Sometimes I forget how unhinged TOS was, and then I get hit with this on a rewatch.
forgot how heterosexual this show is
@ parents who dont let their kids dye their hair: why r u so afraid of ur kid looking cool
Alternatively: why do you think you have the right to control another person’s body?
Hair dye is a great litmus test for parental control, because none of the usual arguments against youth autonomy apply to it, so the only rationale for forbidding it is control for its own sake.
“What if they regret it when they’re grown up?” Irrelevant, it will have washed out/grown out by then.
“What if they regret it between now and when it washes out/ grows out?” Then they will gain valuable experience about decision making and potential for regret, which will be useful to them throughout their life.
“They can’t get a job.” Irrelevant!
“People will judge them.” They’re a kid, people will judge them regardless of how they look.
“People will judge me.” Okay, you admit the truth then, this is about you.

We won't have sex because we're both workaholics
yesterday I was at gamestop and a man in full Data cosplay walked up to the front counter and I did a double take so hard I nearly broke my neck. So, he walks up and the cashier just casually smiles and goes “How’s it going, Data? What can I do for you?” and Data goes, “I am doing quite well. I was just wondering when you guys would have Destiny 2 in stock.” This mans……literally did not smile or emote at all. He went all in. The cashier was totally non fazed. I, however, was completely shitting my pants cos ya’ll DO NOT understand how good this dude’s cosplay was. It really looked like fuckin data teleported into the middle of game stop in rural ohio to ask about motherfucking destiny 2.
The only time he broke character was when I was stealthily trying to stare at him and thinking about asking for a pic when he was walking out. This dude. Looked at me, completely expressionless. and WINKED at me. Someone collect ya mans he wildin lmfao
The wink isn’t even really ooc I think he would totally do that
I can’t believe Data violated the temporal directive just to buy Destiny 2

I was going through The Rapture and discussing it with officialcroissookie and it occurred to me that Jimmy asleep in front of the television is a parallel to John asleep in front of the television in the pilot…
This establishes a parallel between Azazel and Castiel, both showing up and turning the Winchesters’ and the Novaks’ families upside down.
Both Azazel and Castiel technically have consent to enter the lives of the Winchesters and the Novaks, but of course it’s a very debatable consent since neither Azazel of Cas explain the situation completely to Mary and Jimmy.
Both Azazel and Castiel separate a family: Mary gets killed, leaving her sons alone, Amelia gets abandoned and later leaves Claire, but both re-enter their children’s lives on an occasion where they sacrifice themselves for their children (Mary in Home, Amelia in Angel Heart). John stops being a decent dad, so basically is taken away from his sons, Jimmy is taken away from Claire.
But, of course, Azazel is on Lucifer’s side and wants the apocalypse to happen, Cas joins Dean and Sam in their mission to stop the apocalypse. Azazel corrupts Sam with the demon blood - basically sends him to hell both metaphorically and indirectly literally since Sam decides to solve their apocalypse problem by sacrificing himself and jump into the cage - and also indirectly causes Dean to go to to hell. Cas heals Dean from hell, and later heals Sam from the consequences of his staying in hell by taking Sam’s illness on himself. Azazel shatters them, Cas puts the pieces together again.
The difference lays on what John and Jimmy are (not) watching on the television. On John’s tv there are soldiers fighting in the trenches, on Jimmy’s tv there is a non-threatening person dressed in white, talking about how he was injured/felt sick while repairing a vehicle and was rescued by a man that he describes as “an angel”, and on the screen we see the scene, that includes puffs of smoke shaped like wings around the rescuer. Then we see a shot of the earth seen from space - a clear metaphor of Cas’ point of view towards the planet that he’s going to save. John, because of Azazel, forced Dean to become a soldier in a world of mud and blood, Castiel saved Dean.
The Subversion of Dean’s Masculinity
Caught wind of an open-discussion article that’s basically being dominated by casual heterosexists and decided NO SIR, THAT WILL NOT DO and brought some ship-free logic to dump on their heads. NB, it does lean on/reiterate a few other pre-existing meta posts by other fans. Reblarging here because why the hell not.
(Dean Winchester’s sexuality seems to have become a pet issue of mine lately. Pansexual mythology buff excited about the prospect of a lead character in his favourite paranormal show being revealed as canonically bi? Who’d'a thought!)
In discussing Dean’s sexuality you first have to understand that he’s the embodiment of several thematic forces in SPN: the ordinary human hero (vs Sam as the supernatural hero), the fixed underclass (vs Sam’s upward mobility and class-passing), practical/mechanical intelligence (vs Sam’s academic intelligence), the soldier/good son/Michael archetype (vs Sam as the individualist/rebellious son/Lucifer archetype), the nurturer/caregiver (vs Sam as the son/younger brother), and especially relevant to this article, traditionally masculine (vs Sam’s more modern sensitivity).
Now here’s the thing. SPN is extremely subversive when it comes to the examination of class and masculinity, and these two things are deeply intertwined.

Y’all ever think about the fact that the only time Dean would be able to see Cas’s True Form was when he was a demon?
I don’t know what’s more angsty (ie fun) to consider: the possibility that, after he became human again, he could no longer really remember what Cas’s True Form looked like, no matter how hard he tried; or the possibility that he could remember, but now he has to live with the fact he’ll likely never see it again
(Also fun to consider — the fact that Dean might remember what his own demonic true form looked like, and when he thinks about it, maybe in comparison to Cas, maybe not, he can’t help but wonder if that’s what his soul looks like, if that’s what Cas saw when they first met in hell and still sees every time he looks at Dean)
