“Yosemite Valley”
Albert Bierstadt
(Yosemite; 19th century)
Private collection
(Yosemite was Bierstadt’s most emblematic subject after his first visit in 1863 (during the Civil War). This one and other large-scale, sublime paintings captured the valley’s splendour and beauty. Through his works he offered Northern audiences a vision of untouched, still harmony amid war’s chaos.)
Although it was pretty tough to choose just one of his breathtaking masterpieces, I can surely say that this work is among my personal favourites by Bierstadt. ^^
