The more I think of Astarion's love-hate relationship with heroic characters, the more I think of this quote from The Last Unicorn:
And where were you twenty years ago? Ten years ago? Where were you when I was new? When I was one of those innocent young maidens you always come to? How dare you! How dare you come to me now, when I am this!
Now I'm unwell

May 17, 2016, dawn, in KOREA
A 23-year-old woman was brutally murdered by a man whom she have never met before.
The reason he killed her is because he got ignored SOCIALLY.
He expressed his anger by killing an innocent woman randomly.
The point is that she was killed just because she is a FEMALE.
However, Korean media is not covering this crime seriously.
Because crimes similar to this happen frequently.
This is a serious female violence and a social problem.
Please mourn this woman. Please bring attention. We all have a right to live in a secure world.
Taken from Nayoung Kim:
“This is Gangnam, today. Gangnam is a bustling main street area in Seoul, South Korea, similar to Times Square in New York City. I grew up here. On the night of Tuesday, May 17, 2016, a 23-year-old woman was brutally stabbed to death with a 12-inch knife in a unisex bathroom. She had been enjoying a night out in Gangnam with her boyfriend and friends. The police arrested a 34-year-old man who confessed that he had been waiting inside the bathroom to kill any woman that walked in, because he hated women for ignoring him.
The mainstream media described this murder as a freak incident, a random killing committed by a deranged individual. Worse, many people blamed the woman for having been out drinking at night. Many others empathized with the murderer’s hurt feelings.
Feminists are naming this murder a femicide (woman killing/gender-based crime), one among too many. We recognize the connection between this woman’s murder and the murders of other women, more than a hundred women murdered by male partners every year in South Korea, hundreds of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in Canada, hundreds more violently killed in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, women who lost their lives in the Montreal Massacre, and countless others on this planet, past, present, and future.
We will remember her death. We will fight back. We will not give up.”

“The man held on charges of murdering a 23-year-old woman told the police that the crime was motivated by his hatred for women.”
more info, be carefull girls!
This is so real. I live and work here and walk on this street at least twice a day every day and have done so for more than two years. If I remember correctly a few months ago another woman was stabbed by a similar guy in this area as well.
Korea/Seoul is relatively safe in comparison to other large cities, but the population density brings in an increase in the likelihood of these kinds of people. Especially when you mix in the alcohol that is so prevalent in this area. There are so many of these unaffiliated unisex bathrooms in Gangnam, usually down a deserted, dark hallway. Please be careful as you’re walking around, especially if you are a tourist and aren’t familiar with the area.
This poor woman was just minding her business, enjoying time with her friends, and was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
How dare people blame her for being out drinking when that’s practically the unofficial and accepted pastime of of so so so so so many people. How dare people sympathize with this killer because women have ignored him. Women do not owe you anything!
This infuriates me because this was the mentality of the police when I first tried to involve them with my stalker in 2014. After he followed me home, waited outside my office building, stood outside my apartment building ringing my doorbell for more than 30 minutes, waited for me to get off work after 10 PM in empty, dark neighborhood streets, threatened to make a scene at my work, continuously for more than a month, the police had the audacity to suggest I just give him a chance because he obviously liked me very much and he looked harmless. And that maybe he wouldn’t have done these things if I hadn’t “led him on” or “been so attractive.” Are you fucking kidding me?!
The blame has nothing to do with the victim and everything to do with these offenders’ victim mentalities.
This woman could’ve been me, could’ve been you, could’ve been any one of us who walked into that bathroom, regardless of what they had been doing that night.
This reminds me of the similar situation I was in my very first weekend in Korea in 2012 when in the broad daylight while waiting outside of where inkigayo was being filmed, a man incessantly tried to get me to give him my number over and over, and increasingly getting more violent each time, to the point where the bodyguards had to stand next to me the entire time I was waiting in line and the second they left my side, the guy climbed over a fence to try to attack me. Luckily he was arrested since there were bodyguards and police right next to where I was, but I know for a fact I would have not gotten away unharmed if I was alone or it was night or if I wasn’t in front of hundreds of people. Even then, the only thing the police kept saying was, “it’s just because you’re so pretty” like it was a completely valid excuse for what had happened. Disgusted this kind of thing continues to happen over and over.
alll i feel is anger when i read all this
I feel like if you’re a female in Korea…sooner or later you or a friend will be in these kind of situations. It’s not right and makes me so angry.
I had a guy harrass and threaten me, and it was only after involving male Korean friends and changing my number that he stopped. It was one of the lowest points in my life, made worse by this asshole who felt he was entitled to something. And I was lucky because it happened in an area I lived only temporarily.
Women traveling or working in Korea - please please do not get lulled into a sense of false security. There is a reason korea has low crime rates, and it’s not because there isn’t crime.
Reblogging for the personal stories because it’s soo important that they are heard.
