I got 2 questions for ya, feel free not to any of them if you don’t wanna.

1. Could you hypothetically hack the game to remove the Prof Oak program? Would the whole game just dissolve into anarchy or would it just be glitchy and crash a lot(due to a critical npc disappearing)

2. Was Elias and Max’s body ever found? You’d assume they were but you said Elias has been in the game for ~3 years now and someone probably would’ve touched the console at that point, right? Idk, I’m just making an educated guess on these both.

Oh boy. If Max’s Dad reacted that way, what about Elias’ parents?

Does Max enjoy having a mom in-game?

Speaking of her, do the NPCs get smarter with each reset or do they remain largely the same?

Why is Max unable to remember what happened (how he died)? Is it because of how he died or is it just because he hasn’t been trapped in the game as long?

On that note, would Max theoretically be able to alter the game like Elias can after being in the game long enough, or is that just something Elias can do since it was originally his game?

// OAK is the person that resets the two of them each time. He's not malicious, just a program within the game that tries to keep things stable and working however it can. It doesn't really understand that Elias and Max are different people to the bodies their souls got saddled with. Max finds and interacts with OAK much more often as he naturally sees the professor as a trustworthy man, but Elias knows better for his own sake to fear, and stay far away from him. It's why he forced Max to hide with him once he noticed OAK was nearby in the story. He knew OAK would try to make him forget, or plan something.

// As for Max's abilities.. It's less direct control, as Elias has already usurped most of the power over their shared purgatory, but subtle things he can do that wouldn't normally be possible. Tanking hits (like the fire burst from Elias' original cyndaquil), having unending stamina to keep running for ages, etc. If he had the chance to become fully aware, he wouldn't be able to stop Elias from what he was doing, but he'd be a notable, and vocal ally.

I’m curious about Max’s family life. What’s was his family like? Did he have any siblings, or was he an only-child like Elias?

// The only family Max had was his father. His mother died very early on, and he became concerningly protective of Max over the years. The time alone caused him to become a very impulsive and at times violent man, leading Max to fear what he could do to him or the people he knew.

Something I’ve been wondering about for a while since first reading Your Friend Silver: Did Max ever actually view Elias as a friend or was he just putting up with him?

Also was Max friends with the guys who bullied Elias, or was he just trying to avoid getting bullied himself by distancing himself from Elias?

I will keep what you said in mind, but I could’ve sworn you mentioned him having an older sister who gave him his DS originally.

As for Max, if another Player did enter the picture, he’d likely be relegated to Daycare Boy for the duration, right? I feel like he’d enjoy that more.

..Although I may have considered giving him siblings in the past? My memory aint the best but I think I did ultimately decide to say he was a lone child in the end.

He'd been the main character for so long he can't seem to stay on script at all, but his tone is close enough to the real thing that OAK doesn't interfere. He could either tag along with you or check in consistently. With certain stimulus (situations, words, sounds, etc) Max can be more aware than Elias can at any given time, mainly because he's docile. He's more of a companion throughout a playthrough, sometimes recounting fond memories from his life (that may get more real and less scripted over time).

He never did mean to abandon Elias. He didn't have the best father, and he knew what could happen should he have found out his son was being bullied.

So, following up on my previous ask.

Another hypothetical:

I was thinking of a couple options for the supposed ‘thief’.

The first was that they were actually the child of his older sister.

The second was that they were a freshman student at his old high school who could update him on the goings-on there. Like if they built a memorial for him and Max.

I’ve just been thinking about these kinds of storylines all day. Could lead to wholesome stuff maybe?

// Elias is an only child canonically, so the second option is probably more likely. You're free to do what you want with a fan creation but keep that in mind because that factor added to his lack of social skills when he was alive.

His main thing now is that he's incredibly stubborn, and as I said, always assumes the worst. He'd likely not care nor want to hear what happened to the other people there, who bullied him, did the very act that made him leave, and didn't care that he disappeared and moved on quickly.

Granted, an important thing to note is that his anger has warped his memory of the past. He sincerely believes that there was no search party for him, nor that anyone cared that he went missing. He can't remember faces, he can BARELY remember voices. OAK's readjustments and resets have been slowly wearing his mind down over the years. Max is significantly less damaged due to not remembering what happened to him most of the time, but Elias is actively trying to drag him down with him.

You'd probably need some SERIOUS socio-psychological skills to be able to poke through his mindset. He finds no point in stopping nor improving. He's dead and suffering forever, so why bother?

Apologies in advance for the long ask.

Could you explain what you mean by Elias ‘manifesting outside of games’? Like, does that mean he can appear in the physical world and do poltergeist shenanigans?

Also… hypothetically speaking, what would happen if someone stumbled upon Elias’ old DS, cleaned it up and started playing on it? How much of the player’s experience is he able to control, if he’s bound to the device?

I imagine he needs to go back periodically to ‘refuel’ so to speak (Kinda like Pete in CBS’ Ghosts show).

Given the fact that Ethan is "taken", this hypothetical new player would be forced to play as Lyra. There's also the option to look at Elias' old save file - which has every badge, and an absurdly high playtime (which mostly ticked up due to the fact he's been concious in there. The game counted that as active playtime.)

Depending on if you start a new game or investigate Elias' save, he'll behave somewhat differently.

On a new save file, he'll behave as though he's been reset (which is because he has, of course.) Ditzy, clumsy, and not exactly like a normal Silver, but the safest possible form of Elias for a player. If you treat him well, he may very well consider letting you be as you are once he wakes up. Elias.. isn't exactly used to people being kind to him, especially after his death, so being nice after a reset is the best way to build the smallest amount of trust with him. HOWEVER, the key is that your tone doesn't change once he remembers who he is. As a last side note, he's able to hear mic input from the DS and respond to it accordingly, so be careful with your words around him.

If you investigate his save file, you may just be able to speak to Elias right off the bat. This isn't reccomended. He isn't stable naturally, and will likely assume the worst in you. He won't exactly be happy to know another person has taken his prized DS. This is where a lot of his Needlemouse inspiration comes into play, because he'd put the player through a series of different games to distract them while he finds a way to get out. A timer at the top of the screen is his staple. Once it reaches zero, he'll be waiting. A screen only protects someone on the other side for so long, you see, and he wouldn't mind finding another thief to take down with him.
