âArrogant. I donât even know you, let alone trust you.â
I finally tried drawing this purple alien-shaped piece of sugar and oh my god heâs perfect for copic markersÂ
I hope you bitches like sudoku
Bioware, apparently (via snizabelle)
Liam and Jaal are both the sort of broâs who would lay on the ground with you if you got knocked out so people would think you were chillinâ

âThank you for being so patient to meet the last member of the crew, Jaal. Sage has been having some difficulties after waking up from cryo so our ship doctor has been keeping a tight leash on her,â explained Scott Ryder, smoothly walking through the halls of the hull of the Tempest towards the direction of the med bay.
âYou arenât scared of biotics are you?â he inquired gently. âOr deep scars or lacerations orâŠanything medical? Just want to prepare you for what you are about to see. Sage has been through a lot even before joining the Initiative.â
@yourjaalpal
Jaal stared at Scott evenly at the questions, his mind mulling through what he had just been asked. âHave you met me?â rang in his head, though it seemed to be in Liamâs voice. Perhaps he was spending too much time around the young human, beginning to think with a new pattern of words.
âI reside with several biotics. My mane is missing a portion. Had you not noticed?â he asks genuinely- sarcasm is a new idea to him, though heâs beginning to grasp it with interest. His whole species had been at war with their subjugators for twice his lifetime. He was part of the resistance. Very little could shock him in the ways of damaged bodies. He had seen more than his share of insides.
@yourjaalpal
Meki had previously been captured by a group of aliens easily identified by the bony armour on their bodies and placed in one of their camps alongside another group of aliens.
The hybrid wasnât sure what they wanted with her, aside from the blood sample they drew from her, or why she had been captured but she was glad she had not been around long enough to find out. Rescue came and when the other captives were released, the rescuers apparently had deemed her worthy of rescue as well or perhaps she was just being captured from her previous captors?
Meki didnât say anything at first, simply listening as the aliens around her spoke and glancing at their faces. The hybrid was waiting for her PAK to translate the language into Irken so she could understand what was being said. Well, waiting and huddling up close to one of the lamps to stay warm. This planetâs environment was not being kind to her, especially with the way she was dressed.
To say Jaal was surprised to find one of the Kettâs captives was not an Angara would not be misleading. He was not surprised that the Kett would experiment on anything sentient they managed to lay their hands upon. He expected they might find vanished settlers from the Pathfinderâs galaxy.
This little green thing, however... He had never seen itâs like. It looked like a child, with the boxy skeleton of a Stantre critter and luminous, large eyes.
He did not quite know what to do with it, but it did seem to be shivering, pressing close to the heat lamps, and that at least he could solve. The Angara walked slowly towards the creature, hunching to make himself seem a little smaller, and stretched his hand forward to wordlessly offer it one of the black blankets the humans kept in the Nomad during their excursions to Voeld.
(Â yourjaalpal ) â
Jaal is staring. The room is loud with people eating- all together for once. Itâs a celebration, theyâve put their first outpost down and the aliens are all very excited. The table is loaded with things that look outright bizarre to him, part rations and part greens, some from Cora and some from Nexus. Gifts.
Itâs not the food that holds his interest.
âRyder,â he asks, his spoon-like implement swirling the paste that is his own meal. âYou are the smallest human- why do you take twice the othersâ portions. Is this a sign of victory?â
       PASTRIES & WONDROUSLY COLORED LIQUIDS ARE STACKED ON SILVER BOWLS & PLATES.  It is customary for her to retreat to her dark dominion & eat there, because she does not like to be seen indulging in baser activities.  Yet, today, for the sake of keeping up with appearances & due diligences, she sits at the center of the table, nursing a cup of red vintage.  Swilling & sucking her teeth like any wine taster.  Quietly watching everyone interact around her, with a STRANGE fascination. Â
Gloved fingers trace the clasps of her jacket as she regards Jaal who SHATTERS Â her thought processes. Â A sign of restlessness.Â
   â Itâs not so pedestrian, â her gaze momentarily sets on his colorless paste, â Like Ms. Harper, I am a biotic.  I have a higher food intake requirement.  Humans are not natural biotics ; with use, our metabolism is sped up & like a machine, we must be supplemented in order to continue running seamlessly.  â
Jaal stays quiet a while longer, looking around the table. Itâs not as noisy as one might have imagined. The food they have eaten has, for so long, been mostly packaged rations and dry, bland nutritional packets, nobody is doing much talking in favor of exploring their choices.
Lexi, by reflection, is spending half her energy making sure nobody grabs anything theyâre physiology wonât let them digest. Drack is- eating in great portions whatever looks meatiest. Vetra is taking little pieces of everything, eating a morsel at a time. Liam seems to be trying to get to all the pastry-like things before theyâre gone.
He turns back to Ryder. âHow do you store the additional energy?â
@biotic-bitch-of-tuchanka
Jaal and his people are adaptable to temperatures, far more than humans. They can bear incredible cold with indifference. Heat, however⊠it is Jaalâs least favorite. And Elaaden- Elaaden is a nightmare. He could weather the warm, sticky heat of Havarlâs deeper rainforests, but this arid desert⊠less so.
The Angara nearly collapses against the wall when his team enters the gates of New Tuchanka, his mouth open, making a gesture akin to a dogâs pant.
âWhere can I get water?â He asks the nearest Krogan.
While many of the members of the colony werenât necessarily thrilled by the arrival of Initiative settlers following Overlord Mordaâs dealings with the human Pathfinder, the presence of the softhides was begrudgingly tolerated. Among those not entirely content with the increased immigration was Drau Saraka, who on that particular day, had been reduced to guard duty. Demeaning ⊠but necessary. Every krogan within the colony pulled their weight. And while she made a fine show of being as vocal as possible about her distaste for the aliens, much to her chagrin, she was among those most talented at dealing with them peacefully. She was the natural choice for guarding the front gate that day. And as luck would have it, it was she the angara had the fortune (or misfortune) of running into. Sizing the male up for a moment, she couldnât help but wonder to herself if she had seen him somewhere before. He looked ⊠familiar. Which was a feat in and of itself, as so many of these âangaraâ looked so similar to her. Reaching for the metal canteen strapped to her hip, she held it out to the stranger without a single word, gold eyes still focused intently upon him.
âI thank you,â he muttered, the fold of his mouth cracking as he spoke. He rose the canteen to her, pressing it briefly against his forehead (and a second, longer time as he noted its coolness) before opening it and taking a reasonable pull.
He handed it back half-full, though he very much wouldâve liked to finish it entirely. It would not do to drink all of it. There didnât seem to be much to go around, not from what he had seen from the Nomad so far.
âWhat is the colonyâs source, may I ask?â
He had not met many Krogan aside from Drack, and he didnât seem that fond of talking about anything aside from perhaps his granddaughter. Jaal was not sure if they would be amiable to sharing information or resources, particularly when the pathfinderâs party had nothing yet to offer in return.
Lacking Light
Havarl, his familial home, warm, wet and overgrown, shone through the viewscreen of the Tempest as Jaal stretched out on his back. He stared up at the light that reflected from her playing against the ceiling of his little room.
His family used to take midday naps in a swarm of bodies. Itâs disconcerting for him to feel no weight agaisnt his chest as it rises and falls, and the lack of warmth is making it hard for his mind to settle.
Sleep refuses to come.Â
Jaal shuffles to his feet to open his door. Nobody is in the immediate area, but he can hear voices drift up from the belly of their ship- Vetra and Drack, perhaps. He lies back down with a sigh, one arm stretched to the side, the other tucked under his head. He shuts his eyes and focuses on the indistinct drift of familiar voices.
Still nothing.
Corinna found it impossible to sleep at the same time as the others on the ship. Maybe it was something sheâd always done or maybe it had something to do with the odd hours she spent fixing up the Nomad after each joy ride Ryder took it on, she wasnât sure. Either way, she found herself wandering the Tempest in search ofâŠwell she didnât actually know. Vetra and Drack appeared to be conversing with one another in the crewâs quarters again so she steered clear of there, not wanting to interrupt or overhear anything personal.
As the human wandered around barefoot she found herself in near the back of the ship, close to the meeting room just above and the two labs on either side. She noticed the tech lab open, sneaking a peek inside. Ever since it had become occupied by the new Angaran crewmate theyâd acquired she hadnât been by much anymore. In fact, she couldnât remember ever saying hello.
He was laying down, that much she could tell. Whether he was asleep or not was what she couldnât see, though she wanted to assume awake with the open door. Then again, open door could be something entirely different with Angarans? âUhâŠâ No, wait, she shouldnât bother him. Maybe he didnât hear her? She shut her mouth, waiting for any sign of movement. Just because she was bored and aimlessly wandering the ship at who-knows-what-time didnât mean she needed to go waking up the others while they slept. If he didnât move and indeed was asleep, sheâd leave; if he moved and was awakeâŠshe wasnât sure, maybe talk? @yourjaalpal
Jaal propped himself up on his elbow at the unfamiliar voice. He couldnât quite see the doorway from this angle, not fully, but he could see a knee and a foot from this angle.
âHello,â he called out, speaking slowly, tongue and cheeks lazy from the effort to sleep. âDo you need something? Am I in the way?â Someone was bound to need the lab for something eventually.
I have six drafts left due toÂ

Jaal crowds into Vetraâs space very suddenly, his arms full of colorful things. Theyâre in the tiny mess, both a little too tall, and with his broad shoulders thereâs not much room for anyone else to try and scrounge up some food with them both there.
âI would like to do a cultural exchange.â He seems a little feverish.
Having just been clearing out her inbox from the spam emails received from a certain ancient krogan, Vetra finds herself suddenly claustrophobic.  Turning and setting the datapad down, she jumps a little at seeing the angaran so close andâŠoccupied.
âHello to you, too, though Iâm gonna have to decline if youâre planning on trading more of that lotion. Â Smells too sweet.â Â
âNo, no, no,â he dismisses, clearly distracted by the subject literally at hand. Jaal empties his arms on the tiny counter beside Vetraâs console. One of them is clearly the large fruit sold in the Aya marketplace, large and yellow.
âA food exchange. I need more of these things like... popcorn.â
@yourjaalpal
âHello, Jaal.â Nhilva was doing her daily morning Tai Chi when she heard movement behind. They were not at anywhere dangerous and she only took two people with her when landed on this place. If it wasnât Jaal, it would have to be Cora.
âGood morning Ryder,â the man greeted demurely. He approached with a gentle step, curious. âWhat is this dance you are practicing?â
@farthestxpath
âRyderâŠâ His cat-like eyes are barely focusing, fluttering from one object to another, his pupils dilated to an almost round shape. He walks towards her with a light tremble, dipping down with each step as if his knees are more elastic than they should be. Kett lie dead between them and the Nomad, done already, the plane is silent, but Jaal is-
âI feel⊠unwell.â
Esther stood sighing with her hands on her hips. The Kett were adamant about interrupting their progress every step of the way. If she wasnât as stubborn as a mule, itâd be disheartening. Nonetheless, she stooped to investigate a fallen Kett when she heard Jaal address her.
He sounded out of sorts just saying her name. âJaal?â Ryder snapped upright and turned towards him. The Angaran was wobbly on his feet and she was at his side to steady him.
As best she could being a portion of his height and weight.
âI can tell. Tell me whatâs going on so Sam can have Lexi ready, as I make a hearty attempt at getting you back into the Nomad.â
âI donât know what is wrong.â He swayed into her, grateful for the help. She was small against him, smaller than she always seemed to be. The force of personality inside that young woman was so amazing- and he knew he was not the only one to see it. (Liam, for example, had all the subtlety of an amorous rancor.)
His feet dragged on the floor as they moved to the nomad. His mane puffed and deflated rhythmically as his heartbeat fluttered in his throat. The sound that pulled from him with every jostle was not a good one. It was pitched high, almost too high for human ears, distorted by the dizziness that assaulted his senses.
He collapsed against the Nomad when he reached it, breathing labored and shallow.
yourjaalpal:
âNo, not at all. I was merely- hm.â Thereâs a sound of metal hitting metal. He straightens out, his arms relaxing at his side, though his mane is still puffy. âYou took me by surprise.â
âUh huh,â she said, and quirked an eyebrow. âYouâre not being suspicious at all.â
Her eyes scanned the room, looking for anything out of place that she could see, though the most obvious place to look would be the spot he was shielding with his own body.
âYou wanna talk about it, or you want me to go?â she asked.
âI- do not wish to talk about it,â he mumbled, shifting. He crossed his arms across his broad chest, gloved hands tucking under his rofjinn. Talking about it, of course, would ruin the surprise.
He shouldâve known to work on it while Ryder was asleep.
yourjaalpal:
âOh, no no,â he chuckled, gently scratching his cheek. âShe is not your color. But her markings are. They will darken as she grows. Mine were once the color of a Fnira bloom.â
âI believe Ryder intents to- forge a bond with a man named Reyes. She is visiting them, and I am taking this opportunity to walk in the sunshine.â
She chuckled, nodding. âThat makes more sense. I bet sheâs very beautiful.â She commented, glaring at one of Sloaneâs soldiers as they passed.
âReyes is a good guy. I do some work for him from time to time. Iâd watch your back while walking around here though. Some people like to take advantage of people walking around alone.â
âShe is,â he answered, the thought of her creasing his eyes with delight. He ignored the flash of negativity from the young woman. This place had everyone on edge. That was his least favorite thing about this particular planet. ...Once the acidity of the water had been eliminated, anyway.
âI am not carrying anything of value,â he told her with a shrug. Except his weapons, of course, and his rofjiin, but the value of those was strictly sentimental. Nobody on Kadara could get any real money from his rofjiin- unless it was brought as proof that he had been killed.
...He did not so much enjoy that particular thought.
âWhy do you choose to stay on Kadara if it is so dangerous?â
