I really need to get some threads going with Jaebeom, so consider this a closed starter call! If you’d like a thread with the walking-talking marshmallow respond to this post with a location listed on the main and I’ll throw something together for our muses at said location. If we’ve plotted already it’ll likely be based on that, and if not I’ll just try and improvise unless you ask for something specific.
No cap (At least for now) and open to multiples. Also, if we haven’t plotted yet and you’d like to I am always down, so just let me know and I’ll throw myself at your inbox or feel free to just pop up!
“If we get trapped, it’s my fault and I apologize.”
Unlike so many others in Yangwon, Jaebeom has no issuewith Jojamart. If anything, he rather likes it. It’s one of a tiny handful ofplaces that reminds him of home; the shelves towering above, the almost clinicalwhitewash lighting and the mountains upon mountains of products make it almost identicalto the supermarkets on the other side of the world. Perhaps it’s because he’sgrown so used to them over the years that he struggles to understand the vocalopposition. Convenience at the cost of community doesn’t sound like the worst possibleexchange.
He learned early on that such an opinion is best keptto himself. One of his elders had made that abundantly clear when they beratedhim for it, stammered apologies be damned. Even thinking back to it cause hischeeks to flare a deep red, the memory alone enough to fluster him. And so whenhe makes his trips to the store these days, to top up on supplies or simply forthe sake of nostalgia, he times it so that he doesn’t cross paths with any ofthe other residents.
It’s peaceful as he wanders down aisles, plucking boxesfrom the shelves and quietly humming along to the muzak pumped through thespeakers. The store remains largely empty, with the exceptions of a few otherregulars and the staff. Usually he remains unbothered and uninterrupted, and todayis no different, but rather than leaving him to his own devices as he reachesthe register, an overheard comment from a nearby cashier causes genuine worry.
“I’m sorry, w-why would we be trapped?” He askscautiously, eyes darting nervously towards the door. “Is there… something wrongwith the locks? Should I be feeling.... concerned?”
Jaebeom’s face knots with confusion as the other asksher question, eyes cast downwards over his hands and the exposed skin of hisarms. He sees nothing but tanned skin and the telltale signs of farm work; afew nicks and scrapes from tools he’s yet to fully master and crops seeminglydetermined to protect their harvest, but nothing of any real note and certainlynothing to worry about.
They are an unfortunate reality of this new life, andone he’s grown used to ignoring. If he were to fret over every little scratchhe’d spend more time nursing himself than in the fields. One of the benefits ofmoving had been his hardening to the elements. Nine times out of ten it doesn’teven register in his mind anymore.
As is clearly the case here. There’s no blood visibleon his person, and so he’s as much befuddled as he is concerned. Glancingbetween the woman and his arms, he opens his mouth to speak only to fumble overthe words. A hand reaches up to sweep stray hairs from his forehead, and upon it’sreturn is painted with a tiny smear of crimson and only then does he remember.
“There was, uh- There was a stray cat wandering aroundnear the stall and I was trying to find it’s owner.” He explains with a nervouschuckle. “A kid spooked him whilst I was holding him and he-“ A short sharpscratching motion punctuates the end, partially for dramatic effect. (But mostlybecause he struggles to recall the correct translation.
A slight wince as he tries to wipe it clean, the stingof contact jolting him before the story continues. “I found his owner though,so every cloud I guess…” The smile that follows is warm, grateful that someonehad even paid attention long enough to notice. He’s so used to fading into thebackground, to flying under the radar unnoticed that it genuinely catches himoff guard. “Thank you for your concern, but I’m sure it will be fine. Just needscleaning and time to heal.”
Hey cool people, your resident garbage heap of a person Alex here to apologize for my lack of activity. My wifi has been down for the last couple of days and I couldn’t remember my login details for mobile, so apologies for being so absent. I will be responding to everything in the next couple of days so please bare with me, I swear I’m not trying to be rude!!
With that said, I finally got around to finishing the bulk of Jaebeom’s pages, so if anyone is interested you can find them below! I’d love to get some stuff going with him, so if anything catches your eye please feel free to come shout at me! Also, because I wasn’t sure who was still doing them, if anyone is still in need of memes or anything let me know and I’ll throw some your way.
Hey cool people, apologies for taking so long to get this posted, work and timezones both suck, but I just wanted to throw this up to introduce myself. I’m Alex (18+ / He/Him / GMT) and I’m super excited to be here with you all! I’m going to be playing Jaebeom, a rad-but-sad marshmallow of a man with all the social skills of your average baked potato trying, and often failing, to adapt to life in Yangwon. He’s an older character that I’m pulling out of retirement because he’s one of my all time favourites to write, so I hope y’all will love him as much as I do!
All of his pages are still a work in progress, so I’ll update this post once his profile / bio / plots / etc pages are finished, but for now you can find the basics under the cut. Spoiler alert: He’s not had a particularly fun time. I’m always down for plotting and will be going through everyone’s pages soon, but if anyone is interested in working something out between our characters feel free to pop up here or on Discord (Alexmcrw#7717) or just like this post and I’ll catapult myself into your inbox!
OH and thank you to everyone that’s given me such a warm welcome! I was a little intimidated by the size of the group but y’all have really put my mind at ease and I genuinely appreciate it! If I haven’t responded yet I promise I’m not ignoring you and will try and get back to everyone tonight.
Hello farmers! The admod team wanted to throw a meme onto the dash to encourage interactions. Feel free to reblog if you would like to participate, and remember to practice good karma: send to as many people as you can if you want to receive some in return!
“Whatever you’re thinking right now, it’s not that.”
“I’m not going to ask again.”
“I’m brave when I am with you.”
“How could you not realise you’re bleeding?”
“I haven’t seen this in years!”
“Have you lost your senses?!”
“Do you think I was too hard on them?”
“What on earth are you wearing?”
“I’m not sorry.”
“If we get trapped, it’s my fault and I apologize.”
“If only the world wouldn’t get in the way.”
“I’ll let you go this one time.”
“What are you holding?!”
“Shh… Be quiet!”
“Are you still angry?”
“I’m going to need a little help here.”
“We make such a good team.”
“Do you always do what the elders say?”
“There won’t be another chance for me.”
“I will always be there for you when you need me.”
“Did I do something wrong?”
“I’m sorry, I’m not good at saying goodbye.”
“That was beautiful and very weird.”
“No offense, but that’s disgusting.”
“I dreamt that you hated me.”
“Wow, you’re terrifying.”
“As if we’d ever turn down a free dinner.”
“You okay over there? You sound like you’re dying.”

TW: bullying (mentioned), Alezheimer’s
personality.
Literally the dictionary definition of rad but sad.
Puts up a front of being super cheerful and loving life, but internally is suffocating under all of the pressure piled on him.
Unerringly positive to a fault, to the point where it could genuinely be annoying. because if he doesn’t laugh about everything he’d probably end up crying.
Often ends up crying anyway.
Uses goofy smiles and dumb jokes as a shield from serious topics
Because of his experiences during his adolescent he is super insecure about himself, and a lot of his humour is kind of self deprecating to hide that.
Constantly worried about other people’s perception of him
Constantly worried that he’ll offend someone because of his rusty Korean or not knowing the culture, or that he is a burden on others for any reason.
Just constantly worried in general.
Has a compulsive need to impress people and gain their approval, and will go to pretty much any length to ensure this
Kind of a pushover. it would take no more than fifteen seconds to convince him to agree to anything.
A whole gay. Though honestly a little nervous about it since the country is a lot ore conservative than he’s used to and he doesn’t want to draw any more attention to himself. Not exactly in the closet, but not open either.
Tired. So tired. Like all the time.
Feels like he’s been dealt kind of a bad hand in life, but rather than complaining about it just keeps his head down and carries on.
Prefers to live in the periphery, as far from the spotlight as he can get.
history.
Jaebeom was born and raised in London, and only moved away from the city a couple of years back. Both parents insisted that he learn both languages as a child, so there’s no barrier there.
Parents split up at a young age. He stayed with his mother, but stayed in contact with his father.
Always kind of a black sheep. Outcast by his peers for literally any reason they could think of.
When he was younger he assumed that he was the comedian, but as he grew up he realised that he was the punchline.
Super bullied and then super shunned.
Shrunk back into his shell and developed a tendency to self-isolate. Never really crawled back out.
Studied law not because he was passionate about it, but because his mother (A teacher) wanted him to.
Fell out of contact with his father for a few years.
Got a call from him shortly after start of his final year informing him that he had been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s
Booked a flight to Yangwon as soon as he could, and after weighing up his options decided to drop out of school and stay with his dad about a year ago.
Needless to say his family in London were not impressed and they’re not currently on speaking terms.
Also, despite the fact that he’s absolutely not cut out for it, he’s found himself taking over a majority of the responsibilities on the farm.
Did not ask for this but it’s too late to turn back now.
Does not know what the hell he’s doing. This boy should be in an office, not a field, but somebody has to keep things going.
