Taejin Mission 23: Guard Duty
“Monsters are like all animals,” Prompto said with a shrug. “They learn from mistakes. Something hurts ‘em, they don’t chase after it again. This’ll be enough, really.”
Truth was, Prompto hated violence. It was why he chose the Saboteur role. He didn’t seem cut out for a medic, not with his obsession with guns and his not-so-gentle fingers, and the Saboteur role seemed the least violent of them all. He was okay with shooting a target if he had to, but most times he preferred not to.
“Besides, these tranquilizers are my weapon. I’ve got different kinds—some that weaken monsters, others than inject poison, that sort of thing. I didn’t really understand that magic thing, so I use these to fulfill my role duties.”
Only then did Prompto realize he hadn’t answered Yuj properly. He gave a laugh, then shrugged. “If they come, take ‘em out. What other strategy is there? I guess we could kill off every monster in the entire Gran Pulse, if we were feeling ambitious…”
Prompto honestly began to wonder if Yuj would actually do that.
"Tranquilizers are your... Weapon?" He didn't understand how someone could use something like this as a weapon. Better to kill off the enemy, or at least he believed. Yuj didn't want to offend Prompto anymore so he decided on agreeing. "Yeah I get what you mean." He looked down.
"Kill every monster in the Gran Pulse? Sounds like a bonding thing." He laughed. "But no, thats just too much work." He yawned and stretched his arms out. "See just talking about it gets me all tired."
Yuj stared off at the outlaying lands. "How long do you till it'll take til something comes by?" He wiggled his fingers and reached into his bag, taking out a sandwich he had prepared to himself. Yuj began eating it and sat down. "Cause I got some stuff I have to do and those stupid monsters better not ruin it." He glared up at Prompto rather childishly.
Friendly Fire | Cloud and Yuj
This guy is over the top laid back with this situation, or is he just like that cause he expected me to get him new shoes?, Cloud asked himself while looking at the other with an odd face. He looked at the bags that were just handed to him and looked back the other once again with a confused face and annoyed at the same time. I can’t get mad, it was my fault for letting the damn Mimi burn his shoe, IT WAS ALL HIS FAULT WHY ME!, he yelled in his head.
Cloud then looked down at his Spook, “you’re just trouble you know that?” he said to the devilish creature and began to follow the odd man. “Just so you know, it may have been my Spook’s fault that your shoes are burnt, but this doesn’t mean I’m buying you more expensive ones” he told the other. I already brought only a little extra just incase I needed more food, Cloud told himself as he looked at his own bag. His attention was then brought back to the sound of a woman yelling back from the store he left. He kept hearing the words “Thief” and he noticed she was pointing at him.
His eyes went bag towards his own bag and then they widened and looked back at the woman. Oh great! I left without paying for my stuff, this is beginning to be a very bad day for me, he said in his head as he jogged back towards her. “I deeply apologize” he told the lady and explained his reason for not paying and then gave her the money before running back towards the other man. He saw his Spook hopping towards him as he ran and he grabbed the creature and put him in his bag. Cloud then sped up a bit to catch up.
“Ok, like I was saying, nothing expensive just something to be able and replace these shoes that were destroyed, I don’t have all day to spend here” Cloud said as he remembered the way he left his house, in smokes. WHERE IS ZACK WHEN YOU NEED HIM?, Cloud asked himself admitting he could use some help right now. He then quickly noticed some regular shoes on the side and picked them up, “Hey these are good, right? Ok, I’ll go buy them” he said in a hurry without getting an answer. Cloud then began walking towards the vendor.
Yuj rolled his eyes at Cloud and continued walking. He turned around when he heard a woman shout. The next thing he saw was Cloud running up to the woman and saying something he couldn't quite hear. He held back a laugh and kept walking toward the store and look around the shoes.
When Cloud came back he seemed out of breath. He reminded Yuj of a mother with a toddler and couldn't help but laugh at the mental picture. "Yes of course, Mister Prude. I assumed so." Yuj would be glad to just have shoes instead of walking home barefoot but when he saw Cloud pick up the ugliest brown shoes he scowled. "Right, sure, thanks blondie, for getting me the ugliest shoes in the store. They're so out of seasons and that style is terrible." He argued to himself before going up to Cloud as he payed. "Whats with you?" He asked. Cloud seemed to be in a extreme hurry.
Friendly Fire | Cloud and Yuj
Cloud watched the other’s reaction, and was a bit surprised that he didn’t go straight for the Spook after taking off the shoe. He then looked at the Spook for a second “You’re lucky you’re still alive, you know that?” he said to the other in a half serious half joking tone and then faced the man once more. Uhhh so he’s just going to throw both shoes away? He doesn’t care at all?!, he thought to himself shocked at how the other wasn’t mad at all.
He then heard the other and how he was claiming that Cloud now owes him new shoes. “You seem a tad too relax, especially after your shoe was just burnt” he told the other while giving a confused look. “Umm sure, I guess I do owe you a pair of new shoes” he told the other and at the same time he flicked the Spook as a sign of what he caused. The Spook lit Cloud’s finger on fire as payback and Cloud dropped everything suddenly turning around to face the little devil.
Cloud then dropped knees to the floor he quickly cast water with one hand on the other, the flame was gone and luckily the Fire spell the creature cast was weak, it must’ve been playing around once again. He then faced the Spook and it was dancing all happy, Cloud then jumped towards the evil little thing and grabbed it. “Do you want to kill me?!” he yelled at it as he grabbed it and got up. He then faced the other, “I’m sorry I recently just took it in, it’s still a bit wild and stuff” he explained to the other. “Umm I don’t think I said my name, I’m Cloud and you?” he asked curious in knowing the name of the person he now owed shoes to.
Yuj was confused and rubbed his head. "Uh..." He trailed off not sure of what to exactly make of this guy. He turned down at the Spook and smiled. "You want me to be mad at that thing? It probably just wanted to start something. Or would you rather have me mad? And i'll do that." He chuckled slightly. Yuj was never one to take things exactly serious.
"Mind getting the shoes now? I'd rather not have to walk home barefoot." He grumbled and looked down at his feet. "It's just shoes, Its not like the thing hurt me." He added quickly. In reality he got those shoes as a present for joining the army but what happened, happened and he didn't see the need to get upset over them.
He smiled slightly as he saw him flick the Spook and burst out laughing when the Spook lit his fingers on fire. "Nice pet you got there." He was on the verge of tears before calming down. He gave a chuckle and crossed his arms. "Cloud? Hmm you look more like... Uh. Forget it." He remembered that there were some who would get insulted to his nicknames. "My name is Yuj." He grinned.
"So yeah, lets get my shoes the ground is killing me. There's a store five minutes or so from here." He shoved his groceries into Cloud's arms and walking in the direction of the store.
Friendly Fire | Cloud and Yuj
After a couple of missions already done Cloud was able to return home and rest for a while. When he arrived home another small mission awaited him, he was greeted by his once threatening Spook when he walked inside, it was a bit odd. He was just running around and smoke was all over the ceiling. Cloud was surprised at first because he had forgotten all about his pet, it must have gotten food somehow to survive or it could be starving to death.
“What the hell happened here?!” Cloud said in a loud tone as he began to open the windows and let all the smoke out. He obviously knew that the Spook wasn’t feeling well. As soon as he was done getting the smoke out he began walking towards the Spook and grabbed it. It didn’t resist nor did it try to run away, and then Cloud made his way out the door. “Let’s go get some stuff for you and the house” he told the creature as he walked out the door. Cloud didn’t bother checking the results of whatever damage the Spook may have left to prevent any more that it could cause.
They both made their way to the village and headed to the nearest store that had food. Cloud noticed many different foods in one and decided to enter, he then walked up towards the fruit section and decided to let the Spook down so he could grab some stuff. “Don’t move, just follow me and don’t burn this place down” he told the Spook while giving it a serious look to try and make sure his message was understood.
Cloud then faced the fruits and began taking some and putting them in a basket. Meanwhile, the Spook was following until a smell of some sweets caught its attention and he followed the smell. It left Cloud’s side and arrived to the source, it was quick on its feet to grab a bite of a sweet piece of a cinnamon bun, then it hoped away slowly. Cloud still walking around and getting more food did not bother looking back as he expected the creature to still be following him.
The Spook then returned to where it last saw Cloud, but didn’t find him there. It looked back, forward, left, and right but there was no sign of him. He then noticed an odd person with blue hair. It caught the Spook’s attention and it began to hop towards him. When it made it towards the guy, it looked up at him and back down to his feet, the Spook then suddenly let out a small flame on the guy’s shoes and stood there. Cloud in the meantime was finished with his search for food and ready to go and pay until he noticed ahead that his Spook was next to a strange guy and smoke was rising near the Spook.
Cloud then walked faster towards the creature and placed it in his basket. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, you can’t just start a fire like that whenever you want” it told the creature in a low but threatening voice. Oh………… wait that guy’s show is still on fire …………. I CAN’T JUST CAST WATER ON HIS SHOE WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH WATER WILL ACTUALLY GO OFF, Cloud said in his head a bit nervous. He then slowly lifted his head to face the man, feeling bad about what just happened.
It was a new day and for Yuj that meant he arrived home. With a grin plastered on his face Yuj walked into his apartment and threw his stuff on a nearby table before throwing himself on his bed. He closed his eyes and snuggled into his pillow.
Yuj himself lived almost on the outskirts of town in one of the more dangerous areas but he didn't mind. He lived in a studio apartment and its just enough space. Because he lived so far away Yuj stayed at the base most of the times but he knew he wouldn't be assigned another mission for at least a couple days so he took this as a chance to head home. Yuj was lost in thought when his stomach grumbled. He got himself up and changed into more comfortable clothing, then headed over to the fridge. Opening it, it was lacking vegetables. "Are you serious? But I wanted stir fry!" He pouted but decided to make his way to go buy some
After eating Yuj realized he would need to go get more food. Putting on some shoes he walked towards the market place.
Once Yuj arrived at the market he bought a couple carrots, radishes, broccoli, and cauliflower. Yuj left the market and stayed by a couple window displays when he heard foot steps and saw a Spook. "What are you doing here little guy?" He asked but the only reply he got was his shoe lit on fire. "UH?!" He exclaimed in shock. Yuj didn't notice the blonde guy talking to the Spook, he was too busy worrying about his shoe. Yuj began to kick the ground and saw it was futile. He slipped his shoe off forcefully. At least he wouldn't get burnt this way. The only problem was the shoe was still on fire. He saw an aqueduct and handed his food to the blonde. "Here." before picking up his shoe, slightly burning his hand and dropping it by the side of the aqueduct and using his hands to hold water and dump them on his shoe. Finally the fire stopped but his shoe wasn't even wearable. He looked at his shoe sadly but shrugged and took his other shoe off before throwing them away. He made his way back to the blonde, barefoot at that. He reached his hand out silently asking for his food back and shot a glare at the Spook. The Spook shuffled a bit and he let his glare soften and then turn into a small smile. He pet the Spook and laughed. "It looks like someone owes me some new shoes." he shot the blonde a smirk.
Serene Festivities | Squall and Yuj
Apparently the day of the festival had arrived. Everyone had left and Yuj could hear the noise of the festival from his room. "Why don't you all just shut up? Can't someone just shoot you all?!" He glared at his window. Yuj loved festivals, at least he did. Back when the festival was held he'd always attend with his friends but now, being separated from them he didn't have a reason for going.
Fireworks began to erupt and Yuj sighed.
Yuj stood up and decided to walk around the festival.
Yuj spent less than ten minutes there. "That festival was hell." He shoved his hands in his pockets and continued on. Pulling a smoke out of pocket he lit it and rolled his eyes. There was a lake near by and it seemed to be quiet. It was far enough he opted. Once he made it there he took off his shoes and sat at the edge of the lake, unknowing of the man behind him.
Senseless Training | Basch & Yuj
Basch picked up the Carbine and put the butt onto his shoulder, mirroring the way he saw Yuj do so before he interrupted him. “Carbine hmm? I’ve never held a gun actually Yuj. They were frowned upon where I lived, seen as a ‘less honourable’ way of hunting.” Swapping the weapon over to his off hand, he returned it to his side and pulled the Chaos Sword from it’s sheathe on his belt. “This is the way I was trained, although not with this weapon.” He performed a few feints and parries against an invisible foe to demonstrate. “I was originally trained with an axe… This was my brother’s sword.”
Returning the sword to it’s sheathe, he walked over to Yuj and handed him the Carbine, “In truth, I hadn’t seen a gun until I came here… They’ve interested me though. I’m proficient in most weapons, because of how I grew up. I needed to be able to adapt quickly in case I had to.” With a smile, he said “Why… you want to give me a lesson?”
"Eh, Melee isn't really my style. I guess I like to do things the 'less honorable' way." Yuj chuckled slightly. He watched as Basch looked over the weapon. He looked extremely interested in it and that sparked Yuj's kindness. Back when he was younger a group of his friends were first starting to fight an elder, who wasn't exactly that old at most 25 showed them how to use a gun. Yuj was his star pupil and he was always taught to share what he had learned with the other students.
"Mmm, i'm not exactly the best teacher but hell why not?" He took the Carbine that was handed to him and got in the correct stance but before firing he stopped and looked at Basch. "Maybe we should find another place to do this." He rubbed his neck. "Don't wanna worry another gramps off in this place."
Lonesome Venture | Yuj and Hope
The gunfire had Hope jumping in surprise, and it took a moment for Hope to realize it had merely been Yuj — and hopefully, not some unwanted intruder.
“Yuj?” he called, turning to where the gunshot had been. He began to wander over, moving slowly as he kept alert. There was still a high chance he really was in the company of some stranger, and he didn’t want to be caught off guard.
As he drew nearer, and as he thought he saw the unusually blue hair of the other man, he heard a rustling yet again. He turned and assumed a battle stance, but not before a gentle meowing filled the air.
A kitten? All the way out here? Puzzled, Hope bent over and picked it up, cradling it in his arms before returning to Yuj.
Yuj stared at Hope as he made his way back. He seemed to holding something in his arms. What'd he find? Curiosity was getting to him.
When Hope finally came back Yuj decided to man up and apologize. "Hey, I'm sorry for being a brat I mean I-." Yuj was cut off by a meow and he looked at the kitten in Hope's arms and grinned. "Can I hold him?!" He asked but took the kitten from Hope's arms and began to cradle it himself. "Hope, look at it! Its so cute!" Yuj was petting the kitten softly. "I'm gonna name you..." He stopped and thought of names for a moment. "Kai!"
Yuj went back into his corner and held the kitten close to him. "You're so adorable! Yes you are! Oh yes you are!" He cooed over the little kitten.
Lonesome Venture | Yuj and Hope
Hope must’ve been standing in the dark for minutes on end. He knew something was there, but he couldn’t tell what. He could hear footfalls, but not many. He could hear breathing, but it was composed. It was almost as if…
No. Why would they be joined by another person?
Hope knew it wasn’t Yuj. At least, not unless Yuj knew of some underground path that took him past Hope without him noticing. But then…
“Yuj?” he called to the darkness, though he was met with silence. “I know someone’s out there. Show yourself!” Hope waited with bated breath for the person to reveal himself, but still no one emerged from the darkness.
Was he just imagining it…?
Yuj stared off at Hope and heard him calling around. He didn't want to scare the guy or anything. He knew letting Hope off on his own would be a bad idea. Clutching the rifle in his hand, he fired it up towards the sky trying to get Hope's attention.
"Hey-y!" He called out.
"I'm over here! Hope!" Yuj yelled out, warning Hope.
"Hope- you should come back, i'm sorry..." He looked down as he said this but he knew Hope was too far to hear him.
Senseless Training | Basch & Yuj
Sighing and rubbing his eyes, Basch shrugged and said “I heard it, so that means other people can probably hear it.” He was rather irritable, and wasn’t in the mood to screw around. “Dunno where you came from, but you should probably respect your elders… I came here to investigate, I thought one of the Night Patrol found something. You can never be too careful”
The teenager just stared at him. Basch sighed again and just said “Look kid, sorry to interrupt your training, I just wanted to make sure everything was okay.” Turning around, he noticed the Carbine nearby. Moving towards it, he said “My name’s Basch, by the way… You’ve got a bit of a collection here.”
"I came from a place where there isn't any elders." He glared at the ground but let his gaze soften before looking back at him. "Listen, I dunno, I was tired. I can't sleep, so I thought i'd come and shoot... I thought I was far away but I guess I wasn't." Yuj held his hands up. "I surrender okay? I'll go back to my room and pace around again." Yuj was about to continue ranting when something caught his attention. A collection? He could feel a grin coming on.
With enthusiasm in his eyes Yuj looked up at Basch. "You interested in these?" Maybe he would a make a friend today or at least someone who didn't hate his guts. "Thats a Carbine, its a long arm so I don't really use it in combat, kinda slow and out-dated but I still love it nonetheless." He exclaimed. "Oh yeah! My name is Yuj." He added with a smile. For the first time since he joined the army he was happy.
Senseless Training | Basch & Yuj
Basch was feeling restless tonight. Leaning against a wall, he contemplated going to the tavern or just retiring to his room to clean his weapons and armour. That was when he heard a CRACK in the distance. Hmm. Who the hell is shooting at this time of night? Pushing himself up off the wall, he sighed and went to investigate.
Basch hadn’t seen firearms until he came to Oerba, they were frowned upon in his village, seen to be less a honorable way of hunting, but they had interested him since he joined the Army. Being a weapons master, he liked to know how to handle every type of weapon if he needed to improvise in a battle, but a firearm completely evaded him.
Following the sound, he arrived to find a blue haired teenager firing a rifle at targets. Waiting till he was done, he walked up behind him and said “Hey kid, do you mind keeping it down? Some people are trying to sleep, and I’m sure the sound of gunfire might unsettle some of the villagers.
Yuj was getting in the zone when out of no where some guy came by to stop him. No one was going to hear him, he was far away. At least sorta. Yuj rolled his eyes and continued shooting another round. Maybe this guy was like a bear? If you ignore them they'll ignore you? Or was it play dead and they'll leave?
"Calm down, we're far away. Its not gonna bother anyone, promise." He groaned out. It was pretty late and what was someone like gramps doing awake? "Ayo, why are you even here brah?" He questioned. "Its like late..." He added shortly after. Putting his weapon down he crossed his arms and looked over at Basch.

“That’d be too easy, though,” said Prompto with a slight smile. “Besides, monsters have this cool ability where they never stop appearing. I think it’s to spite us soldiers.”
He pointed at a small pack of wolves in the distance. They weren’t nearing the village necessarily, but they appeared to be ganging up on another inferior wolf species. “Maybe they’ll just kill themselves off? Or do you think they’ll come to us as a second course?”
With this suggestion, Prompto pulled out his dual pistols. It supported Yuj’s claims, anyway. “I guess Saboteurs think alike,” he said. He began to load the tranquilizers into his gun—not the typical bullet, he was sure Yuj would notice. It also didn’t help he was putting on a bit of a show.
He took pride in his guns. What else could he say?
"I guess you have a point there." Yuj nodded in agreement. "I suppose they'll kill the others and then come to us. Seems only logical I guess." Yuj chuckled a bit but stopped when he saw Prompto pull out his gun and load in the bullets. The first thing that caught his eyes were the bullets. "Not going for the kill I see." He raised an eyebrow.
"Shouldn't we just kill them right away? Whats gonna happen when they wear off?" He questioned. "Unless those aren't going to wear off." Yuj wasn't exactly sure what the tranquilizers were going to do but either way he reached for his rifled and aimed it at the wolves waiting to see what they decided on doing. "By the way should we pick a tactic, should an oncoming attack come about?"
Senseless Training | Basch & Yuj
After getting back to the base from making his rounds Yuj decided to have a "lazy" day. He spent all the afternoon lounging around in his room doing some odds and ends. Most of which were simply laying there, staring at the ceiling. Yuj lost track of time but it was night now and Yuj decided to go off to sleep.
Twenty minutes later full of tossing and turning, Yuj sat up angrily. "Ugh! Why now? Honestly does nothing go right in this place?" He said thinking back to his prior days here. Yuj groaned out once more and looked around. His room had clothes piled up at on his dresser, his desk messy with reports and sketch books. His eyes stopped scanning the room when they saw his rifles. Yuj had multiple firearms in his room. He had four standard rifles that he normally used, a machine gun, two assault rifles, and a carbine. He had all of guns hidden. He loved his firearms but having them all laying out just like that.
Sighing to himself, Yuj stood up and stretched. "Might as well just go off now I guess..." He went up a picked out the first shirt an pants he found. Yuj got the key that he hid under his mattress and opened the bottom drawer of his desk. This was where he had all his weapons. Call him delusional but Yuj didn't exactly trust anyone. Looking over the weapons he picked out a rifle and his carbine he also got a couple target rings.
After getting his weapons Yuj made his way over to the so called training room was. He opened the door and scowled. "This isn't a training room what the- ugh just what is up with this place." He exclaimed loudly and made his way out of the base.
When Yuj was far out enough were he thought he wouldn't disturb those lucky souls that actually made it to sleep he spread the target rings out. Yuj stuck the first one onto a tree, the other one hanging from a branch, and another one on a rock. Getting into position, Yuj using his rifle began to shoot at the target on the tree hitting the bullseye every time.

“No idea,” Prompto said with a shrug. He was still banking on the possibility they wouldn’t have to fight at all. Violence wasn’t really his thing, especially if it wasn’t necessary.
And yet, Prompto the Marksman Saboteur…
“I’m sure the monsters are out there somewhere, conspiring when they’ll coordinate their attacks.” As he jokingly said this, he turned to Yuj’s rifles. They appeared standard rifles: nothing to boast over, but still capable in getting the job done.
“Do they got a name?” he asked, without any indication as to what exactly to which he was referring. Prompto thought it was obvious, but then again his perspective was slightly skewed…
"Those things are going to come out sooner or later, in there nature. It'd be best if they come out, we can take care of them, you know?" If the monsters came out now, Prompto and him could easily take them out. If they decided to come out later when they weren't there people in the village would have a hard time.
The question echoed in his head. There was only one thing he could have been referring to. Yuj held up a rifle and shrugged. "Not really... I've had these since I can remember. They used to belong to my mentor. They're nothing special but I like them. Better something like this than a over sized gun that'd just slow me down. Plus being a Saboteur and yeah." He finished thinking it was enough to explain.
Taejin Mission 23: Guard Duty
Prompto sighed. This guy really was taking everything he was saying to the word. At any rate, Yuj no longer annoyed him as he once had, and the fleeting moment had passed.
“Hey!” he called to Yuj, and he nodded his head signalling for the blue-haired man to return. “Too far, too far. Unless you wanna go seeking out the monsters to their dens.”
They were now stationed a little ways outside the perimeter of the village. They were simply to wait it out, had it been? Prompto had a feeling luck would find a way for them to have several run-ins…
Yuj realized it was time to be serious and simply nodded. "So we wait it out now?" It was more of a statement than a question.
He dumped his bag on the ground and took out his rifles, slipping them into place beside him before leaning up against the wall. He remembered reading about a possibility of them being attacked and he knew this would happen but was it really something that bad that required them to keep guard? Maybe it was just a security thing.
"How long do you think before something comes out of no where?" Yuj closed his eyes for a second and crossed his arms.
Lonesome Venture | Yuj and Hope
Hope stared. Now what was his reason for staying behind? Honestly, if he kept this up… Yuj was bringing out a side to Hope he didn’t know he had. Hope didn’t know he could be so… annoyed over someone. (Okay, there was that one time with Squall, but that had been entirely different in itself.) It was like Yuj was everything he was taught not to be. He didn’t intend to be so uncharacteristically unfriendly toward him (okay, maybe the one insult had been an intended low blow), but Yuj just… didn’t settle with him, pulled his strings in ways he should not have been stretched.
“Thanks,” he said, holding up the batteries. “I’ll be seeing you, I guess.” Not really wanting to make relations any worse than they already were (and sadly, this was the first time in which Hope found himself not caring to be on someone’s bad side, mostly because he couldn’t be bothered to figure out how to make it better), Hope pocketed the batteries, procuring a fireball for his own usage and neglecting the torch Yuj had intended the batteries to be used for.
He didn’t manage very far though. A sudden movement in the distance and a shadow, and Hope’s instincts told him to put out the fire, so he did. He wondered if Yuj could notice the sudden lack of light, or if he even cared. He stood guardedly, Lightning’s training coming into play as he sensed for movement in an environment he could not see.
Yuj wasn't as easy going as he let others believe. He knew when it was time to play and time to be serious. Of course he understood how others could be concerned over him wither they thought he was weak or up to something devious. People are normally shy around others the first time they meet but Yuj becomes more of a let me push your buttons until I make you go away from me. To most it wouldn't occur how anti social Yuj really was. If you asked him he would deny it but he knew he was setting up Hope for a really rough trip home or worse. He sent him unprepared only tossing him batteries and sending him off in a silent demand. He knew he should feel remorse but he didn't. At least not right now. Even now he could hear Hope's foot steps and could see the glare of the light. He was about to roll on his side and sleep when it all stopped all together. It took shorter than he expected. Yuj considered this place out here a home away from home. It was all perfect for him, no one around, shelter, and peace (not counting the insane amount of time he got attacked but that was all considered practice to him). Slowly Yuj eased himself up and walked quietly to the entrance. From here he could see everything pretty well. He squinted his eyes to make out the scene before him. There stood Hope and you could tell something was around him. He had two options run out and help him or go back inside and sleep. After thinking he decided to enjoy the view. "Hmmm." He hummed to himself, not caring if Hope sensed his presence or not. Yuj pulled out a cigarette and lit it before simply watching. He wasn't going to let him get killed or anything. But Hope shouldn't have left just like that. It wasn't wise. If he let his emotions get to him Hope would never get anywhere. The only place he would get is being killed in battle. In a way he was helping him or at least teaching him a lessons. This was the way he had to learn everything. "Not everything can be given to you on a silver platter." He whispered. It wasn't that he believed that Hope was spoiled, far from it but it was something he had been taught as a boy and was the reason he fought.
Yuj watched Hope and the more he looked the tighter his stomach felt. Pulling out his rifle he was ready to jump in at any moment.
Lonesome Venture | Yuj and Hope
Hopper. What was wrong with just Hope? He was more offended being purposely called a different (and wrong) name than being called the wrong name by accident. At least Yuj could’ve requested to give a nickname? He didn’t understand. His mother had always told him, “Greet everyone respectfully, no matter how cold of a greeting you may get in turn. Always introduce yourself by name. Always learn the names of those you meet. It’s the greatest respect you can give to a stranger.”
Well, that and friendship. But Hope understood the point.
He was a bit concerned for Yuj, though. He didn’t admit this out loud, though. “Well, good thing you sorted out the ammo issue. Now you’re not deadweight to me.”
If Yuj had given him an ounce more of respect, Hope may’ve reconsidered his phrasing. But it was not the case. He did not apologize, though his facial expressions did show signs of regret. Allowing the harshness in his voice to drop a bit, he looked on to the cave’s entrance.
“Till what clears out, exactly? What’s out there that’ll just magically disappear in a few hours?”
With a quirked eyebrow and a short laugh Yuj shook his head at Hope. "Now, now, don't get too hostile on me." Although the words were said through a grin he said them with venom. He didn't like being thought of as deadweight as the other had put him. "I didn't drag you out here, now did I?" He could've taken on the other Ulhan out by himself but Hope became present and helped him out. Was everyone in the army like this? If so he honestly didn't want to encounter another one. He had heard about the stereotype of these type of people. Quiet, sensitive, easily pushed around, and lacking humor. It was all too up tight up for his liking.
The more he thought of it the more it pissed him off. He didn't let this show and simply laid down. "The opening is that way." He took out some batteries and threw them over at Hope. "You'll need that. Go straight for town, i'm going to stick it out here." Yuj pulled out a sketch pad and started doodling. "Don't linger too much, those things will smell you out."
