Morning doodle and picking up things again after 5 months working in an office as a lead graphic designer. Was an interesting journey and one I don't regret going through. The Winding Pass

A slight breeze
A silent tease
A feeling of dire unease
. A boy turned to look into the shadowed make
Of malicious monsters lying in wake
Watching, waiting, sensing his heart in ache
. Voices called, tempting dangerous desires
As he stepped one foot closer to fires
With promises of happiness from deviants and liars
.
But he gripped his lamp, staring further into the dark
He cursed, he shouted, determined to make his mark
To have faith, believe and light his heart with a fighting spark

The Shot by sksadain Two birds with one shot and there’s but one caveat: Birds free, shooter not. — Another 2016 Haiku from Le Dad while using the prompt “cage” from the Ramadan sketch challenge. There’s a few ways I could’ve interpreted this but I think I’ll stick to how this reminded me where I came from. . We stayed home a lot and kept to ourselves back in Jeddah and in our apartment we usually get visits from birds, mostly pigeons, dropping by our windows. It was kind of a highlight of the day for us when they do, so sometimes it really felt like living in a glass cage, getting excited over small things happening through our windows. I guess my dad has more reasons to feel this way knowing how big of a sacrifice it was for him and my mom to leave Philippines for Jeddah. One side is deep with a world of reality, another a world of fantasy. Both an endless adventure and a dreamy ecstasy. . Going through concepts isn’t the easiest part of the project but it’s the most rewarding especially if you get to see it through. Illustrating the dominant sides of the brain seemed simple enough but Adam’s version here made it look effortless and complimented the store seamlessly. He peered through the pages as it’s stories engulf him. Stories from another world filling his mind to its brim. . I’m grateful to my parents in getting me to read books even if that meant paying me a buck or two just to finish one. It started with classic novels and I found it really boring then. Thankfully those books had some illustrations to keep me interested enough and from there on, I’d be hooked and be on the look for a book series to read. Majority of those were fantasy novels but one particular series really stuck with me, REDWALL by Brian Jacques. Looking back, Its amazing how a story about a group of medieval mice could really get me wrapped up. Three wolves found a purpose to serve others. For them they see all as their sisters and brothers. . Adam made this piece to compliment the cafe section of the store. We had to do the menu letterings and install them piece by piece on the wall as well, which was harder than the drawings itself. I feel bad for the BX cafe staff waiting for us at almost midnight while we gingerly stepped on the counter hoping it doesn’t break on us. He soared through the sky with his trusty book by his side. As he turned each page, his travels went out far and wide. . We showed this to one of the guys from BookXcess and his comment was, “Oooh, how about we stretch his arm out all the way up!". While I was hoping that he’d look like Superman, he became Mr. Fantastic with a cape instead and it worked out really, really well. I’m still more of a DC fanboy than a Marvel one but just shows how important it is to keep an open mind when it comes to, well... life really. . To people at home, hang in there guys. I found picking up a book the best way to pass the time and to keep my head occupied. We’ll all get through this soon. He felt unsure as he pressed one letter at a time. Soon, he let his imagination control the storyline. . Less than a month till opening day and we had to travel back and forth to the state of Johor at least once a week to complete the project. Thankfully we managed to be on time for the 3-4 hr travel from 6 am and return home by 9 pm. It was during this time where a few cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Johor. She looked into the stars, seeking knowledge. An astronomer on a voyage. . This started out as a single piece but later expanded as an entrance statement to lead people to BookXcess bookstore. This project in Johor was interesting since I didn’t expect it to be quite big. We were feeling nervous because of the scale so we needed the exact measurements to draw with. There were a few “heart attacks” during the project but thankfully nothing fatal. . Spilled . Some days it's not easy for me to post my stuff online. I get anxious and get these waves of feeling not being good enough. It can get so strong that it snuffs the joy and optimism there was in the beginning, leaving me frustrated instead. . I've always said to myself to go with the flow but it often feels like that flow keeps going in circles eventually becoming stagnant inside a glass of jar, exposed and burdened by self doubt and fear. . There's so many things I'd like to do with art and illustration and I want to do it right. So here's a piece to practice colouring, blending and painting. Book Buddies . Graphic work for the children’s section. One of the first designs to get approved. . I enjoyed doing this especially the buildings at the back. Printing wasn’t perfect but thankfully it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Something to learn for the next one. .

In between / Woman

Our graphic works needed to complement the bookstore which was designed like a maze, inviting people to wander among books.

Our challenge was to create a journey within the maze and help customers find their way through.

These two faces were placed at the cashier counters and designed to be striking for customers to know they’re in the main service area.

Conceptually, it is where they wake up from the dream as they end their journey through the maze.
