what inspires ur songs instrumentally?
ok! to talk about my instrumentals we have to talk about some of my favorite bands and artists. they're all a bit over the place so im going to list them all off and then kinda describe what type of music they make & what i take away from them. music is a very personal thing for me (im a music producer DUHHH) so idk if this post will make sense but im really hoping the other two will but yea. this one will def be the most all over the place
ok on to the people i listen to alot
i listen to ALOT of industrial music, it is by far my most listened to and most of the artists i listen to fall under this category. to list a few:
chemlab (favorite band oat)
snake river conspiracy theory (and mojave phone booth) (I REALLY LIKE MOJAVE PHONE BOOTH RECENTLY PLZ LISTEN)
nine inch nails but kinda only their earlier stuff
and one (more ebm less industrial but i consider them to be my gateway band into this genre)
idk im probably missing some. funnily enough, i consider industrial music having the biggest influence on my lyrics but we will talk about that when we get there. alot of the musical takeaway i get from industrial is that very raw, unpolished, terrible earsplitting sound. alot of these bands recorded on analog equipment back in the 90s in the terrible depths of random garages, and i've always been drawn to music that doesn't sound "as produced" (its why i don't really care for modern rock and such). you may have noticed me settle into it more because (lore drop) about one year ago i lost a significant amount of hearing in my left ear so i kinda just decided to say fuck it and make my music loud and annoying because i wasn't ever going to be able to get it perfect anymore. alot of industrial music feels like its living, and breathing, and full of terrible indescribable emotions in the instrumentals so i try to channel that alot in my percussions and sfx. you may notice that i am a complete digital producer though, so alot of my stuff skews more electronic than industrial.
OK lets talk about some other misc artists that i really like
magdalena bay (i saw them live in april! best experience of my life)
alot of the former industrial bands i listed are not really active anymore, so when i want my hit of modern music this is where i go. i specifically have a big admiration for lexycat, as she is a fellow queer bedroom producer, and i studied alot (ALOT) of her stuff to learn about how to sample cool things in my songs. as a result, you can actually find alot of lexycat samples in my upcoming songs WINK. pinkpantheress & magbay are guilty pleasure artists that i mix in with my regular listening. also, one time pinkpantheress said short songs are superior and i took that to heart
ok i think this is it for my instrumental inspirations... i mainly use alot of electronic industrial synths and lay on more pop-adjacent melodies
ALSO: i listen to alot of chinese vocaloid music and study how those producers write their melodies. its literally a secret trick to becoming good af at writing vocaloid music im telling you
