#Metoo Still Making Changes
#Metoo has been one of the most vital movements, creating a social shift that we have had in social media. It made people realize how many women and men are affected by sexual assault, abuse, harassment, or worse. Before the “me too” hashtag, it seemed the public paid no heed to rampant discrimination and abuse that occurred in the workplace and social settings. The courage it took for the millions of people, primarily women, to share their stories was something the likes of social media had never seen.Â
It caused one of the most powerful men in Hollywood to be sentenced to prison for the rest of his life, which is a story we all know. But we did not see the shift it caused in the corporate world. Companies rewrote their policies and actively went after men in positions of power. Even professions like the military revamped their sexual assault, harassment, and prevention practices to protect better the people who were too scared to speak up about what happened to them. It made it events easier to report and punish those who committed these atrocities.Â
