……. What the fuck is this bullshit
YIKES
I’ll say this. The presentation of Frozen Ever After is pretty nice with some lovely animatronics, particularly the skating Olaf. It’s actually surprising they went physical with that in this day and age.
But there is no real story around here, just musical numbers. The ride is just about going up to Elsa’s castle to hear her sing Let It Go again for no actual reason beyond it being her Number 1 Hit Single and going backwards through screens. And then you just see ice fireworks over Arendelle Castle and Anna, Elsa and Olaf awkwardly singing “In Summer” for no real reason beyond “We need to get as many songs as possible in this thing”.
It’s not a book report ride like Little Mermaid was (though it does have the trolls briefly telling DA STORY OF HOW ARIEL ANNA FELL IN LOVE) but it does share the problem of trying to squeeze a full musical into less then 7 minutes like the Mermaid ride does. You hear a lot about how the old Fantasyland dark rides all try to focus on interpreting a movie through a certain perspective lens like how Snow White was focused on the horror or how Peter Pan’s Flight focuses on the wonder of flying over London and Neverland, but after being two-for-two on “Interpreting the movie through its musical numbers” rides being kinda clunky, I’m not sure if its an entirely effective strategy even with some really cool animatronic performers in both.
As far as putting Frozen in Fantasyland like they should have done in the first place goes, I feel like if hearing “Let It Go” was all they could think of for a climax to a Frozen ride, they ought to have dusted off the old Enchanted Snow Palace plans and Frozen-ifyed those. Have most of the ride be a whimsical wintery roadtrip to Elsa’s Ice Castle and let the ride end on something resembling a high note.
I was so bored just watching it! I know the Voyage of the Little mermaid gets a lot of flack for it’s lackluster story, but this was much worse. They have less time here to work and a cramped, recycled show area and track. Like Journey into Your imagination, it’s a setup for disaster.
Speaking of which, while I don’t think this ride will get the same retaliation as JII, I’m pretty sure that it will garter an average to low response ESPECIALLY to the people who are going to wait more than an hour to ride it.
PS. I wonder how it competes with the Soarin’ over the World line and if Frozenstrom is making Soarin’ a bearable wait….
I’m also surprised by just how much of it felt like “dark hallway with minor blacklighting!” going on (lengthy Figment footprint tunnel- I’m looking at you.) When the boat stops going backwards to change tracks again, it just felt…boring. In Maelstrom at least the mountain troll was a slow reveal and you could look outside while the boat shifted.
I feel the same way. Kept thinking while I was watching the videos about how many long dark scenes there are
hey..

The best part of coming to Disneyland is to hear the area music from World of Motion at Space Mountain
It was playing the old EPCOT entry music loop when I was there last week. So perplexing.
wow I love this
