i need this song tattooed on my soul
I cannot explain my love of this song fully.
it's beautiful–composed in 2003 as a protest to the Iraq Wars, it's mean to show the heartbreak of humanity and every time i listen to it I am reminded of how powerful I can be.
It's protest music without words, and when you listen to it you can feel it.
The music video was done in 2018.
The song is featured in multiple films and tv shows: Arrival (2016), Shutter Island (2010), The Last of Us (2023) and Handmaid's Tale.
Each time that it is used, it invokes a different feeling.
In Shutter Island it's mystery. In Arrival it's longing. In The Last of Us it is heartbreak. In The Handmaid's Tale it is anger.
I think if I could tattoo this on my soul I would.
What if I packed up my things and left to a place where it’s just me?
not a single city soul would know me,
so not a single city soul could hurt me,
then maybe,
I can finally heal—
breathe.
