John was tapping with his right foot and biting on his thumbnail. probably not consciously. Clearly frustrated considering the pace and how he tries hard to focus on the text in the book he is supposed to be reading. He had been stuck on the same page too long, either he is not reading or he has been stuck on one sentence and re-reading it. By looking at his peering eyes, wrinkled eyebrows and how he had been sighing heavy from his nose the past 21 minutes Sherlock knew it was the latter. Good.
Sherlock shifted in his seat and lifted his hands to his chin in his thinking pose, eyes locked on John who caught his gaze when he looked over in the corner of his eyes to see if he was about to leave the room. The book is just a mere distraction then out from boredom. Good.
”What?”
”Gay.”
”Sorry- what?” John closed the book he was reading without putting a bookmark where he had been interrupted. Startled. He had been right then, but Sherlock didn’t give in to the smile that threatened to give him away. Then all this would have been a waste of time and what a shame to spoil this opportunity.
”I was just thinking about every time someone mistake our… arrangement as flatmates as something more you seem to mind?
”And you don’t. I’ve also noticed.” John put the book away on the small table beside him, leaning his head on his hand. This conversation totally caught his attention. An interested smile spread on Johns lips and if Sherlock could deduce him right he would say this was Johns cocky smile, I-had-a-come-back-and-now-it-is-your-turn. Good.
”I don’t care what other people think about us or what we are, but it is fascinating how you flare up when accused for being gay.” A small smile playing on Sherlocks lips as he leans back into his armchair. Leg crossed over the other in a smooth movement.
John broke their eye contact, scratching the back of his head and finished with rubbing his cheek. Eye contact again. Good.
At this point Sherlock would have thought that John would stand up and leave, do the dished or shopping. Definitely shopping so he would have an excuse to leave the flat, but no. He was really having this conversation with John, after all these years.
”I don’t mind people being gay- if this is about you… coming out now, I’ve told you. Girlfriend, boyfriend. It’s all fine.” Something softer shows in Johns eyes, this conversation took another direction than Sherlock had planned for and it must have shown as Sherlock closed his muted mouth that had slid open to say anything, but for once had nothing come out from it. Bad timing, though John smiled at him, even let out a huffed laugh as he reached for his tea cup.
”Thank you.” The words sliped out before Sherlock could stop himself and this time it’s him who adverts his eyes. He let them rest on the fire in the hearth to make it look like he had planned to end their conversation there. But he had thought of it going another direction, the whole month he had planned for this conversation. John must know something fishy was up.
After all, he had interrupted Johns every masturbation time as part of an experiment so he would end up with a frustrated and snapping John. He had walked in on him when he showered to brush his teeth, to fix his hair or pretending to be looking for something. Making John feel like he had to walk on glas around the apartment. Even where John thought he would be safe, his own bedroom upstairs, Sherlock had walked up to to have a conversation about a case, an experiment, about Rosie. About anything to make John not feel safe to do his deed.
Not that he usually masturbate in his bedroom with Rosie in her cot in the same room Sherlock had noticed. John would feel guilty for some reason, as if he would be ashamed which Sherlock found ridiculous. Rosie was too young to remember what her dad had been doing when she was older and was too young to understand what he was doing anyways.
After all that and being frustrated to no end, because John had snapped more than once at Sherlock this month about silly things. Being out of milk, forgotten to eat, setting fire to the microwave while doing an experiment. Yet he still had this soft and understanding side of his against Sherlock. He could feel a warm feeling spread in his chest at this little gesture.
”Don’t change the subject, John.” He let his eyes slowly go back to where they had been a few minutes ago. John cough awkward in his fist and hands moved over to the small table to pick the book up once again. Dull. At least he was just ignoring the conversation and not about to run away.
Sherlock sighed and was just about to stand up when he noticed Johns face looked a bit worried.
”You okay?”
Sitting down properly again Sherlock met Johns gaze, silently and lifted his hands to thinking pose yet again. Interesting. Still in for a conversation then.
”Close your eyes.”
”Why?” The softness disappeared almost immediately as John looked baffled by the change in their conversation.
”An experiment.”
Starring at each other for almost a full minute before John let out a irritated sigh and leaned forward so he could rest his arms on his knees. Still looking at Sherlock as if to deduce what the hell he was planning, but giving up as he gave Sherlock one more cautious stare in warning before he did as he was told.
”You better not kiss me.”
Sherlock almost let out a laugh at that, it was obviously meant as a joke, but settled with a smirk as he stood up from his armchair slowly. Easy steps all the way around John as he circled his armchair to confuse him what Sherlock had in mind, even though he had to admit that John is... adorable, if he had to put apellation to it when he is trying to deduce. John is smart, much smarter than he looks or let people think of him he would rather say. People tend to be fooled by the facade of their first impression of a person and be what they associate them with.
As if he would let anyone live here in this flat with him if they weren’t extraordinary. People aren’t that clever, but as if they have ever been. God, he really do sound more like Mycroft as middle age happens to him as well.
Standing right in front of John, he can see how he moves his head to get a glimpse of where Sherlock is by his hearing. Licking his lips to moist his bottom lip. Growing nervous? No. Anxious? No... this is thrill.
As soundless as he can manage he kneel down in front of John and by Johns sudden head movement he must have caught on where Sherlock is and hawk. Not prepared for him to be this close Sherlock guess.
“You fetched something?”
This time it is indeed worry shining through in his voice, even if he looks perfectly calm. No one else would have noticed, but Sherlock isn’t anybody. He had known John for years, he knows every facial expression, every garment in Johns wardrobe, the way John only looks at him and yet...
The only thing he never can deduce about John is his remarks, how he reacts or what he will say in particular. Humans are easy to read, easy to bend and break, manipulate if you show them sentiment and yet John isn’t. He is this mystery Sherlock can’t seem to solve, but that is what is so fascinating about him, how John Watson will always be this case Sherlock Holmes never could solve.
“No.”
John seemed to be taken aback as Sherlocks voice was in front of him on an eye level if he was permitted to look. Sherlock leaned in closer. But this he could deduce exactly how it would turn out. He had to be fast, to make sure he succeeded at his first try because there would be no second chance. John wasn’t gay, he knew that. But he was certainly interested in a way Sherlock couldn’t decide in what way, the longing gazes he thought Sherlock wouldn’t notice, the way he sometimes brushed his arm against him when he had made them evening tea like this evening.
John would first jerk his eyes open, fall back in his armchair to get away and then push Sherlock to be able to get up and flee wherever came to his mind. First kitchen, but since Sherlock would still be within eyesight he would go for the stairs. Either up to lock himself in his room or down to get some fresh air.
Sherlock guessed the latter because he wouldn’t want to wake up Rosie and John had a past of running out the door when his feelings weren’t in check.
Okay, this was it. He couldn’t let John wait any longer, he had already stretched the time of what would be reasonable for John to still listen and do as he was told. Remarkable how John always would trust Sherlock.
Closing the last gap he pressed his lips against Johns and as expected his eyes flew open and jerked back in an attempt to break the kiss. Though Sherlock had deduced as much as was fast to plunge forward with John pressed against the armchair, leaving no room to escape from his lips. Hands resting on the arms of either side of the armchair, captured John to stay put. He had to say he was rather proud of himself for not allowing the kiss to break for even one second.
Oh.
He hadn’t noticed how he had placed his knee between Johns legs in the moment and without being able to look he could feel John responding to the pressure. Johns hands on top of his in a hard grip as his fight and flight mode still being activated. Lips pressed against each other as Sherlock as calm as ever is waiting for Johns breath to become normal again, take in the moment. Consider this.
Right. So in NO WAY was Sherlock acting here. This was not Sherlock acting helpless so John would think the bomb was about to go off. This was not Sherlock faking sad so that John would forgive him. This was not Sherlock being dramatic for effect.
This was Sherlock coming to terms with the fact that he returned to London to find that the man he loved chose a future with someone else.
This was Sherlock accepting the fact that he was never to have a future with John, at least not in the way he wanted.
This was Sherlock forcing himself to say it out loud, no matter how much it hurt, because HE was the one who needed to hear it, not John.

In which Martin cannot seem to hide his thirst for other MCU actors, and Andy Serkis is not far behind LOL. Also the fact that Martin tries to give a proper justification for Tony Stark to cover for his RDJ love, but Andy’s only reason is “he’s hot” 😂
I’m convinced these two weren’t in that movie to be the Tolkien/Token White Guys, or to represent the British Brigade, it was to fly this flag high 💖💜💙 lol
partly for @helplessly-johnlocked cause I couldn’t find the original video source when you asked for it a while back. The yt algorithm decided to recommend it to me randomly, AFTER I spent AGES searching for it 😑
