Sam was looking forward to being able to actually get a start on everything officially. He wanted to have everything ready for when the baby arrived. He was glad they had both agreed on finding out the gender so that they could do it. It was just something he wanted to make sure they were as prepared for as they possibly could be. “Yeah, it will be.” he agreed with a nod of his head. He knew that Quinn certainly had a biased want for the baby also, she was just more reluctant to actually admit it out loud. She wasn’t wrong about the little girls things being cute, and of course he was going to be just as happy if it was a little girl they were having, it was just a nice thought he had if they had a boy.
He couldn’t help but feel a little nervous as they were called into the room. Even though the baby had been developing at a pretty normal rate, it always made him anxious. He grew concerned at the way the doctor was looking at the little screen in front of them at the ultrasound. Furrowing his eyebrows, he drew his lip between his teeth as Quinn spoke. Yeah, maybe that was the problem. If it were, they would just have to get one of those 3D ultrasounds, they were usually the go-to thing next to find out the gender, weren’t they?
As the word ‘twins’ was said, on more than one occasion, Sam simply stared at the screen. Surely she was joking? Two babies? How had they not spotted it sooner? It wasn’t until the two babies were actually pointed out to him that realisation started to hit. “We-we’re having two?” As if having one baby hadn’t thrown off their plans, two certainly did. Now they had to rethink everything. They had to buy two of everything. “A boy and a girl?” He finally cracked a smile as he looked towards Quinn. At least they would both get what they wanted. Sort of. “Holy crap… We’re having twins…”
They couldn’t have two babies. Surely it was a horrible thing to think, Quinn felt bad, but the feeling settling in her stomach was one of apprehension and dread. One baby was hard enough without adding a second one. How were they going to afford everything? Another crib alone was going to cost probably just as much as they were expecting to spend on all their baby needs. That wasn’t adding in another car seat, a big stroller for two babies, clothes, diapers... The list went on and on. She did not find it funny how they, the couple that was trying not to have kids, ended up pregnant with twins.
“We can’t have twins,” she muttered feeling the dread turn to more anxiety fed by the pregnancy hormones. “Sam...” She sighed trying to wrangle in her emotions some. Clearly they should be happy about it. Twins were a blessing. She should be happy about it and she supposed deep down she kind of was. Now they would have their little girl and their little boy; a complete little family of sorts. Complete with two fur babies too at home waiting for them.
When the nurse excused herself promising the doctor wouldn’t be long Quinn couldn’t help but feel relieved. That and she was ready to get that cold gel off her stomach. “Sam, we’ve having twins...” She repeated still trying to get used to how it felt to say the words. “We can do this.” Together they would figure it out. “I guess now we really do have to pick out a boy and a girl name.” She told him giving him a small smile. “Just think, now we have one of each.” She informed him giving him another smile. They were having twins. Now that the shock was wearing off it was kind of exciting and she could imagine how surprised their families will be.
