The Alcoholics by Jim Thompson
(Lion 127, February 1953)
LIBERTY, July 15, 1933. Prohibition would not be repealed entirety until the 21st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified in December.
Finally, a refrigerator that cares more about your lettuce's longevity than your actual life expectancy. This ad treats crisp greens like they're in intensive care, complete with "Moist 'n Fresh" life support systems.
The dramatic headshot of the lettuce at the top is giving "most wanted" poster energy, as if this particular head of romaine just survived 15 days in the wilderness. The tagline "don't be a food waster" is particularly rich coming from an era when planned obsolescence was basically a business model. Also, "Snack Pack" for your cold cuts? Because nothing says "fresh" than sealed, high-humidity deli meat purgatory.
