What to Watch While You’re Waiting for Yuri!!! on Ice to Come Back

The wait is long, but don’t you worry! I will give you some good anime to watch in the meantime lol give me your suggestions too!

1. Haikyuu!!

You’re literally living in a hole if you haven’t watched Haikyuu yet, but now you have time, don’t you? It is an amazing show - the OTPs, the characters, the storylines, the feels, you’ll love it. Plus, 3 seasons and an ongoing manga - what fun!

2. Bungou Stray Dogs

You have to watch this, guys. The story is unique, the characters are hot, there is a storyline that’ll have you hooked and Dazai is awesome. Got some strong OTPs in here too.

3. Joker Game

This is one of the newest anime in this list, and it is spectacular and mind-boggling. The characters and the stories in different episodes will have you full of feels and amazement throughout. Worth the watch.

4. 91 Days

Mafia. Hot men. Broship at its finest. What else do we need? It has feels, excitement, anticipation, and everything you need in a short anime. Good watch.

5. Kuzu no Honkai

If you’re looking for something along the lines of mature, watch this. The story and the characters are angsty and the manga, in my opinion, is even better at it. It’s a good watch. Some people don’t like it, but I think it’s worth a try.

6. ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-Ka

I’m not done with this anime yet, but I am very intrigued up to the point that I have watched. The art is very different, Jean Otus is hot, and the concept seems worth watching too.

What I Read This Week

I’d to apologize again for not doing this last week! I was really sick and had a few exams, so I didn’t have a lot of time to make lists!

For the Record by DasWarSchonKaputt, Not Rated, 10k Viktor Nikiforov, sports journalist and retired figure skater, interviews Olympic Champion Yuuri Katsuki for an exclusive piece. So, so, so amazing. I am truly speechless after reading this, it’s incredible. In my top 10.

Just Hold On (We’re Going Home) by kiaronna, Mature, 23k Where Yuuri remembers the banquet, Viktor forgets, and Yakov Feltsman has his own plans. SO AMAZING!! You have to read this!

Sugar High by arekushia, ryoseirui, Explicit, 38k (WIP) Yuuri Katsuki is a college student struggling to pay rent, tuition, and just about everything else. When he sets up an account for a sugar daddy dating app, he doesn’t expect anything to come out of it. Instead, he meets Victor Nikiforov, and so begins their walk on the fine line between their physical relationship and something more. Just updated!! One of my favourite sugar daddy fics!

Once You Go Greek by Defiant-Dreams (baterina_1234), Mature, 16k (WIP) A fraternity fic wherein Yuuri and Viktor are in rival frats, but they fall in love anyway. Oh man, that update KILLED me!! I LOVE this fic!

Welcome to Detroit Dental and Orthodontics by stanzas, Teen, 11k Victor stops the car, turns off the engine, and Yuri rolls out the car with the attitude of every slightly inconvenienced teenager. Yuri flips his shades up, stares in disbelief at the sign in front of the well-manicured lawn squished between two old barber shops: DETROIT DENTAL AND ORTHODONTICS. “You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” he says. LOOOOOOOOVE this fic!

Where They Are by ingthing, Explicit, 11k (WIP) They find out things about themselves and step up to each other. 🔥🔥🔥

Masquerade by Ashida, Explicit, 87k (WIP) “Just say the word.” came the whisper as Victor stepped close, behind them Yuuri was aware of guns out and at the ready, of confused men and questioned loyalties, here Victor was offering, and Yuuri was too selfish to say no. “Ok.” Yuuri smiled as this game of masquerade came to an end, what would happen now, he didn’t know, he would probably die, his family would come after him and try to put a knife in his back or a bullet between his eyes, none of it mattered, because together they would fight, and the rest of the world would finally burn. Every update of this fic kills me in the best way possible! Sexy, intense, and always riveting. Must read!

dear true love by cityboys, Teen, 72k Victor is a writer pretending to be on a break; Yuuri is a pianist pretending to not be on a break. They meet, somehow, in the backwaters of Saga Prefecture, Japan. That ending was so lovely, I really enjoyed reading this fic! One of my fave music AUs!

#Katsudamn by lucycamui, Explicit, 5.9k Victor surprises Yuuri with a trip to an adult store and gets a little more than he bargained for. Or maybe that was the plan all along. Spicy!!!

I read some great fics this week!

Of Dahlias and Deadlines by ingthing, Gen, 51k (WIP) All Victor wants is to get dahlias for Khloe and Brad’s wedding in under 24 hours. Hope comes in the form of the little family florist in his neighborhood and the quiet smiles of one Katsuki Yuuri. SO CUTE OMFGF

Butt Stuff by Plumpie, Explicit, 16k (WIP) AU in which top Japanese male figure skater Katsuki Yuuri is recovering from an invasive (and frankly, quite embarrassing) surgical procedure, and his visitation nurse turns out to be terribly, terribly attractive. If only they had met under less humiliating circumstances. I LOVE THIS FIC SO MUCH

rubato by indianchai, Not Rated, 3.4k (WIP) Yuuri is a psychology major (who happens to play the cello) that moves to Detroit in his sophomore year of college to escape his ice skating past. Through his roommate Phichit, who is in their college’s orchestra, he encounters infamous pianist of the school– an overconfident senior named Victor who refuses to be an accompanist to anyone (until, that is, he hears Yuuri play). Really good so far!

Accidental Crush by Ashida, Mature, 8.1k (WIP) A university AU in which Yuuri’s phone is plagued with spam text messages and the one time he decides to text back results in the best thing ever. LOVE!

Macaroni and Kisses by Huletty, Gen, 6k Their college is holding a contest for whoever can raise the most money for charity. The prize; a years supply of Mac and Cheese. Cue Phichit, a hungry and unstoppable force, fully prepared to exploit the campus’ love for Yuuri Katuski by opening a kissing booth for a day. Even if they don’t win, it’s worth it to see Yuuri’s face when he tells him Victor Nikiforov is in line.

The Boyfriend Experience by cryingoverspilledvodka, Explicit, 139k (WIP) Katsuki Yuuri is an accomplished escort at 23, operating under the pseudonym Eros, in Detroit. Queer Self-Presentation and Auto-Sexuality in Yuri Plisetsky’s “Welcome to the Madness”

I’m currently working on this meta. I should be working on my PhD coursework (oops, my age is showing), but I’m so inspired by Yuri’s performance and the discourse that has cropped up around it.

For context, I study feminist/gender/queer theory and performance studies. So WttM was like catnip for me. I’ve already written 1,000 words and have barely scratched the surface… so I’m going to break it up into parts. Oops! I don’t know when it will be ready to post, so follow me or keep an eye on the #yoimeta and #wttm tags. (Admittedly, I’m a bit nervous about throwing my hat into the Otayuri discourse, but I aim to make my analysis fair, balanced, and empathetic. My personal opinions aside, I follow both Otayuri and Anti-Otayuri blogs, and while I am relatively new to the YOI fandom in an active capacity, I’ve been following along for a couple of months and I’ve been involved in other fandoms with similar problems in the past. Anyway, I hope that no one will judge before reading because I think these kinds of analyses can help us to find common ground regardless of our shipping practices.) Preview under the cut:

Katsuki Yuuri is 22 and in college and disgustingly in love with Viktor Nikiforov, his boyfriend of two years.

They have a one-year-old puppy named Makkachin, whom they got from the breeder as soon as he was fully weaned.

They live together in a gorgeous 2-bedroom apartment - with huge bay windows and what is technically a guest room, but which they’ve been calling “Phichit’s room” for as long as they’ve been living there, for how often the Thai boy stays over. Sometimes, Chris stays there too, when he’s in the country, and Phichit will complain for weeks afterwards that nothing is where he left it and someone has been rummaging in his personal belongings. (Yuuri and Viktor have long since given up questioning why he even keeps his personal belongings in their guestroom).

Viktor is a successful, best-selling author who insists on travelling to the places his books are set in the interest of accuracy even when the setting has next to nothing to do with the plot, because he’s just extra like that.

Yuuri and Makkachin travel with him whenever they can, but being a college student doesn’t give you that much free time, so most often Yuuri has to stay at home, or come home early. He doesn’t mind too much. He’s never actually alone for more than a few days at a time anyways (again, Phichit crashes at their place a lot).

They’re happy and disgustingly adorable and #couplegoals for literally everyone.

And then…they break up. And neither of them will say why. All anyone knows is that it started with a tiny little argument, and spiralled quickly into something monstrous and devastating.

And within the month, Yuuri moves out of his gorgeous 2-bedroom apartment with the huge bay windows and the guest room that they used to call Phichit’s room.

He leaves behind the boyfriend he was disgustingly in love with, and the puppy that whines pitifully after him, scratching at the door and begging to be let out.

He’s done uni by then, and so is Phichit. They have nothing left to tie them to that city, and because Phichit is beautiful and perfect and a way better best friend than Yuuri deserves, he convinces Yuuri to move with him across the country, to sunny beaches and towering palms, to a place as far away from home as they can possibly get, while staying in the same country.

And Viktor? He’s left behind in a too big apartment, with a heartbroken puppy that lies listlessly on Yuuri’s side of the bed and can only fall asleep when listening to Yuuri’s breathless laughter through old vacation videos on Viktor’s laptop.

Once their lease is up, Viktor decides to move back home to Russia, to parents who hug him tightly when they see him standing miserable and tired on their doorstep, and a little brother who barely recognizes him without his ex boyfriend attached to his hip.

He keeps writing his books (tragedies now, instead of the romance his fans have grown to expect from him), even sells his movie rights to some of them, and Makkachin starts running and playing again, tongue lolling happily out of his mouth and bouncing with excitement whenever Yura mentions the beloved “w” word. These days, Viktor always takes him travelling with him, ever since Makkachin got sick with anxiety the first time Viktor left him behind at his parents’ home for a week.

And meanwhile, Yuuri learns to live with a gaping hole in his chest where his heart used to be, so painful some days he can barely breathe.

Phichit is with him every step of the way, his partner-in-crime, his brother in all but blood, his platonic soulmate. (It’s a warm and sticky summer night when they lie on a sandy beach and listen to the waves lapping quietly at their bare toes, and they promise each other that if neither of them are married by forty, they’ll just marry each other. It’s not exactly what Yuuri had wanted from his future, but it still makes him clutch at his stomach in breathless laughter when Phichit suggests it.)

Viktor had always been the author out of the two of them, the one that knew how to string words in just the right order to paint a vivid picture in the minds of his readers.

But Yuuri isn’t too bad at it himself, he thinks. He decides to give it a try.

He paints a story of a clumsy couple, charmingly naive, so in love, so perfectly imperfect. He paints a story of a couple that bickers and banters, fights and then makes up with whispered apologies and warm cuddles. He writes about a couple that fights and makes up, fights and makes up, fights and makes up until…quite suddenly…they don’t.

He writes about the couple that goes their separate ways. A couple that is too young, too inexperienced for this thing they have between them, this thing that’s so huge, so important, so beautiful, they’re both afraid to lose it, so they throw it away themselves.

And then, just because he wants to give them the one thing he’d long given up hope for, he ends their story with a question.

Katsuki Yuuri is 26, and disgustingly in love with Viktor Nikiforov, the boy he broke up with three and a half years ago.

He has a cute little 2-year-old toy poodle named Vicchan, whom his roommate, his platonic soulmate (his potential fiancé?) had given to him as a present to get over his broken heart.

They live together in a cozy little 1-bedroom apartment just ten minutes away from the beach, with a sofa-bed that their friends, Guang-Hong and Leo, like to crash on sometimes when they’re in the middle of another lovers’ quarrel.

Yuuri is a best-selling author, with his one-hit wonder, On My Love, garnering international attention and countless desperate requests for a sequel.

Yuuri likes to take Vicchan for walks along the beach early in the morning, just as the sun is beginning to peek above the horizon and paint the sky in soft pinks and dazzling oranges.

They’re taking a break one day, with Vicchan splashing in the shallows a few feet away, when Yuuri is suddenly bowled over by a whining, panting, standard sized poodle, all soft brown fur and sloppy kisses.

He can barely breathe around the desperate affection, and not even Vicchan’s excited, curious yapping is enough to distract the ecstatic giant furball from his reunion with his long-lost and sorely missed human.

As soon as Yuuri can breathe again, fingers curled into his beautiful older puppy’s fur, he looks up, and his heart clenches at the sight of the Russian man standing a few feet away, a familiar paperback clutched to his chest with white-knuckled hands.

He still wears his heart on his sleeve.

A question tumbles out of his mouth.

And in that moment, Yuuri knows to start his next book with an answer.
