Make Up Is My Art 💋................ I was so lucky to have crossed paths with the beautiful Sara- a professional make up artist who shared her story with me. Having left school at 16 & became pregnant after getting into a drama school. She had no choice at the time but to drop out of something she was so passionate about. It was then at the age of 21 that Sara decided (despite doing an amazing job raising her two sons as a single parent) that she felt that there was still more she wanted to do with her life. It all began when Sara was escorting her Son to and from casting jobs via The Sylvia Young Theatre School that she stepped in for a photoshoot when the other artist had walked out. The rest is history. Sara loved the experience & decided to train as a makeup artist, but it was very expensive to learn so she had to get part time work as well as chaperone her son to castings. It took her five years to complete the training due to finances. Sara had no child care or extra cash to do this but was very determined & believes if where there is a will there is a way, & that the universe always worked wonders for her. Sara now has a long history in the industry having worked on editorial shoots for the likes of Kate Moss, David Bowie, Adele, Amy Winehouse just to name a few. Having struggled as a young mum to pursue her passion Sara decided to set up her own business a ‘Pop Up School’ to give aspiring artists the confidence to pursue their dream job at an affordable price & hopes to get support from the government to take this forward. Sara’s mantra is ‘follow your dreams and don't let go of it, believes no one is unemployable’. Sara is an artist at Mac & leading coordinator for look good feel better charity for women going through chemotherapy. Women have worn makeup for centuries, as far back as ancient Egypt times, when they used paint for eyeliner. I believe make up is a form of self-expression and outlet of creativity much in the same way that clothing is, which can damage ones confidence if we totally rely on it as a way of expressing ourselves. We females need to know that we are much more than the skin we live in. Our personality, passion and reason we exist should surpass a bit of eyeliner & a fab dress. However, it is undeniably a way of expressing ourselves & for many it makes us feel good. Be yourself..... Be true to yourself.... I hear and read this a lot. Is it ok to continue being your true self if your behaviour towards others or self is harmful? Our true self is who we really are when we let go of the pressure and judgements we've allowed to mould us. Is who we naturally are the person without the masks and pretentiousness? Even though I'm quite a determined person, I've learned over the years that when I stopped worrying about what certain people thought of me or trying to please them I was more at peace with myself. I don't have regrets I just started to realise that it's my life and I'm going to live it to the full.
