So, I wrote a Twitter thread on this, but I can elaborate more on tumblr so it’s going here as well.

I woke up after three hours of sleep from watching @swagginmun ‘s stream up to 2am talking about Season 5 and the new animation studio. I’m still upset about losing Flying Bark, of course, but i feel better about it now. Part of that’s just because I got some sleep (even if it was barely any) and part of it was something they said at the very end of the stream.

Closing off the stream, they argued that Season 5 of LMK could be disastrous. Like, jumping from acclaimed movie Prince of Egypt to….not so acclaimed movie King of Dreams disastrous. Or, this could be like going from Aladdin to it’s straight to DVD sequel, Aladdin and the King of Thieves

If you don’t know it, Aladdin and the King of Thieves is the third of the Aladdin “trilogy” and tells the story of Aladdin reuniting with his father, the king of the forty thieves, and the two navigating their fraught relationship. Now, swagginmun mentioning this movie was kind of a blast from the past for me. I had Aladdin and KoT on VHS when I was a little kid. And yeah, I loved Aladdin, but I had King of Thieves on LOOP.

I loved the story, I loved the songs, Aladdin’s dad as a character was super interesting, the world building went NUTS-like, LOOK at that turtle island on the box art and tell me that doesn’t go crazy.

Yeah, King of Thieves wasn’t animated like Aladdin. But that didn’t stop baby me from having fun. And yeah, I could argue that my grainy TV from the 70s made every movie look bad, but even watching it as an adult, I still see and appreciate the things I’d loved as a kid. Shit- the low budget TV animation had some real charm to it, underneath all the grit.

I’m gonna miss Flying Bark like crazy. Like, so crazy I’m writing about them as I prepare to graduate. But if the heart of the show carries through-the characters, the humor, the emotional story beats-then it’ll be okay that the action’s stumbling on its feet this time around.

Some kid out there might be confused or upset that the fight scenes aren’t as cool as they used to be. But, some kids might be excited to see Sandy’s powers, or Nezha’s character development, or Red Son Even Being There. And kids are definitely gonna want their questions answered. For some child out there, Season 5 is gonna be their favorite season. And maybe, against all odds, it’ll be ours too.

Shut up about the Rise of Jafar I didn’t own it on VHS and tf it doesn’t exist.

If I had a dime for every time a Lego show with some form of heavy Asian influence (whether it be set in fantasy Asia, or futuristic China) had Some big animation shift related to Wildbrain Studios, which caused a large amount of mixed reactions and negativity initially, I'd have two dimes, which isn't a lot but it's insane that it's happened twice now.

Otherwise, LEGO wouldn't have started saving money on animation... just only from now.

The fact that we found out about the studio change only after the immediate fact of the release (leak) of the trailer does not mean anything good.

Okay so saw the trailer for Season 5 of LMK and the discord that is happening. So I did a little research and here’s some information all LMK fans should be aware of.

Looks like LEGO has given WildBrain studios the license to LMK for the next 2 seasons plus a Special.

Now first off I want to say that The Vancouver studio they are talking about is pretty good, they used to be DHX and the part of DHX that did My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, along with Carmen Sandiego, so they do know how to animate 2D pretty well but it’s all rigged 2D either done through Flash or Harmony, so doubtful we will get the kind of battle animation we got from Barks studios.

PLEASE don’t stop supporting or watching LMK that’s not going to help, it’s probably already set in stone that WildBrain will have LMK for the at least the next 2 seasons plus special, also don’t attack WildBrain that’s like complaining to a cashier about how a store is run don’t do that. Also don’t go after the show runners; they are the cashier supervisors; When it comes to massive properties like LEGO, they have no control over who the company hires to be cashiers.

If you're going to complain to anyone, complain to LEGO company, (the part that has control over shows is not the one that has control over lego sets). Now don’t say things like “if you keep this studio I’m gonna stop watching Monkie Kid and buying your merch” don’t do this it will only cause LEGO to drop the show, if a show doesn’t have the view numbers or the merch numbers, they’ll drop the show regardless of the praise or complains about said show.

Question Lego about their choices, request Lego for animation the same quality as the previous season, question lego how to get flybark’s animation back.

Please reblog this, or screen shot and repost what I am saying; this is the one case where I won’t mind. I know a lot of fans are spinning right now and I don’t want anyone to take it out their annoyance, frustration and disappointment on the wrong people.

[地藏十殿 is referencing how in JTTW, Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha/Dizang is technically the boss of the Ten Kings of the Underworld.]

Li Jing: "I should take over all affairs in the Celestial Realm."

Ten Kings: "And this…is Devaraja Li Jing, the Pagoda King."

MK: "Nezha's dad?! Nezha, is your dad becoming the new JE?"

"But there is one thing that can bring the Great Sage Equal to Heaven to his knees/make him submit..."

Li Jing: "Don't you lot try to escape again!"

It's confirmed that WildBrain is animating season 5, I genuinely think the animation looks good, Li Jing's design is just giving me the itch, but the animation looks good specially the Mei and Redson scene

I am still kinda annoyed that some fans go straight to shipping just because Mei and redson are side by side. They are not going to kiss or anything,redsoh needs friends, and dragonfruit isn't gonna become cannon this season.

Their more important stuff this season than shipping anyway. Mei and redson need more development before they kiss it out.

So I thought that Li Jing stepping in to handle the Celestial Realm was a stupid idea but... I'm wondering if the people who are actually meant to be in charge, like the Queen Mother or Erlang Shen- the Jade Emperor's wife and nephew or even the Jade Emperor's daughters- have no idea what's happening.

Like, if I remember correctly of the first two (I'll need to double check), neither of them live in Heaven. They probably saw the universe near fall apart but I'm willing to bet that communications are so muddled and confused that nobody knows what's going on.

It's a perfect opportunity to take advantage.

We have another studio working alongside Flying Bark- perhaps because Flying Bark is doing the ATLA movie

We also still haven't Officially heard that the new trailer is actually legit

But if it is, it's a shift in creative teams and also potentially just for the trailer. It says additional animation, meaning it's not all different and a trailer falls under that imo
