BAKUGO IS THE FIRST PERSON IZUKU SAVES. And im not just talking about the river scene. Izuku knew from the start that Bakugo had insecurities that clouded his judgement therefore he stood by his side intent on saving him from himself. Without Izuku, Bakugo’s character development would have fell flat and vice versa. Izuku has always had the mindset of a hero. He even tries to save the villains he fights. So how can one possibly think that he wouldn’t try to save the one person he’s admired all his life. That is why bakugo’s character development is centered so heavily in the story. Not just cause he’s Izukus main rival, but because he is the first person Izuku reaches his hand to. That’s what makes it all the more important that the story ends with Bakugo reaching out his hand to Izuku instead. Izuku started as his hero and it took Bakugo time to realize that. When he did he was intent on paying him back with his life. Their story isnt like other shounens where the victims beats the bully. It would be damaging to Izukus own character if his intention was to beat Bakugo but not to save him. Their story centered on change and pushing each other to their highest potential.
