“Don’t know if that’s a short joke or not, but it’d also be cool if you put the dishes away after your done washing them. I don’t know if it’s you or Clint, but it’s getting annoying.”
“You think with your advanced technology crafting something for such a task would not be difficult. But I will approach Barton if you wish.”
◆ —— AT WORLD’S END QUOTES STARTER PROMPTS.
❛ What are you doin’? ❜ ❛ Sorry. I just thought with the Captain issue in doubt, I’d throw my name in for consideration, sorry. ❜ ❛ Shoot him! ❜ ❛ Cut out his tongue! ❜ ❛ Shoot him and cut out his tongue, then shoot his tongue! ❜ ❛ You will listen to me! ❜ ❛ And what the enemy will see, they will see the flash of our cannons, and they will hear the ringing of our swords, and they will know what we can do! ❜ ❛ Think you can outrun the world? ❜ ❛ Sometimes things come back mate. We’re livin’ proof, you and me. ❜ ❛ There’s never a guarantee of comin’ back. ❜ ❛ It’s our only hope. ❜ ❛ The world used to be a bigger place. ❜ ❛ World’s still the same. There’s just less in it. ❜ ❛ Dying is the day worth living for. ❜ ❛ Will you marry me? ❜ ❛ I don’t think now’s the best time! ❜ ❛ I love you. I’ve made my choice. What’s yours? ❜ ❛ I’m a little busy at the moment! ❜ ❛ And that was without even a single drop of rum. ❜ ❛ You’ve seen it all, done it all. ❜ ❛ That’s the trick isn’t it? To survive? ❜ ❛ It’s not just about living forever. The trick is still living with yourself forever. ❜ ❛ There’s not been a gatherin’ like this in our lifetime. ❜ ❛ I owe them all money. ❜ ❛ It’s always belonged to you. Will you keep it safe? ❜ ❛ I leave you people alone for just a minute and look what happens, everything’s gone to pot! ❜ ❛ Do you take me to be your wife, in sickness and in health, with health being less likely? ❜ ❛ Just kiss! ❜ ❛ Did no one come to save me just because they missed me? ❜ ❛ Four of you have tried to kill me in the past. ❜ ❛ Four of you have tried to kill me in the past. One of you succeeded. ❜ ❛ You’ll have loads to talk about while you’re here. ❜ ❛ Don’t tell me you didn’t enjoy it at the time. ❜ ❛ Don’t need you, you scare me. ❜ ❛ Who are you? ❜ ❛ Where does your allegiance lie? ❜ ❛ I have a ship. ❜ ❛ I have no sympathy for any of you feculent maggots and no more patience to pretend otherwise. ❜ ❛ I wash my hands of this weirdness. ❜ ❛ We are an unimaginative lot when it comes to naming things. ❜ ❛ I once sailed with a geezer lost both his arms and part of his eye. ❜ ❛ You’re free. ❜ ❛ It’s a heavy price for what’s been done. ❜ ❛ Let us not, dear friends, forget our dear friends the cuttlefish. ❜ ❛ We must fight. ❜ ❛ Send this pestilent, traitorous, cow-hearted, yeasty codpiece to the brig. ❜ ❛ I’m losing her. ❜ ❛ Mate, if you choose to lock your heart away you’ll lose it for certain. ❜ ❛ You may kill me, but you can never insult me. ❜ ❛ That’s just maddeningly unhelpful. ❜ ❛ Why are these things never clear? ❜ ❛ Stab the heart. ❜ ❛ Don’t stab the heart. ❜ ❛ My sweet, you’ve come for me. ❜ ❛ You were expecting me? ❜ ❛ It has been torture, trapped in this single form, cut off from the sea. From all that I love. From you. ❜ ❛ Ten years, I devoted to the duty you charged me. ❜ ❛ And finally, when we could be together again, you weren’t there. Why weren’t you there? ❜ ❛ Would you love me if I was anything but what I am? ❜ ❛ I do not love you! ❜ ❛ Many things you were, but never cruel. ❜ ❛ You have corrupted your purpose, and so yourself, and you did hide away what should always have been mine! ❜ ❛ I will be free, and when I am, I will give you my heart. ❜ ❛ And we will be together always. ❜ ❛ If only you had a heart to give. ❜ ❛ I will be free, and when I am, I will give you my heart, and we will be together always… but if only you had a heart to give. ❜ ❛ Why did you come? ❜ ❛ The last thing they will learn in this life is how cruel I can be. ❜ ❛ My heart will always belong to you. ❜ ❛ Who is this traitor? ❜ ❛ Keep telling yourself that, darling. ❜ ❛ Do you fear death? ❜ ❛ You have no idea. ❜ ❛ You’ll see no mercy from me! ❜ ❛ I’m a heartless wretch! ❜ ❛ You’ve a cruel mind. ❜ ❛ Cruel is a matter of perspective. ❜ ❛ You’ve always run away from a fight! ❜ ❛ You never told me any of this! ❜ ❛ It was my burden to bear. ❜ ❛ I miss him already. ❜ ❛ He was quite charming, wasn’t he? ❜ ❛ This is madness. ❜ ❛ This is politics. ❜ ❛ You can fight, and all of you will die… or you can not fight, in which case only most of you will die. ❜ ❛ You murdered my father. ❜ ❛ He chose his own fate. ❜ ❛ We will fight. And you will die. ❜ ❛ Your friends appear to be quite desperate. ❜ ❛ You and I are no strangers to betrayal, are we? ❜ ❛ Close your eyes and pretend it’s all a bad dream. That’s how I get by. ❜ ❛ You may throw my hat if you wish. ❜ ❛ You know my name… ❜ ❛ He can’t help me. He won’t come. ❜ ❛ I know you. ❜ ❛ He/she spoke of you. ❜ ❛ He/she won’t save me. ❜ ❛ He/she won’t pick me. I wouldn’t pick me. ❜ ❛ Tell him not to come. Tell him to stay away. ❜ ❛ Tell him it’s too late. ❜ ❛ You’re in my way, boy/girl. ❜ ❛ Are you dead? ❜ ❛ Are you dead? I think I am. ❜ ❛ You have to be lost to find a place that can’t be found. ❜ ❛ You’ve doomed us all! ❜ ❛ Don’t be so unkind. ❜ ❛ You may not survive to pass this way again, and these be the last friendly words you’ll hear. ❜ ❛ I propose an exchange. ❜ ❛ You have no right! ❜ ❛ I understand the burden you bear, but I fear that cause is lost. ❜ ❛ No cause is lost if there is but one fool left to fight for it. ❜ ❛ You chose not to tell me. ❜ ❛ You thought I loved him/her. ❜ ❛ If you make your choices alone, how can I trust you? ❜ ❛ What is it you want most? ❜ ❛ I cannot be summoned like some mongrel pup! ❜ ❛ There is more to you than meets the eye, isn’t there? ❜ ❛ Yes, I lied to you. ❜ ❛ No, I don’t love you. ❜ ❛ Our fates have been entwined, but never joined. ❜ ❛ You be the cur that led these wolves to our door? ❜ ❛ My actions were my own and to my own purpose. ❜ ❛ There has definitely been a breakdown in discipline aboard this vessel. ❜ ❛ It’s too late to earn my forgiveness. ❜ ❛ I trust you to know your place. ❜ ❛ We shall have a magnificent garden party, and you’re not invited! ❜ ❛ You add an agreeable sense of the macabre to any delirium. ❜ ❛ The only way for a pirate to make a living these days is by betraying other pirates. ❜ ❛ Drop your weapons, or I kill the man/woman! ❜ ❛ We shall go to war! ❜ ❛ There’s an evil on these seas that even the most staunch and bloodthirsty pirates have come to fear. ❜ ❛ This is no longer your world. ❜ ❛ Him at peace. ❜ ❛ Death has a way of reshuffling one’s priorities. ❜ ❛ You are free to be with your charming murderess. ❜ ❛ What else have you not told me? ❜ ❛ She/he could not be trusted. ❜ ❛ You loved her/him. She’s/he’s the one, and then you betrayed her/him. ❜ ❛ You betrayed her/him. ❜ ❛ You loved her/him. ❜ ❛ She/he pretended to love me. ❜ ❛ I kept it safe for you. ❜ ❛ Will you ever forgive me? ❜ ❛ The code is the law! ❜ ❛ Abandon ship! ❜ ❛ It’s like you don’t know me at all, mate. ❜ ❛ I had nothing to do with your father’s/NAME death. ❜ ❛ That does not absolve me of my other sins. ❜ ❛ There’s nothing left. ❜ ❛ I’m sure there must be a good reason for our suffering. ❜ ❛ And some men offer desire as justification for their crimes. ❜ ❛ I offer simply my desire. ❜ ❛ Pretty speech from a captor, but words whispered through prison bars lose their charm. ❜ ❛ It’s never too late to learn. ❜ ❛ A dangerous song to be singing for anyone ignorant of its meaning. ❜ ❛ And what makes you think I need protecting? ❜ ❛ We’ve come to rescue you. ❜ ❛ My freedom was forfeit long ago! ❜ ❛ If you want to survive, you need what I offer… ❜ ❛ Forgive me. ❜ ❛ He made me Captain. ❜ ❛ You are not my Captain. ❜

’ This is… this is great news! ’ ’ Hey, get away from the ledge, you’re gonna get hurt. ’ ’ This one has the “S”. For “Super”, just like your cousin. ’ ’ I just can’t hear you over the loud color of your cheap pants. ’ ’ I’m the hero. ’ ’ Oh, God. Is that smell you? ’ ’ I see you share your cousin’s appetite for wanton destruction. ’ ’ Three showers and I still smell of reek oil. ’ ’ I went from superhero to eco-terrorist in a single bound. ’ ’ I am not doing that interview. ’ ’ How can you be so sure? ’ ‘ I watched it happen for years with your cousin. ’ ’ Reading glasses and a good slouch? ’ ’ I see a city full of people who need help. Who need a hero. ’ ’ Oh, no. I’m sorry. I meant to say who are you? ’ ’ Trademark pending. ’ ’ Have you lost your mind? ’ ’ What were you thinking giving interviews? ’ ’ It was more of a private conversation that’s being published. ’ ’ What’s next? A book deal? A reality show? “Keeping Up with the Kryptonians”? ’ ’ When did you even call him/her? The second I left? ’ ’ I made a promise to your cousin. If anything ever happened to you… ’ ’ I’m just trying to keep you safe. ’ ’ It wasn’t supposed to be this way. ’ ’ Your story… Your story is just starting. ’ ’ I’m just dealing with an escaped alien prisoner. ’ ’ You’ve spent more time in the Friend Zone than the Phantom Zone. ’ ’ I am not in the Friend Zone. ’ ’ Well… did you notice any of her/his other attributes? ’ ’ Tell me, what do you think makes her/him a hero? ’ ’ What can I get you? Or are you not allowed to drink and fly? ’ ’ I was surprised, you’re usually a little more glib. ’ ’ You said, tonight, you always build in fail safes. ’ ’ I would never barter a child’s life. ’ ’ I just can’t figure out why you did it. ’ ’ For the record, I care about everyone. ’ ’ You may have fooled this city, but I know you were behind this. ’ ’ Finally, something we can agree on. ’ ’ The fun is just beginning. ’ ’ Can you hack into hospital records? ’ ’ Easy-peasy, fresh and squeezy… ’ ’ You were really mad, at something else. ’ ’ You need to find, find that anger behind the anger. ’ ’ You let that thing get away. I thought you were on our side. ’ ’ It fought harder this time, harder. Faster. ’ ’ It’s like it knew you’d choose to save those people. ’ ’ Would you like me to call your mother a car? ’ ’ I am the sole survivor of my planet. ’ ’ You never get sick. That’s the best part about you. ’ ’ Bow your head when you approach me! ’ ’ Are you sure you want to do this? ’ ’ It’s time for us to be a family again. ’ ’ You’re gonna wish I’d died with the rest of them! ’ ’ But can you look me in the eye and tell me that you are prepared to kill? ’ ’ I’m very boring and really normal. ’ ’ So, um, I’ll just get out of your hair. ’ ’ You know, you guys could have told me. I can keep a secret. ’ ’ I know there’s nothing anyone can say to make you feel better right now. ’ ’ We are going to bring this thing in together. ’ ’ I’m not leaving you alone with that thing. ’ ’ That is not some anonymous alien you’ve brought in. ’ ’ You’re compromising the security of this entire operation. ’ ’ I would think you’d understand that better than anyone. ’ ’ It is what makes you a hero! ’ ’ That’s the difference between soldiers and heroes. ’ ’ You waisted your ammo. ’ ’ Without you, the world is a better place! ’ ’ Without me, you’d be dead! ’ ’ Please remember I would never try and hurt you. ’ ’ I hate a generic sports metaphor, but that interview was a touchdown. ’ ’ You wanna fight about it? ’ ‘ I have too much self-esteem to kill myself. ’ ’ I’m making stupid mistakes, like today. ’ ’ The public will forgive you, I promise. ’ ’ Ah, you do have a cell phone? Can I get that number, please? ’ ’ You think I wanna do this? It’s the only way to win. ’ ‘ I mean, that was terrible, but it was awesome. ’ ’ We’ve never saved anything together. ’ ’ I’ve dreamt of this moment. The two of us teaming up. ’ ’ Um, not exactly sure you have to tell them that. ’ ’ I can’t believe I didn’t see it before. ’ ’ This is it for me, this is my calling. ’ ’ The enemy has come in the guise of heroes. ’ ’ You don’t get a chair ‘cause you don’t work here. ’ ’ They have not left you, even in the face of death. ’ ’ You ever spend time inside a foster home? ’ ’ So just chill with the attitude, okay? ’ ’ How can you, of all people, say that? ’ ’ I know what you’re gonna say. I should have waited for you. ’ ’ You didn’t give me a story, you gave me a half-baked idea. ’ ’ I got the impression you didn’t want to spend time with me. ’ ’ So, I memorized that fake ID for nothing? ’ ’ I was shooting some hoops last night and hurt some ribs. ’ ’ My whole life, I have been a sidekick. ’ ’ I hate to break it to you, dude, but you don’t have superpowers. ’ ’ I have a black belt and you’re right, I don’t have powers. ’ ’ What do you have against a good old romantic comedy? ’ ’ Yeah, your punk rock phase was very strange. ’ ’ Are you slurring your words? ’

“Hey- watch where you’re going big guy. Us normal sized people don’t have the luxury of trampling over everything,” Tony said, moving out of the way as he saw Thor in front of him.
Thor glanced up briefly-- or rather, down, obviously distracted, “I apologize, man of Iron, I will attempt to watch where I step.”
“… I know you wish me to stay.” Loki dropped his gaze as he sunk further into the couch. “Would that I could.”
He was silent a moment longer, resisting the urge to close his eyes and sleep.
“You and your friends are not alone in this city. There are others, particularly in Hell’s Kitchen. A man in red armor tried to stop me from destroying a Hydra safehouse… He was unsuccessful of course, but not for lack of trying. It was somewhat impressive.”
“You would not,” a tired, but intelligent smile played across the elder asgardian’s lips, eyes not unkind.
His brother would always find a reason not to stay, that much he was sure.
“A man in red? Do not tell me someone is attempting to mimic Stark,” well, another anyway, they were never short of reports of those carrying stolen technology, "--You should rest, now. We can speak of this come tomorrow.”
He wanted to say something, to tell his uncle that despite the best intentions of the family members that he didn’t feel like they were doing their job very well. Perhaps he hadn’t felt truly safe since his father fell. It was a distant memory now, him running into his father’s arms for comfort and security whenever he felt scared.
“I don’t feel safe.” He confessed, looking down. Never mind his father being dead. If dark elves had broken through, what was there to stop other enemies from coming? Not to mention, if Shadow could figure out ways to escape the guards that followed him around constantly without a moment of privacy for the young prince than surely an enemy could evade their eyes just as easily.
“I… I’m afraid of talking to Grandfather.” Not just about that. Shadow had always been shy and afraid before Odin. When he was really little, he feared that behind Odin’s patch was a black hole that would suck him up if he was bad. Though he was assured that this wasn’t true several times by his late Grandmother. “He doesn’t seem well.”
It was moments such as these in which Thor wished more than anything that he had his brother’s ability to articulate himself, as well as to understand the thoughts and feeling of those around him. Whether his brother had used those abilities for good or not, there was no doubting his apt for situation such as these.
His nephew’s words were not as surprising as much as a weight on the aging prince’s heart. It had been many years since Thor could attest to feeling safe or even comfortable in the walls of his ancestral home, but he always put a careful effort into not allowing it to show. He had no desire to worry those here further, but Skuggi had always been an intelligent boy. The thunderer let out a slow sigh, taking a seat beside the younger Asgardian, “Do you truly believe you would be safer in any other realm in the Nine?”
Thor nodded, he had grown under that watchful gaze, and when he was of age, even trained before it, but it never felt less frightening than the days of scrambling out of the kitchen for fear of being caught, “You should speak to him. He cares for you, just as I do. --He’s an old man, and it would only further weigh his heart to feel you are lost to him as well.”
Young. Shadow had been through dark times of these past few years and he he hated being so young. “I don’t like being young.” He said. “Everyone leaves me behind, telling me it’s not safe. Amma and Papa are dead. The palace was attacked by the dark elves that were supposed to be dead. And you and Afi expect me to do what? Sit here and learn from tutors. I know that I’m not a good fighter, but I’m not helpless. I want to leave Asgard. I’m sick of being treated like I’m too young to see this or know that. Please, Uncle Thor.”
To say he didn’t fear for Skuggi would be a lie, he had hoped to keep his nephew away from the pain and darkness of war, but how could he? When they had already taken so much from them both, “Skuggi...” he paused, searching for any words that would serve to comfort the young Asgardian, and drawing a blank, “The Allfather and myself only wish to keep you safe..” but was he truly any safer on Asgard than he would be on Midgard or any other realm? “Have you spoken to your Grandfather about this?”
"Good evening, Uncle Thor."
“Good evening, Shadow. Though I must ask why you are not yet in bed.”
The boy’s eyes lit up in delight when his uncle approved his request. “I won’t!” He promised in his excitement. He moved to reach for his uncle’s hand. ”Come on, Uncle Thor. We need to go to the frozen box to get some. Have you ever had ice cream before?”
Thor took Skuggi’s hand into his, smiling down at the child kindly, “Good, I don’t wish to hear about it from him later.” he let Shadow guide him over to the freezer, “I have not, it’s not one of the things Steven nor Anthony have endeavored to have me try.”
“Why did you have to go too?”
@youreadestroyer
“I never meant to leave you. The places I ventured... were not safe for someone so young.”
"Good evening, Uncle Thor."
“Good evening, Shadow. Though I must ask why you are not yet in bed.”
“I don’t want to go to bed now.” He rebelled, though it wasn’t much. “I want to eat some of the sweet called ice cream instead.”
He knew that he should have ushered the young Asgardian to bed, and perhaps his reason for standing is selfish (it’s rare these days that he gets to be “fun”) but Skuggi could certainly use some, “Alright… do not tell Anthony.”
He hadn't meant to take this long, he had even got an early start this morning. Kissing the midgardian good morning before disappearing out the window. The day of birth was never really celebrated that much on Asgard, he assumed it was more exciting for those who did not expect to live far beyond that of a hundred years. He only knew of it's importance because of Darcy and the party she had thrown before. He had but a poorly made chocolate cake and a small gift, but he tried.-thorofthehammer
Tony couldn’t even say why, but he had this suspicious feeling when he woke up that morning that no one would remember his birthday. And so far, he was right. No calls, no texts, no one stopping by for something even as simple as saying congratulations for surviving another year. Tony tried to pretend like it didn’t bug him, but it did. Even Thor had gone off somewhere this morning, but Tony didn’t fault him for it really. Thor had a life outside of him sometimes, so he didn’t mind. But still…it felt like a really lonely day.
Trudging down the stairs and making his way to the coffee, he contemplated locking himself in his workshop the whole day and distracting himself with building and rebuilding his cars. Maybe that would stifle this feeling of being forgotten. As he stepped into the kitchen, he was immediately hit with the smell of flour and something really sugary, making him look up sleepily. “Wha?”
thorofthehammer
Tony, himself, was aware of his own stubbornness. But it’s what got him this far and it hadn’t killed him yet, so he saw no reason to try and change it. Plus, if he hadn’t been stubborn, he’d be dead in a cave back in Afghanistan still.
“You know me too well.” He hummed, smiling softly at the kisses. Thor’s beard was wet and soft from the bath, so it only tickled a little bit. “Yeah, dressing sounds good. Believe me, you do not want to soder in the nude. like frying bacon in your underwear. Bad news.”
The god’s eyes sparkled slightly at his lover’s words, he knew Anthony better than anyone, and it was a running challenge between them some days how much was too much. He paused his ministrations as Tony continued (only after an intentional, warm breath over his navel) and sat up slightly.
“Ah, there is a reason why a black smith still dawns armor, I understand,” padding over to the dresser, he took out a pair of dark grey sweat pants for himself before pausing to toss a pair onto the bed for Tony, “As you’re lover and caretaker it is my responsibility to ensure all of you is adequately protected.”
"Good evening, Uncle Thor."

Tony could be just as stubborn, especially when it came to things wrong with him. He didn’t like being weak or having problems or not being in control. So, for the most part, he pretended like he didn’t, down to lying to himself almost enough to convince himself he wasn’t wrong. That usually didn’t work out too well, which was why he was glad he had Thor now. They could both just unleash their insecurities and problems on one another, and just that could be such a relief.
“That is so a challenge,” Tony said, with a little teasing grin. He kissed him back, propping himself up on his elbow. “I’m actually starving, for once”
Thor was aware of Tony stubbornness, for it got him in trouble more often then not, as many lacked the thunder god’s patience and capacity to forgive. The man who thought himself immortal-- Anthony Stark, there was truly nothing more dangerous than venturing to convince yourself of your own infallibility. The thunderer knew that all too well.
“Perhaps; and I am certain you will rise to it,” Thor said mildly enough, holding his damp, golden locks back as he pressed a kiss to Tony’s clavicle and shoulder, to prevent the coldness from touching his lover’s skin, “Do you wish to dress first?”
brokenshadowofloki:
“Don’t be too harsh on Steve. I was the one who asked him. I was merely curious about what you have been doing and your experiences being an Avenger. I suppose that he simply found it to be an amusing moment is all.” Shadow said. “As for Heimdall, we have been talking, but not about that. The gatekeeper is of the belief that I may know some of the hidden pathways across Asgard to access other realms that my father knew. He figured that out of anyone since my father’s falling, I was the one who Papa trusted the most. Which is a shame because I always thought that Papa trusted you the most.”
“Steven is not as far above causing damage to inanimate objects as he believes himself to be,” Thor said, raising his eyebrows slightly as he looked at his nephew, “I have seen him in battle,” that did not account, of course, for the fact that the thunder god was not in battle when he broke the Barton children’s toy, but nevertheless. His mood sobered at the mention of his brother’s falling, frowning slightly, “Very few know whom if anyone my brother ever truly trusted, but do not think that a shame, the passages in and out of Asgard will be found.”
