. Bumping into him like that was almost enough to push Kouga into a fight, but he knew better. There was something else in that cave with them, and they didn’t know what it was. ‘Til then, it was best to keep things under control as best they could, if he could manage that. That Inuyasha really knew how to push him...

     “Listen, mutt,” he growled, again. “You may be the hot shot when you’re with a bunch of humans, but you’re with a real demon now, and I’m the one who actually leads a pack. But if you wanna walk right into whatever’s waitin’ around for us, by all means, go ahead.”

   Kouga blinked at the human with a deadpan face. Had to give her credit; at least she tried to crack a joke.

     “...Guess you could say that,” he said, trying to be at least... somewhat encouraging. His stomach sounded off, again, this time growling even louder. His pack had been on the move for a while, and he hadn’t gotten the chance to stop and hunt along the way. While the rest of his pack had run off to find their own food, Kouga opted to go the easier route.

     “Hey, you got any of that weird food with ya?” he asked, smirking as he reached for her backpack, ready to rummage through it without bothering to await an answer.
