What I anticipate happening as soon as I get home
Thanks to our youth media volunteers for their work!
Youth Caucus reached consensus on supporting AIW 2 on the racist mistreatment by police of young people of color. As there was no one to oppose the motion, they did not get to speak in favor. This is what you would have heard.

Interfaith Work
Today I had the honor of listening to the inspiring Eboo Patel twice. The first speech I experienced was when he spoke to the youth at the Fun Times; Business Matters. In this speech he providing an example of how his friend began being bullied for his religion. Unfortunately, Eboo’s lack of courage as a teenager to stand up for his friend affected their relationship. Sometimes it can be hard to find the courage to stand up for what you believe. However, Eboo’s story provided an example of how the lack of support from a friend can damage a person’s spirit even more so than the bully’s actions and words. The youth had a chance to share their own stories of when they were able to practice interfaith work by standing up for an oppressed friend. The stories allowed me to reflect on my own interfaith work. Sometimes it can be easier to not be involved in disagreements. It can be intimidating to stand up for your beliefs and practice our principle of the inherent worth and dignity of every person. Each story allowed me to realize that I need to reach out to others of different faiths even if our principles greatly differ.
In the Ware Lecture, I heard later this evening, Eboo said “Always look for the resonances”. This has provided a reminder to me that although there are many differences in religions; there are often similar goals or ideals. Interfaith work can be incredibly challenging due to differing strong moral values, but it ultimately provides unity between people and allows for us to work towards common goals. Interfaith work can spark tensions over passionate issues, but once tensions are dispersed one can appreciate the resonances of other faiths and create bonds.
