hi, i feel like i make a lot of these, huh? i want to apologize for my lack of activity (again). since classes started up, i haven’t been feeling in a writing mood. because of this, i’ve decided to go on a hiatus for two weeks, though i’ll still do some writing and messaging with people!

i reblogged the winter meme (a little late, admittedly) so i’m hoping that will get me back in the loop! i’ll go through whoever reblogged to send stuff out after i post this note. 

in the mean time, since i feel a little awkward responding to ims that are a week or more old... please like this post if i can come to you for plotting.

There’s a false perception that Mieun’s days are full of routine. Maybe it’s her prim appearance and well-to-do attitude, but inside lay a restless spirit with spontaneous desires. She’s never quite in the same place the same days at the same time. ( Save for the shrine, of course. )

However, there is one part of her day that has remained consistent: the exchange of food between herself and Kim Hyunsoo. Breaking the tradition they developed since childhood was a rare occurrence, and if one happened to leave early or wake up late, they would open the door to a small box. Mieun expected to do so as she stepped outside.

There was nothing.

Mieun frowns, allowing the disappointment to hang over her head like a little cloud as she makes her way into town. She peers around for her friend. Though, the blatant examination of the farmer’s market crowd earns her a few odd stares. “Excuse me.” Once she finds a face she recognizes, a neighbor from their street, she approaches the elderly woman with questions on the tip of her tongue. “Have you happened to see Hyunsoo leave today? I haven’t seen any signs of his usual…-”

The woman shrugs, making an offhand comment that, perhaps, he might have fallen ill. As of late, the weather took no prisoners.

Naturally, Mieun feels a twinge of guilt in her stomach as she makes her trek back to her own home, then to Hyunsoo’s. There’s an odd stillness in the air around his doorway. How could she have neglected the thought he might be sick? Foolish.

So, she knocks on his door, supplies grasped in her other hand.

it’s an overnight thing where, one minute, hyunsoo is jogging through the streets of yangwon with the sunset as his backdrop and the wind as his companion, and he feels perfectly fine. the weather is chillier than usual, but after living his entire 23 years in this region, it doesn’t bother him as much as it would for a newer resident. he thinks nothing of it, and bears the winter breeze in his track pants and pullover.

reality only hits the next morning, when his body feels too heavy to move and his throat is too sore to swallow. without the strength to even lift his head, he forgoes attending his classes for the day and burrows under his blanket for some well-needed rest.

hyunsoo doesn’t know how much time has passed since he last tuned into his surroundings. he comes around slowly, blinking the sleep from his eyes but making no move to actually get up. it’s then that he hears the faint knocking on his door. “mom!” he calls out, expecting someone to answer it, before realizing that it’s a weekday, and every member of the household is out doing something except for him.

hyunsoo considers ignoring whoever it is that is waiting for the kims, but then he feels bad that someone is out on their doorstep, waiting in the same winter air that has made him into his phlegm-filled being. with a groan, he heaves himself out of bed and drags his feet towards the front door. it takes a few minutes, and by the time his hand is on the door handle, hyunsoo feels out of breath. he takes an extra second to compose himself as much as possible, sniffling to clear his nose and head, before swinging the door open.

shit. the last thing on his mind this morning had been the silly little tradition of lunch boxes and well wishes between childhood friends. it’s certainly not silly or little, he berates himself for the thought, as he stares down mieun’s gaze. is she mad? “mieun... hi.” he can only say two words before his throat fails him. hyunsoo turns away to cough into his pyjama shirt’s sleeve, and then he smiles weakly at the girl in front of him. “i’m so sorry for forgetting to give you a lunch box today.” hyunsoo opens the door wider and gestures for mieun to come inside with one hand—the other is gripping onto the door to hold himself up. “i’ll make it up to you, i promise! come in, i’ll make you something right now if you’re free.”

a gift to you!

while sungjae likes to think of himself as one of the most friendliest people ever, he wouldn’t deny that he had a little bit of difficulty thinking of a gift for hyunsoo. it’s not like he didn’t absolutely hate the guy, but after the constant jokes to keunsae about fried chicken? it was hard to not want to be an absolute shithead and gift him something he would hate. but, sungjae is king before he is vengeful, so he sucks up the urge to be a prankster with his gift by not getting him anything.

unfortunately, the local store was out of horse plushies and with the fact that he knew hyunsoo liked horses, he was forced to get something else. in the end, he wraps up four gifts in a box: candy, a rubber screaming chicken toy, a walkie-talkie (with sungjae having the other one), and a cow plush instead.

he tries his best with wrapping, even if it’s not the prettiest way he could’ve done it. on the day of the feast, he tries to look around for hyunsoo and pouts at the fact that he couldn’t seem to find him anywhere. however, he does spot hyunsoo’s mom and asks her to give him the gift if she sees him. before he bows to her and walks off, he takes out an envelope from his pocket and hands it to her, saying that it was for him too. in there is a letter that reads

“hi, hyung! happy winter star day hehe! i’m not the best at gift giving, so i hope you enjoy the stuff i gave you. please open the gift before you read this! walkie-talkie: i have the other half! cops use these, right? u can practice talking to me while going into action bc i have the other half nyehehe >:) cow: i hope u MOOve on w the chicken jokes @ my baby >:( candy and chicken: just to bring a smile to your face! let’s hangout more! -sungjae”

hyunsoo’s mother knocks on his door a few minutes after returning home from her visit to the store, to drop off a wrapped box and a letter, saying it was from a friend. hyunsoo is puzzled at first, before remembering how he signed up for the community secret gift exchange a few weeks ago. 

he checks the envelope addressed to him first, carefully peeling it open to read the card (when he was younger, he tore through a handmade card and made a little girl cry, so he’s more careful now). hyunsoo diligently follows the writer’s instructions on the second line, reaching for the gift box.

when he unwraps the present, hyunsoo feels like a child again. it’s a different feeling from the gifts his family give each other. most of the times, they already know what they are receiving, which takes away half the fun if you ask him. even when the gift is meant to be a surprise, hyunsoo knows that it will never be something playful, because he’s an adult now and in his parents’ eyes, he is too old for his infatuation with horses and toys.

the rubber chicken is peculiar, to say the least. it screams as soon as he grabs it, and hyunsoo, startled, chucks it across the room. “i’m sorry! i’m so sorry!” he runs to pick it up, caressing it apologetically as if it’s a real animal. he sorts through the box with his free hand (the one that’s not cradling the screaming chicken), trying to avoid staring at the candy for too long. haeil is going to kill him if he breaks their health pact, but it’s the holidays. it should be fine... right?

the cow plushie is cute, but what catches hyunsoo’s eye is the walkie talkie. he finally picks up the letter once more, reading through the full thing for the first time. it’s from sungjae. the chicken makes sense now, and hyunsoo holds it even closer to his chest (it screams again) when he thinks of keunsae, sungjae’s chicken.

he doesn’t think it will work since they live quite far away from each other, but hyunsoo tries his hand at the walkie talkie anyways. he presses a button and speaks into the receiver like he’s learned in class (though it’s probably wrong, because he kept goofing around during the lesson): “walkie check! hyunsoo for sungjae. over and out. do you copy?!”

when he doesn’t get a reply, it’s expected, so he turns to his phone instead to send a text to sungjae.

hello everyone! i just want to apologize for my lack of activity recently. with the holidays coming to an end soon, i should be on top of everything once more! that being said, i will get to my ims and write replies to threads within the next few days. thank you for being so patient with me!

also, it’s still too early to wish you all a happy new year but... here i am. happy new year! i hope you guys can accomplish all that you set out to do in 2020. ♡♡♡

run, boy, run.

[ @ywhaeil ] the first few days of his new routine were difficult. hyunsoo hadn’t woken up before sunrise on a weekend morning since… since ever, actually. he was never the type to sleep past noon, but he wasn’t the type to wake up early either. thus, it took a while to get used to it. he would press snooze on his alarm at least three times, or he would roll out of bed (quite literally—he has the bruises to prove it), and it took every ounce of energy in him to get ready for his morning runs.

but today, hyunsoo starts down the path at 8am, when the town is still asleep and the sun is just peeking above the horizon, and he only feels a little sleepy.

he must have been running for awhile before he sees a familiar figure on the same road as him. hyunsoo knows who it is immediately. their paths often converge on saturday mornings, as they’re both in a similar situation; while hyunsoo is working on improving his stamina, from what he knows through their post-run conversations, haeil is trying to become healthier. a part of hyunsoo has gotten roped into that health-kick, too, since he needs to be in good shape to join the police force after he finishes his training certificate at baeksu. and though they don’t start their runs at the same time, they somehow always end them together (or, hyunsoo waits at the end of the path since he always gets there first).

he closes the distance between them easily. hyunsoo isn’t the fastest runner, per se, but he’s been at this longer than haeil and is definitely quicker than him. he slows down when he’s closer to the younger man, enough to match haeil’s pace for just a second and yell out, “catch me if you can!” hyunsoo giggles gleefully after posing the challenge, and then he takes off once more.

[ @ywmirae​ ] the honey farm doesn’t belong to him nor his family, but with the way he treats the main house, one might think differently.

hyunsoo often shows up unannounced on the property. it happens much more often than it does with prior notice (which isn’t any better considering it rarely involves an invite), and probably much more than it should happen. sometimes, hyunsoo has shown up only to find the property owners out elsewhere, and he’s waited in the cold until someone returned. other times, he’s knocked on the main house’s door and all but dragged mirae and her furry friend out with his own two hands. he doesn’t think the bangs—minus mirae, of course—mind his intrusions, despite the strict ‘no trespassers allowed’ rule. they’ve known him and his family since long ago, and they must know hyunsoo means no ill. he just wants to see his favourite member of the bang family.

hyunsoo is fortunate today, in that he doesn’t have to wait and he doesn’t have to put his muscles to use. when he’s approaching the main house, he can discern mirae’s figure shutting the door behind her as she exits. and she’s got a leash in one hand, her pet teetering excitedly. his timing is perfect; they’re just leaving for a walk. 

“noona! noona, wait up!” hyunsoo calls out for the older girl. he picks his pace up to a jog, closing the distance between them quickly and with long strides. once by her side, hyunsoo drops to the ground. crouched in front of the dog, he pays no heed to its owner as he ruffles his ears. "hiya, chul. how's my good boy?"

unsurprisingly, he doesn’t get a response (thank the harvest goddess!) but he does get a few familiar licks, and that’s enough to make his day. finally, hyunsoo pushes himself up to regard mirae, but he lends one hand to chul the dog for further pets. “we’re going on a walk, right? what’re you waiting for? let’s go!”

hi, it’s me again! just wanted to update you guys; i’m slowly getting to my ims and replying to everyone (there’s so many of you and i love it omg). in the mean time, i’ve thought up some more possible plots since i didn’t have enough in the first place. i’ll list them below the cut, and also put them on my plots page.

diner for two || diner employee || 0/1 you work in the diner and hyunsoo is there late one night. since there’s no one else around/no other customers, he asks you to sit with him and shares his meal with you while you talk (and he promises he won’t tell your boss)

flower shower || around his age || 0/1 PENDING! hyunsoo wanted to send flowers on behalf of the kim family to your family as a ‘thank you’ for helping them out, but the florist just addressed it to you from hyunsoo and now you think he’s in love with you.

holy springs || around his age || 0/1 you join hyunsoo on a trip to the hot springs, and you’re surprised to see the amount of changes his body has gone through since joining the police cadet training program—are those abs?! all he can do is shy away from the compliments.

keep running || any age || 1/2  hyunsoo has been working to get into shape ever since joining the police cadet training program at baeksu. he’s started going on early morning or late night runs to work on his stamina. you either join him for some running company (and maybe make it a fun little competition), or you offer to buy him some food to replenish his energy.

lights out || around his age || 0/1 college kids—you can’t control them, and they’re pretty stupid. you make a bet with hyunsoo that he can’t stay all night inside the abandoned house in the woods. hyunsoo, a complete scaredy-cat, agrees only if you do it with him.

tipsy tales || 18+ || 0/1 you find hyunsoo at the local bar, ordering bottle after bottle of soju. his tolerance is quite low, so he’s already drunk by the time you get there. hyunsoo ends up spilling his innermost feelings to you before he passes out, and you have to help him home.
