Quinn nodded because she knew that was what they would be doing with any spare time they had for a while. That and picking out a name once they knew what they were having. Up until now they really hadn’t even settled on anything they liked or didn’t like because why pick out two names instead of one? At least this way they could focus on either boy or girl names without worrying about the other. Sure there were a few names she liked but they were still tucked away for the time being. “It’ll be nice to finally get a start on it.”
She had to laugh because that was probably true. “As long as they’re healthy, I am happy.” In the end that was all that she wanted was a healthy baby. Everything else really didn’t matter all that much in the scope of things. “But little girl things are so cute,” she protested softly though she was more teasing him than anything. “If we have a little girl first we’ll just have to teach her to keep herself safe and then all her little siblings.” Quinn didn’t doubt they would have more children somewhere down the line.
Thankfully it didn’t take long for the nurse to call them in and then it was a flutter of the usual doctor things: measurements of weight, blood pressure, heart rate and a bunch of other things they normally checked. All seemingly taking forever because she was just too excited to finally know the sex of their baby. It wasn’t until the ultrasound tech paused that Quinn frowned. “Don’t even tell me that the little one doesn’t want to cooperate.” Surely that was all it was because there wasn’t anything wrong with their baby, there couldn’t be. Instead she squeeze Sam’s hand figuring she just needed a better look to tell them if their baby was a boy or a girl. When the woman told them they were having twins, Quinn had to laugh. “Funny, now just tell us already.” Surely she was just joking because that was something everyone always joked about. It wasn’t until the woman told them they were having one of each, a boy and a girl, that she stopped to look at her. “We’re not having twins…” She told the lady feeling the color fade from her skin. One baby was daunting enough, that she could handle, two wasn’t part of the plan.
Sam was looking forward to being able to actually get a start on everything officially. He wanted to have everything ready for when the baby arrived. He was glad they had both agreed on finding out the gender so that they could do it. It was just something he wanted to make sure they were as prepared for as they possibly could be. “Yeah, it will be.” he agreed with a nod of his head. He knew that Quinn certainly had a biased want for the baby also, she was just more reluctant to actually admit it out loud. She wasn’t wrong about the little girls things being cute, and of course he was going to be just as happy if it was a little girl they were having, it was just a nice thought he had if they had a boy.
He couldn’t help but feel a little nervous as they were called into the room. Even though the baby had been developing at a pretty normal rate, it always made him anxious. He grew concerned at the way the doctor was looking at the little screen in front of them at the ultrasound. Furrowing his eyebrows, he drew his lip between his teeth as Quinn spoke. Yeah, maybe that was the problem. If it were, they would just have to get one of those 3D ultrasounds, they were usually the go-to thing next to find out the gender, weren’t they?
As the word ‘twins’ was said, on more than one occasion, Sam simply stared at the screen. Surely she was joking? Two babies? How had they not spotted it sooner? It wasn’t until the two babies were actually pointed out to him that realisation started to hit. “We-we’re having two?” As if having one baby hadn’t thrown off their plans, two certainly did. Now they had to rethink everything. They had to buy two of everything. “A boy and a girl?” He finally cracked a smile as he looked towards Quinn. At least they would both get what they wanted. Sort of. “Holy crap... We’re having twins...”
