Teachers! Sometimes we hear students complain about how teachers go on and on about their personal matters in class. Now, donât get us wrong, we absolutely revel in the fact that we donât have to study while some of our teachers string along a never-ending tale. However, itâs important to ask, how does this play into the dynamics of the classroom?
Is talking about personal matters really necessary? Hey, we get it. Teaching is not easy! Moreover, you brave soldiers that do venture into it are often met with a hectic schedule and unmanageable students. So naturally, some of you may feel like sharing your frustrations with your class. Perhaps, youâd just like your students to listen to you talk about your family and the experiences you have.
But to what extent is this acceptable? I think we can all agree that talking about personal matters in class is generally not encouraged. However, you may sometimes need to cite examples from your life to illustrate something for your students. I think itâs safe to say that talking about your private affairs should only happen under certain specific circumstances.
